Barely four years after the nation’s power sector was privatised, Churches under the Suleja Local Area, in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, are still groaning under the weight of ‘crazy bills’ and poor power supply from the electricity distribution firms, while Mosques are not meant to pay any electricity bills.
“They give us outrageous bills without recourse to the meters. Whether the meters are functional or not, they don’t want to know. At the end of the month, they give us estimated bills, based on the information from the Field Officers, while the Mosques don’t pay a kobo for electricity bills”, a Pastor confided in Post-Nigeria, on Tuesday morning.
When Post-Nigeria contacted the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company that covers the FCT, Niger, Kogi, and Nassarawa, through the GSM numbers, 08150181818, 08150191919, they refused to provide answers as to why Mosques are not billed every month, while Churches are made to pay ‘crazy bills’.

Speaking with An Assistant AEDC Assistant Manager, based in Suleja, who pleaded anonymity, he said that the instruction is from above.
”The Mosques in this city don’t pay bills. It is an instruction from above. No staff here can challenge that, except you want to lose your job.
“But it is unfortunate that they are robbing Peter to pay Paul. Churches are made to pay electricity bills through their noses.”
Recall, that last year, residents of Suleja Community stormed the AEDC office, located in Kwamba, protesting lack of power supply in their area, and incessant crazy bills from officials of the energy provider.
The protesters numbering about 100, had carried placards with different inscriptions including: “No light, No bill.”
The protesters chanted as they marched on the road. They complained about the lack of electricity in Suleja and its surrounding areas, and condemned the rise in electricity tariff.
They said it was sheer madness for the AEDC officials to keep bringing bills despite the very poor service.

Nigeria as a country is a scam. A country where the president is too sick to work but healthy enough to attend mosque prayers and now this.

I wish the condition of the nation affects only those that voted for this change.

Very True..... !! It's a grand design to eliminate Churches in Northern area. In most states of North C of O of Churches are never given. All North West and North East are in this demonic plot.

All Roads whether State or Federal owned that pass through any Mosques area are automatically the property of the Mosques and can be blocked on Jumat (fridays) prayers at will until prayers are over..

These are covertly dictating SHARIA LAW for all Nigerians to see..

My colleague earlier told me about the excesses of the Muslims in Suleja and their terrorist emir but I thought he was exaggerating. Buhari's presidency seems to have embolden the bigots the more.

OP first things first, Suleja isn't in FCT Abuja but in Niger state instead... Dats close to where d Zuma rock is... Back to d issue, whether anyone wants to believe it or not, it doesn't change d fact dat dats d status quo in Suleja and other parts of the North... Just last year Muslims attacked a Catholic Church opposite their mosque for having a program during their prayer even though d program had been on for 4days already. The town and it's emir are so intolerant to the non indigenes who ironically make up a huge percentage of the population. The town would have developed far more than it has so far of not for d many excesses of it's lazy ppl who blatantly flaunt tell ppl to go back to their place if dey aren't comfortable.. Cases of land grabbing is now d order of d day..

All along the world see us as an Islamic state
While we are here deceiving ourselves
No wonder Nigeria attends all global Islamic functions including the recent Islamic organized sporting events ...
We came out to cry wolf here on nairaland but they(Yoruba Muslims inclusive) said there is no wolf

I am from suleja, to begin with suleja is historically a Gbagi twon it belongs to them and the hausas are setlers as well as other ethnic groups in the town, suleja is one of the most peaceful town in Nigeria with a very diverse demography.

All the major ethnic groups are represented in suleja, it has a very large yoruba population, large igbo population and other ethnic groups like auchi, eghira, igala etc. Suleja closeness to Abuja is an important factor on the settlement pattern.

On religion, there are more churches in suleja than mosques, and people are free to worship in them, though, there are few extremist here and there but they don't have the follower or power to cause any mischief or problem.

Suleja is one of the easiest place to get a land, you can buy a land from the government or buy from the locals, provided all proper documentation are done you don't have any problem. I have been to the east, South west (I am yoruba) and I can categorically tell you that suleja is one of the easiest place to buy properties without any problem

What excesses? You have igbos buying property, building houses, going to government funded schools without any problem. I was born and bred in suleja, I have spend a larger percentage of my adulthood in around suleja and I haven't come across anyone complaining of being marginalized.

During my secondary school days, with have more igbos/South South class mate than hausas or Nupe, there are more area with substantial igbo population than hausas, there are more churches than mosque, igbos buy land cheaper and easier than a northerner will do in the east. What else do you want?

I stayed in Suleja for more than 15yrs so I know exactly what I'm talking about. I have family and friends in d town.. D debate isn't about d history of Suleja but their religious intolerance jus as it is in other parts of d north.. No one is telling u there aren't any churches in Suleja. I'm categorically telling u how intolerant d ppl are of both Christians and outsiders generally. From my initial post u can see where I mentioned non indigenes as having a higher percentage of the town's population. D original owners are gbagyi we all know dat but d hausas who we hear are originally from zaria in kaduna have successfully usurped d gbagyi as indigenes..

How can u admit to religious extremism as their problem and still claim it's safe? A typical hausa man is tolerant and open minded but wen u add religious extremism to his persona, tolerant and open minded is thrown out of the window..

That is the problem with Nigeria, we always like at issues from only two point, which is left or right, black or white etc but the truth his there a countless number of ways to issue.

I consider blocking of highways for Jumat prayer extreme despite been a Muslim,
I consider all the countless noise emancipating from religious houses extreme
I consider singing and dancing to the extreme every day of week to be extreme

These are points that both muslim and Christians are quilty of, I have areas in suleja because both extreme muslim and christians

I was born in Suleja and I have been living there for the past 31 years, I think I know what I'm talking about. when you talk about the people, what people are talking about? the Hausas don't make up more 40% and they mostly reside in the section of the town like emir's palace, dawaki, ansa dalatu, etc while more populous area like kwamba, gabodon, etc are dominated by Yorubas, other areas like Jubili, bakasi, back of hospital, madanla are dominated by igbos, other parts of the town are mixed.

I still stand by my point the, there is no religious intolerance in Suleja. the richest and famous business man is a Yoruba Christians (Oludele), the main market (IBB market) is dominated by Igbos how more tolerant do you want them to be?
