To make you ogi nutritious, add a lot of milk + fruits and veg

You can have the following combos:

1. Ogi + banana + milk
2. Ogi + peanut butter + milk
3. Ogi + potato&chicken puree ( I cook sweet or irish potatoes + chicken breast + carrot and blend all together)
4. Ogi + pureed strawberry or apple or blueberry + milk
5. Ogi + pureed carrots + milk
6. Ogi + oats + milk
7. Ogi + Fish&carrot puree + milk (boil mackerel fish + carrot and blend together)
Teeree gbosa for you! All recipe on point. #ogivoltron wink

Weldon sabi mamas, thanks for all the great tips, I have been following this thread for weeks now.
My challenge is my dd who is 10weeks now is having colic, I have heard so many remedies from gripe water, nospamin, in fact, to natural remedies like uda, ogiri etc, but I am not good in experimenting cos I am on ebf, I just use nospamin and I massage with hot water, just counting to 12 weeks for the colic to vamoose.

I see them all as placebos.

Hey babes, congrats to the twins!

Please don't use any drugs! On a lighter note, have you seen anybody without teeth? *food for thought* tongue
exactly what I used to say... that as long as I haven't seen any toothless adult , that my babies would someday teeth. Just said I should ask though. That's how they worried me to give them infacol/nospamin for colic and I didn't give and they have outgrown the colic phase.

My love and kisses to your kids.

Thanks for the reply@ liftedhands, I don't really know if the nospamin works, I only give her when she is really in discomfort just to fulfill all righteousness, but the hot water works, like this morning after whinnying all through the night, I pressed her tummy with hot water while bathing her, and she pooed very well on my body which brought relief to her.

However if all fails and he is still tugging at his hair please see you paediatrician. Kisses to baby ilan kiss

I am not sure oh
you may want to take him to a paediatric E.N.T specialist it could be that his left ear is bothering him. has he had a cold recently? usually colds have a way of affecting ears as well.

Sorry dear! kisses to him.

Hotmomma how are you doing dear?

I'd try and answer as much as I can grin

I prep my foods for the week and store in the freezer. (Pix attached) If you have good power supply you can do same..Then just put the frozen foods in a plate and cover it to take to creche..It should have melted and ready for consumption by the time he needs to eat it. They can just mix in the milk and feed.

I started feeding my LO from 6months. Initially I was making it the way Feddy described (as a porridge) but I switched to making it into swallow and feeding him with soup.
The Gerber oatmeal is a cereal that you just mix with milk. Don't limit him to just cereals, give him more of homemade nutritious foods.

No don't start with the combos. You need to gradually introduce each food to him to watch for allergy. E.g you give pureed potatoes mixed milk then you repeat again cos he might not accept the foods outrightly as he is only used to breastmilk. Then when he accepts and there's no allergic reaction, you add carrots or egg yolk. Then eventually increase the combo.

Hope you are already putting soup in his mouth with your fingers while you eat, it helps prepare thier taste buds I think. He was already struggling with me for my foods cos I make sure I carried him while eating swallow, I guess that's why it's his favorite meal. grin

A favorite and easy first meal is Amala and okro soup/ewedu with plenty crayfish. Cos he only knows how to suck now so swallowing Amala and a slimy soup might be easier than cereal.

For the milk, as long as he doesn't react to it I guess it's fine. And Feddy says it's good.

Mummy sugar, I am eyeing cool cool this your freezer oooo. I'm just jealousing you jare.

But do you live in naija or redemption camp were they have constant power supply cos these cube foods are really rock solid. I think an alternative for mamas without constant power ss is to store each feed in cereal dispenser containers or any available small containers and freeze.

Also, I read that some fruits shouldn't be stored in the fridge not to talk of freezer. Will the nutrient content of some of these fruits still be preserved if freezed?

This is a symptom of colic, my dd pulls at both sides, even sometimes scratches her face in the process especially when she is sleeping, they will eventually outgrow this stage. I am in the same dilemma with you.

I'm not sure o. If it's bothering you you might want to see his doctor to allay your fears.

My son either pulls his hair or rubs his eyes when he's sleepy but he doesn't cry too much.

