Marotzke:
Weekend concord reported then that she was named Alimat. When the thing changed to Halima, they forgot to tell us.
One year later Gideon Orka,Roland Empere, Saliba Mukoro ,Ovedje Ogboru struck.
A terrified IBB abandoned his wife and young daughter and ran 440.
Colonel UK Bello died defending his boss.
It also marked the rise of Colonel Ishaya Bamaiyi. He and Abubakar Umar led battalions of loyal troops to crush the coupists.
Two years later, the panicky IBB relocated the seat of power from Dodan barracks lagos to Aso Rock Abuja.
Hmnn , how time flies.
Interesting piece of history... But why is the man feared like death... I remember the last time he came out for presidency...All corners in Owerri then were critical of him... I remember one newspaper like that Carried a quote"...IBB has murdered sleep and shall sleep no more" with a reference to SAP structural Adjustment program... The man is still a force ... see VVIPs...

Yes there was contentment and love. I miss those golden days. When our parents taught us discipline and hardwork. Children played without fear of strangers. When even strangers cared about you and you about them. Where people offered help without social media announcements, when dressing scantily was an abomination to which parents cried for days for such a child. When dying People in accident were helped to hospital immediately without selfie with a dying person in need of dire help. Sigh. Where are those sweet calm days.
I can only Imagine all these... It sounds sweet... It's isn't going to be like that again... I heard it as a story maybe witnessed part of it... That period people weren't afraid to visit their villages with fear of harm... I remembered going to various relatives houses and ate whatever was offered... But not today... you will never remain the same again... or probably last a few days after such ... I will shamefully tell the story to my children... I mustn't forget to tell them about the leaders I learnt to talk with their names how they continued in power transforming us from Democracy to "Octogenariancracy"

At an average of 100k each per cow, that is more than 10 million, not 5. The difference is the groom pay whatever he can afford. Most pay 50k for women that have never married before and less than 10k for widows or divorcees.

U EVEN TRY, I WAS PLACING D AMOUNT AT 200k PER COW.

I could forgive you all for referring to those days as sweet old days. You were all probably little kids then with no worries. May be you should ask your parents if those IBB years were sweet old days.

As a teenager and later an undergrad/graduate during the the IBB years, I could remember the following:
1) Take off of Nigerians entry into fraud at the International level
2) With my own eyes in my neighborhood drug lords and their errands became overnight celebrities and talk of the town; with local musicians shouting their names loud for us to hear.
3) Years of the wonder banks and fake finance houses (I lost few thousands to one).
4) Individuals begging me to use our landline telephone to perpetrate international fraud. That telephone line was even older than me.
5 ) Most university graduates lost 1 year due to closure as result of June 12.
6) For the first time in 1991 almighty JAMB exam got leaked, and it got worse over the years.
7) Rampant abuse and assault of civilians by military personnel.
cool Years of IBB''s and IMF SAP (Structural Adjustment Program). If you call what Nigerians are currently experiencing recession, SAP was "recession raised to power 2". At the end of the day it was all fraud.
9) $12 billion Gulf War oil windfall unaccounted for.
10) When exchange rate rose with naira losing its value several fold between 1985 when IBB came to power and early 1990"'s when the rate became $1 to N21.
11) Years of letter bombs and government sponsored assassination
12) Fraudulent elections organized with billions of Naira with no objective of returning power to civilians.
13) When our girls started their rush to Europe to prostitute themselves.... it all took off between late 80s and the early 90s.
14) Take off of "Tokunbo" car import business with vehicles fraudulently obtained n Europe by the few criminally minded Nigerians.

I could go on and on.... in summary, IBB''s years was the full scale start of Nigeria''s journey to perdition.... the journey of no return..That was when it became acceptabe that crime pays, when corruption became celebrated, and when parents stopped asking their kids questions about their sudden wealth.

Many of us who were university students during the IBB years left university and became jobless. Many of us end up in the western world. Unfortunately Nigerians have very short memory.

The reason why the Orkah bloody coup failed was because the plotter failed, or forgot, to disconnect the telephone lines. Every other things were perfectly orchestrated, even the fastidious and Conscientious IBB regime didn't not know the coup was being plan right under their nose, Lagos mainland. The coup plotter used a secluded and deserted swampy area in ikorodu to strategise and plan the coup. The coup was carried out on Monday, it was a public holiday. All the APC and tanks in dodan barrack, seat of government then, in Lagos have been rendered in ineffective so that the security details of IBB will not have something to rely on to fight back. ibb was almost gunned down in his room by the fearless and rampaging coupists. They have almost overrun the government house, they have already seized the broadcasting house in Ikoyi to announce the the change of government via radio, when ABACHA who was a key stalwart in IBB govt got wind of the whole situation via a telephone call, he he made frantic phone calls to the military division for reinforcement, the reinforcement came with full force with superior men and firepower. The coupists were outnumbered and were later overwhelmed by superior ammunition. The were arrested and executed.

Hmmm
... Do you know ibb never did trust abacha ? Abacha was a very intelligent cool and ca strategies andchardly spoke his mind .later on he discovers thean was indeed a loyalist

Yeah!!!! You can say that again! Same here.

We then later did a song together at one of the children's day celebration. It was Aunty Funmi Adams that wrote and composed the song..."Nigerian my Beloved Country" and "All We Need is Love". The show was held at the National Theatre, Iganmu, with the General himself present.

Really no TV, no electricity, no telephone - you weren't living in Nigeria then. Even my mother watched TV as a child, we had NITEL phone in my home, electricity was much better then. life was so peaceful then. We watched so many suspense filled soap operas non of the new one can ever compare with.
