‘the New Market Is Too Far’ – Mainlanders Decry Location Of New Mile 12 Market by arlomah: 8:50am On Apr 21, 2017 |
The Akinwunmi Ambode led Lagos State Government (LASG) recently announced that it had commenced the construction of the new Mile 12 market located at Imota in Ikorodu, Lagos. LASG embarked on the construction exercise months after it earlier announced that marketers at the existing Mile 12 market, Kosofe would be relocated to a new site in Imota. When InsideMainland visited the site, construction workers were going about their activities. A worker on site who identified himself as David told our correspondent, “as you can see, work has commenced on the project. We have laid the foundation and done the necessary assessment here.” On when the new market would be ready for use, the source said “work just started and I don’t have much details on that. You can meet my ‘ogas’ at the Ministry for more comments.” Meanwhile, residents of the axis who spoke to InsideMainland expressed their fears on the location of the market. The area is majorly populated by Hausas who settled in that part of the community to breed cattles and do other forms of businesses. Before nko? Is a main market supposed to be near? Ideally, people should "travel" to such markets. 24 Likes |

Too far indeed! But it will enhance the rapid development of the new area! Also, it will help decongest mile2/ketu area and even the entire Lagos metropolis! 11 Likes |

icon8:see this man. Is a place where goods and services are exchanged supposed to be distant? Move the markets out and increase the cost of living in lagos? Something that's already high If you wanna create a company, do you place it at 50km away from people? 30 Likes 3 Shares

NevetsIbot: See this Ondo villager! Do you have any idea of what a "main market" is? Fyi, main markets are located on the outskirts, not within a city. I'm sure you've never been to Lagos, otherwise you won't condemn this move, if you've experienced the traffic nightmare caused as a result of the site of the Mile 12 market in the heart of Ikorodu-Lagos road. 16 Likes 1 Share |

junketer: Yes o. They should carry them far far, even past Alaba and badagry side sef if need be. Lagos should not be allowed to become another Onitsha or Aba where more than half of the city has been converted into markets, including areas that were originally designated as residential areas. Next to be relocated should be Computer Village coz that area wasn't meant to be for commercial purposes. 18 Likes 2 Shares |

icon8: I GUESS u dont go to d market cos if u do u wont say it shud be in d outskirt of d city, the traffic there has reduced more dan it used to be, so stop saying what u ursef dont know, relocating d market will increase the price of goods around d enivronment, things are cheap n affordable around ketu and mile 12 axis due to d market as compared to oda areas, abi na market dey cos hold up for ketu underbridge? 2 Likes |

icon8: Mile 12 use to be in the outskirts of Lagos until the rapid urban development of the entire mainland. Imota will bring succor to inhabitants of mile 12 and environs but also economic loss. The last crisis was a sort of moral justification for the relocation of that market but I can assure you the intent is just to take over that huge parcel of land for real estate development. Imota is almost one hour from Lagos. This is very unfair to lagosians. Prices of foodstuffs is going to shootup with this move. 10 Likes

prettyboi1989: The location is good. You can access Imota from Sagamu, Ijebu-ode, Epe and ikorodu. Moreover, there is a plan to dualize the road soon and it will enhance proximity to Lekki free trade zone. 7 Likes 1 Share |