Redemption camp too dey naija na grin grin grin
There are some coded places in naija with constant power supply grin Im actually currently at work and staying in company accommodation so light na 24/7. But even my house get constant power with a combo of NEPA/Inverter/generator
Good suggestion for storage without proper power supply.
I'm not quite aware of fruits that shouldn't be frozen, any examples of them?
It's definitely better to prepare each food fresh before feeding but not really practical for working moms. And I would not want my nanny spending too much time in the kitchen cooking my son a meal or even carrying him into the kitchen while cooking for fear of burns etc. But frozen is still better than the shop bought foods in bottles packed with preservatives.

I believe our kids are about the same age this same thing you are talking about was what my son did yesterday. Babies get irritable sometimes and cry more on those days. That pulling of hair is expressing annoyance they also do it when being fed expressing enjoyment. The only time i worry is if the baby is running a temperature or is refusing to eat then stooling and vomitting. If he is not doing any of the above he is okay.

See enjoyment. It is well with naija. I just came about that info on some fruits not good to be frozen when I use to make smoothies during those days i was on weight loss palava, but I think they are mostly related to fruits with high water content like water melon, but then, I also had to freeze too and take to work cos i no get choice. I concur with you o, its a good alternative for working mums who want to feed their los with healthy meals. I'm prepping myself up for the task ahead sha.

Buy all the veggies (carrots, potatoes, peas). Boil and blend then store in your freezer. Buy quarker oats, blend for her. If you can't make pap, August secrets sells very good pap.

I quoted this because i want to know how you do it after it is freeze. Do you re-cook it or microwave. Because i learnt microwave food is not good for less than 1 year.

I bring it out of the fridge and allow to melt then add it to the already made hot pap.

If I need to feed the potato+chicken puree alone, I put water in a pot and put the bowl inside to warm. When I take it out, I add my milk

Akorkor thanks o, your breast pain might be mastitis.

Massaging with warm towel, offering that breast first and pumping all the milk out would help ease it. You are probably not emptying the breast out when you feed

I dont think all of them have preservatives. Many good brands, heinz, cow&gate, ellas kitchen etc are all made without preservatives. Jar, pouch and can foods are heated to kill all bacteria and sterilize it then sealed to preserve freshness. That is why they say once opened finish within 3 days or so.

I have frozen cooked apples, kiwis and mangoes with no issues..... even Watermelon should not be an issue to freeze as well. Banana and pawpaw well are the only ones i can think of that dont freeze well in my opinion.

If one doesnt have good power supply you may just have to make the meals a couple of days in advance at the most and heat up if necessary before feeding baby.

Although if you have to provide the meals for creche....... you need to discuss what facilities they have to heat up your baby's food. If they have a steamer then you should be fine. If they are using microwave, well its your decision if you want them to use it. .

One could also include easy fruits like banana and maybe avocado that you can just peel and mash with a fork.

In place of ice trays get small bowls with a tight fitting lid. 1. So it doesnt spill if knocked over and 2. So water does not get inside if you have to dip inhot water to heat up.

Pack foods one portion per bowl to avoid excessive handling.

There is no easy solution oh jare... God help us parents make the right choices.

Sometimes one of the ducts exits in the nipples may get blocked for any number of reasons like skin just growing over it. It may form a milk blister. So even though you are feeding from that breast.. that particular duct is not releasing the milk and will cause mastitis.

Checked your nipples, you may have a blocked duct. Hand express to see if there are any ducts that dont seem to be bringing out milk it will usually coincide with the side of the breast that hurts..

If it is. In addition to warm massage, use a warm/bearably hot towel to scrub the nipple to try and remove anything that may be covering the duct.

Also apply some olive oil on a cotton wool and place over your nipple and cover with a breast pad before bathing/cleaning with hot towel. They say it helps to soften the skin.

Pele it is not a pleasant experience. I even had to use tweezer to pinch off the skin that seemed to grow over one of my ducts....

Noted alphahandmaiden. I guess the only downside to the bottled meal is the cost then. Cos one small bottle of Gerber is 500 naira... Sweet potatoes of 500 would last a week. grin

I guess that would be an ideal option for when traveling...Cos iv been thinking of how difficult it would be to carry homemade meals on long haul flights.
