What Do You Want To Accomplish With Your Writing?

That's the question I asked myself 2 months ago when I began my recent (and final) personal challenge: to independently publish my entire archive of creative writing and fiction.

Like so many things in life, if you want to accomplish something, a good place to start is by setting goals. A list of things that you can do, that will push you closer to the outcomes you desire.

But in order to identify what those goals are, you have to have some idea of what it is you're trying to accomplish. So I'll ask you again...

What Do YOU Want To Accomplish With Your Writing?

There are no right or wrong answers, it's entirely up to you. You don't even need to share your thought in this thread. Keep them to yourself if that helps.

Is your objective to write and independently publish a book, or a series of books, like me?

Is it to start a business of some kind? An online newspaper or blog, an editing service, copywriting service, ghost writing? Do you want to publish essays and bring awareness to the state of education in your country? Do you want to create content to promote entrepreneurialism in your community? Do you want to encourage people to eat healthier, live better, or report on local or international politics?

What do you want to do with your writing? What are you trying to achieve?

Give yourself time to think about it, then go from there.

Once you have an idea of where you'd like to go, charting your course becomes a little easier.

These days poor/broke people writes on how to become a millonaire in 1 week and same people still halk the books themselves.... Why didn't their book work for them

I plan to become a Billionaire (in dollars) from my writing. And i plan to achieve this by writing constantly. I plan to have a total of 100 books published in the next ten years...I have published 9 books so far. Have been battling severe writer's block for weeks now, and I'm definitely not finding it funny anymore. I have so many awesome story lines to build on, but my brain just lock up like a woman bearing grudges against the husband. Only thing that brings me back on track is a good book, but as I dey so, even to read don become temple run. I hope to inspire the world, stimulate and revive the daily dwindling people's appetite for reading, leave a lasting legacy with my pen and unique style of writing and and finally, self discovery. I'm not in a hurry, because I know I will get there at the appointed time

I have started already, but there's a mindset that ignites your successful and overcoming spirit. When I encounter challenges in the course of my work, I relax my mind and go easy, not desperately look for a way out like I was a drowning man, it never works for me. my project is enormous, I cannot finish it in a day. The appointed time is when I'm done publishing and the work hits the bookstores!!! The appointed time is not now.

When I write a story, I notice the protagonist and I in one way or the other portray some character traits. The problem she deals with is what I am/have been dealing with. Writing kind of helps me solve them if that makes sense

I just write cos I love doing it...no other reason.

For now. The joy and satisfaction that comes with it and maybe later in the future become an establish writer. Keeping an open mind never say never. most writers started Writing just for the love. ask Chimamanda, Helon Habila and co.

You are exaggerating though. But that's a poor or broke outlook to upcoming writers. If nobody appreciated what the other guy have to offer, value will not exchange hands and success will be impossible.

I remember when I have to do direct-marketing for my books, the kind of bland look I get from people with the opposite mindset. Not funny at all. If you are a writer, direct sales will break your zeal.

Nigerians will not help you to succeed, don't make the mistake they are dying to read from you about how to succeed, you will waste your capital and run into debts and almost lost your mind bro.

I agree there are exceptions to the rule, do book launch, or write educational stuffs and get it to list of books from ministry of education so students can demand for it. Nigerians don't read books ooo.

How many people appreciated this thread? Less than 2000 views despite making frontpage. Now where are the people? Gossip threads sells. That will tell you what awaits you as a writer in nigerian market.

Junks sells more than sensible efforts in print here. The bane of the black man is the question that I quoted: why don't you succeed or break with your book? Because the buyers have super- frustrating ego.

If they know they will help you to succeed, they will hold it, except they are not aware that's what you want to do. So, junks sells more if you are not launching or writing educational. Find a good junk to do.

Writing is not at all easy, so if you don't want your effort to be wasted

1, Don't write free stories on NL: I've read many stories on NL and the best stories don't even get to reach front page sometimes, and when it does, it still does not bring a dime to the writer. But shout out to story writers like classcaptain , I know you would be contacted for some of ur stories here on NL soon.

2, Don't publish in a hurry: Take your time to write and proof read, many stories have been stopped half way here on NL cos the writer just couldn't go on with the fiction.


3, Make a name and your book would bring profit: If let's say 2face should publish a book today, which I think he has done already, he would definitely smile to the bank, cos of the name, if 30% of his fans should read it, then it would be a monetized effort.

4, Don't self publish: Just don't try this in Nigeria brother!

I've written 3 stories which I think would be very good for screen play, but I would rather keep it to myself till its ready to come out. And I also keep my diary close to my heart, I won't mind sharing when needs be. But for now, it's a no no. Cos nobody would pay me for my stress.
