Two more Onyekuru goals to bring his total to 25. I think, he can be proud of his season.

Eagles Newbie Onyekuru Nets Brace In Final Game For Eupen

Super Eagles of Nigeria latest invitee Henry Onyekuru waved goodbye to the fans of Eupen with a brace in their 2-3 loss to Roeselare in the Belgium play-offs.

Roeselare took the lead through former Nigeria U-20 and 23 forward Saviour Godwin , and his team were cruising to a 3-0 win before Onyekuru struck twice in two minutes to help his team put some respect to the scoreline.

The brace takes his tally to 25 for the season in all competitions for modest side Eupen, who are campaigning in the top division in Belgium for the first time.

19 year old Onyekuru has longed voiced out his desire to finish as top scorer in the league, and his brace today pulls him three goals clear in the race to be top scorer with one round of game left to be played in the play-offs.

West Ham United, Southampton and Crystal Palace have all sounded out his representative over a move in the summer, with Eupen demanding a fee in the region of £7m for his transfer.

PAUL ONUACHU'S BRACE LEADS NINE-MAN MIDTJYLLAND PAST NORDSJÆLLAND
By Samuel Ahmadu

The Nigerian was on song twice as his visiting Wolves overcame their hosts in a five-goal thriller in Saturday's Danish topflight clash

Paul Onuachu scored twice as nine-man Midtjlland defeated Nordsjelland 3-2 at the Farum Stadium on Sunday.

The Nigerian's brace plus Andre Romer's strike helped them outscore Kasper Hjulmand's side despite Karlo Bartolec and Andreas Maxso's strikes for the home team.

The 22-year-old scored the Wolves first and the second goal in the first and 28th-minute before Roemer's goal in the 72nd minute handed the visitors a 3-0 lead.

In final 16 minutes, Janus Drachmann and Markus Halsti were sent off, reducing Jess Thorup's men to nine-man but Bartolec and Maxso's goals failed to see the hosts escape defeat.

The goals were Onuachu's 17th and 18th goal in 34 appearances for the Danish topflight outfit as his side moves to third on the log with 54 points from 35 games.

The Europa League chasing Wolves will welcome fourth-placed Lyngby in their next game at the MCH Arena on May 28.

Wolfsburg Pull Osimhen Out Of Super Eagles Friendly Against Corsica

Victor Osimhen will not be making his debut for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the friendly game against Corsica due to club commitments with Wolfsburg, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

The German side are going to be involved in the relegation / promotion play offs to preserve their Bundesliga status after the 1-2 loss they suffered in the hands of Hamburg in the final game of the regular season in Germany.

Wolfsburg will take on the third placed team in the second division in Germany, which for now is Eintracht Braunschweig ahead of the final round of games in the second division on Sunday.

Osimhen who has broken into the first team of the German side with two appearances to his name will be needed by the team for the two legged play-offs, which coincides with dates the Eagles will be in action.

The first leg is scheduled to take place on the 25th of May, a day before Nigeria’s clash against Corsica in France, but he could be available for the game against Togo on June 1st, as the second leg of their play-offs will take place on the 29th of May.

Onyekuru Hits 25th Eupen Goal ; Saviour , Eduok , Gero Also On Target
By Johnny Edward

Super Eagles invitee for the friendlies against Corsica and Togo, Henry Onyekuru, bagged a second-half brace for Eupen in their 3-2 Belgian Pro League defeat to Roeselare at the Schiervelde Stadium on Saturday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

It was the Nigerian’s fourth brace this season. He has scored 25 times for Eupen this season in all competitions.

His compatriot and former Flying Eagles star Saviour Godwin was also on target in that encounter for Roselare.

In Germany, another Super Eagles invitee Victor Osimhen made his second Bundesliga appearance for Wolfsburg on Saturday.
The 18-year-old replaced Sun Jung in the 76th minute of the encounter.

The result means Wolfsburg will face a two-leg playoff against the third place finisher in the Bundesliga 2, likely to be Eintracht Braunschweig, to determine which side plays in the Bundesliga next season. The relegation playoff means Osimhen might not feature for the Super Eagles in their friendly against Corsica and Togo later this month.

Leon Balogun was forced off in the 18th minute of Mainz’s 2-0 loss to Cologne who qualified for the Europa League next season. Balogun made 17 Bundesliga appearances for Mainz this season.

In Spain, Elderson Echiejile played no part in Sporting Gijon’s 2-2 home draw against Real Betis. The result means Gijon are relegated to the Spanish second division for next season.

Ramon Azeez was in action for Almeria who lost 1-0 to Real Mallorca in a Spanish second division – LaLiga 123 – clash. His compatriot Kalu Uche was not listed in the matchday squad.

