Question: In the meccan seerah of the prophet, when the ayat about giving to orphans and the needy were revealed, were the orphans and needy, muslim?? did the ayat say muslim orphans/needy?? The fact that you have to ask this question is a problem.. Read: https://www.nairaland.com/1293252/quranic-view-boko-haram-muslims 4 Likes |

Do not mind tbaba, he does not understand what you are describing. Those people ask for alms believing that they are holy and that you will enjoy their blessings if you give them a 'lil something'. To that extent, it is forbidden. I don't think those are Ifa worshipers though, more like Osun. I have never come across the Ifa variants, can you confirm this part of your post? 3 Likes |

^ Mac, maybe I do not understand the full import of the question but what you have described does not make it forbidden if you give only for the sake of Allah to people in need. However, if at the back of your mind when giving , is this luck stuff then it is better not to give since the intention is corrupt. The op did the correct thing, we can not begin to base our Charity on what is in the beggar's mind. And Allah knows best. 1 Like |

tbaba1234: ^ Mac, maybe I do not understand the full import of the question but what you have described does not make it forbidden if you give only for the sake of Allah to people in need. You still do not know what you are talking about. I agree that being charitable is not bound to any religion but in this particular example he is giving, it is wrong. Someone who has greater time and maybe patience should explain to tbaba. I do not believe he understands the modus operandi of the people in question. Going by your logic, you might as well start paying tithe to churches who tell you they use it for charity. 1 Like |

If you know for sure, it is going to be used for a bad purpose then you should not give. That's is the only other addition that can be made. |

my sis asked d same question when she saw this pix. The thought is that they possibly would use the money for their religious activities. In that case, it would be wrong to give it to them. But if it is simply charity, then there is nothing wrong with it. But I think we need tintingz to explain his basis for asking the Question. 3 Likes

Thanks for the answers so far maclatunji, tbaba and deols To make it more understandable... I dont know if they are ifa preist or osun worshipers but they put on white or native and tigh red clothing by their waist, they usualy beg for alms at bus stops so one came to me and she greeted ''eku jimo to ni'' then beged for money and i gave her lil money though i use to ignore them but today i feel like given them for Allah sake not for some ''blessings'' or whatever Given alms to the pagans is it forbidden in Islam as maclatunji said even though it is for Allah sake or nothing wrong with it as tbaba and deols said... since the Quran doesnt specify who we should give alms to. |

^You can give alms to anybody you like but I insist, it is highly unwise to give alms to such people because what you term as 'begging' is actually a part of their religious expression. After giving them the money their response is likely to be- 'blessings on you my son from XYZ'. That is the way they earn a living. It is from that so-called begging that some of them get patrons- 'I need a child, can you help me?' 'I don't want my husband to marry another husband', 'I want to have money', help me out. I see these people at Mushin bus stop by Total almost certainly, anytime I pass there. It is their religion, what business does a conscious Muslim have to do with that? 2 Likes 1 Share |

Points noted. . We should get an online sheikh. I do not fully understand how this thing works so I will not comment further. Certainly Allah knows best. |

This is similar case experienced by a sheikh Rabiu AbdulMalik Adebayo in osun state. He and his colleagues went to Osun state for janaza. Getting there, and walking around the city, group of women in white cloth called 'Osun worshippers' approached them and asked for money in the name of Osun. The sheikh said they (alfas) kept silent and kept walking until one of them said "please give us for the sake of God". The sheikh said "right away we stopped and give money". He talked about this experience during his lecture about giving for God's sake only. And that there is no need for asking which religion xyz belongs to as precondition. But obviously they are religious people called Osun worshipers. Maclatuniji was right about that. Sheikh said further that the women are well aware they are Muslim but 'they chose to beg us in the name of Osun which we are against'. |

Firstly, it's a very stupid thing to make me accept that I am a Muslim because it won't change the fact that Jesus is the only true God while others are demons. @topic Thanks for letting us know it's forbidden to give to pagans. All those Muslim beggars at my bustop will starve. Let alla provide for them 6 Likes |

I don't get it. I thought charity is supposed to begin at home. Shouldn't muslims be worried about the fact that the vast majority of beggars (more than 80%) are muslims, before they start taking panadol extra for somebody else's headache? In Nigeria, even Muslim scholars acknowledge that islam is the leading light when it comes to the mass production of beggars. There are many articles on how muslims dominate begging in Nigeria on nairaland. You might try reading some of them: https://www.nairaland.com/2524096/see-where-beggars-nigeria-come Infact according to two muslim scholars, Abubakar Abdulganiyu Adedibu and Mohammad Omar Jeleel research shows that over 80% of the beggars in all the major cities in Nigeria, even those in Eastern Nigeria, are muslims: Even your beloved Emire Lamido Sanusi admitted that if Northern Nigeria were to become a country of its own, it would be poorest country on earth. So why are you reasoning out of your anus like this? 3 Likes |

Firstly, it's a very stupid thing to make me accept that I am a Muslim because it won't change the fact that Jesus is the only true God while others are demons. you are vexing o, but judging from what their sabi brethren are saying...i can conveniently deduce that it is wrong for me as a christian to give alms to any baga for saying bambi allah ... hypocrisy of Muslim is just sky high..as if their alfas dont use fetish things too..go to leku leja shop..see them with their headtie buying different things. .I even have an alfa friend called alfa orunmila.. its ok to do whatever you believe in..dont just be hypocritical about it |

tbaba1234: I am with tbaba on this ,irrespective of the persons motive ,all or majorly what counts it's the givers motive,is it for the sake of Allah? Pride ? Expecting favours from the white cloth wearing people ? This question can also be linked with the question of saving an unbeliever or the people of the books say from drowning in a pool should you be able to swim or from a point of death should be able to save them . The sin would be you not saving them. To this point i would say give should you be able to afford it and with good intentions. Barakallah fik. No one has the monopoly of knoweledge so I am not saying I am absolutely correct nor tbaba . Allah knows best |

Disclaimer : I am not an Islamic Sage.... I have read the discourse with great interest. You guys on both sides of the divide - Give or not give both have your solid points. In my own opinion, Allah knows what me & YOU, my dear reader's intentions even before the thought grows in our mind. My answer is this, if it's for humanitarian sake - to quench hunger or save lives....GIVE. if it's to propagate another religion e.g. tithes, DON'T GIVE. In this particular case... I would advice you to give it touches your heart but when they are about to bless you with other gods...you don't wait to listen. Allah knows the true reason you are giving - for charity or to show-off and reward you accordingly. Good luck 1 Like |

Anyways I had a problem when I use to think like you people but now I have no problem. I gave an Osun worshiper woman money yesterday on my way home without no worries of someone said this or that. |

tintingz:Why did you not ask him why he said so? And others also took him up and he said he did not understand the context Should you also not factor that into your conclusion? tintingz:Actually this is relative You did not know you had a problem then, did you?