In Denmark, Paul Onuachu scored a brace for Midtjylland who defeated Nordsjaelland 3-2 in an ill-tempered game which saw 11 yellow cards and two red cards issued. The brace took Onuachu’s tally to 22 this season. It was his fifth brace of the campaign.

Izunna Uzochukwu played for 55 minutes for OB Odense as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Randers FC.

In Turkey, Emem Eduok scored his sixth Turkish Super Lig goal of the season for Kasimpasa in their 4-1 loss to Besiktas. The Nigerian international restored parity for his side in the fourth minute after the hosts took the lead in the second minute through Cameroonian Vincent Aboubacar.

Bright Edomwonyi scored his second goal of the season for Rizespor who brightened their chances of avoiding relegation with a 2-0 win over Gaziantepspor on Saturday.
The former Sturm Graz and Hartberg striker opened scoring in the 27th minute of the encounter before Leonard Kweuke sealed the win in the 80th minute of the encounter.

It was Edomwonyi’s third goal in third goal in 17 appearances in all competitions. His compatriots, Nosa Igiebor and Godfrey Oboabona, were also in action at the Yeni Rize Şehir stadium. Igiebor was replaced in the 68th minute by Oguzhan Aynaoglu.
The game was Oboabona’s 25th of the campaign while it was Igiebor’s 12th league game.

Raheem Lawal played for all 90 minutes for Kayserispor who were held to a 1-1 draw by Adanaspor.

Sunday Mba featured for 74 minutes before being replaced by Adan Aras in Yeni Matalysapor’s Turkish second division 4-0 defeat away to Sivasspor. His compatriot, Azubuike Okechukwu, was not listed for the encounter.

In Sweden, Alhaji Gero scored his fifth goal of the season for Oestersunds in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Kalmar FF.

In Austria, Kayode Olanrewaju failed to rescue his team Austria Wein from a 2-1 loss away to Wolfsburger AC. The Nigerian striker who has scored 23 goals this term was yellow carded in the stoppage time of his side’s defeat.

In Portugal, Oghenekaro Etebo played for all 90 minutes in Feirense’s 1-0 win over Vitoria Guimaraes.

TOP FIVE NPFL TITLE CONTENDERS

Akwa United: Despite a shaky start this term, the Promise Keepers’ results have improved tremendously and are now among favourites to emerge as NPFL champions. They shocked Kano Pillars in their last away tie before the end of the first round and their acquisition of ex-AC Milan trainee, Harmony Ikande, Okechukwu Gabriel and Ojo Olorunleke has further shown statement of intent.

They rely on the fine form of Alhassan Ibrahim and Christian Pyagbara. The technical input of Abdu Maikaba is another huge factor.

MFM: After escaping the drop on the final day of the season, Fidelis Ilechukwu and his boys started the season very brilliantly and are among the favourites for the league title if they do not capitulate in the second round. They got six points away and have secured maximum points from all their home matches in the first round. The Olukoya Boys are blessed with Stephen Odey, Chukwuka Onuwa and Sikiru Olatunbosun.

Plateau United: They were the highest scoring side at the end of the first round with 27 goals and they also possessed the least conceding defence with only 12 goals. The Peace Boys are no doubt in formidable shape to challenge for the title. Kennedy Boboye’s men have fared better away from home picking seven points from nine games. The Jos side have re-invent their squad with new players like Bature Yaro and Hamzat Jamiu and they have a fantastic skipper in Elisha Golbe who has been combining his work as a defender with scoring some crucial goals especially from set piece.

Enyimba: Though they are seventh on the log with 28 points and seven points adrift of leaders, Plateau United, the People's Elephant are unlikely to be ruled out of the title race based on their experience and the quality players they have at their disposal. They were horrible last season under Paul Aigbogun but they have started showing the dreaded Enyimba of the past under Gbenga Ogunbote. The Aba side can rely on the form of Mfon Udoh, Stephen Chukwude and the Togolese import, Franco Atchou Koffi to make more meaningful impact in the second round.

El Kanemi Warriors: Holding a 100 percent winning record at home, the Borno Army and the priceless road win in Umuahia against Abia Warriors showed they cannot be ruled out of the title race.
They are only two points behind leaders, Plateau United, Ladan Bosso's men are likely to remain in title contention if they keep their home winning form intact and ground out more points on the road in the second round. They must also pray that Samuel Matthias should continue with his fine scoring form of the first round.

I know wat I'm talking about. I have even wondered why the boy was being bashed even when he was no where near the team picture. Now people want to credit the coach so it looks as if it was a miracle and not the boy finding his feet in Europe as a young man.

You honestly think Awo could find his feet without the hard work of the coach? Baffling. Awo himself says the team now plays to his strength. How do you think a team can play to the strength of a player without the coach adapting his tactics to suit the player?

I wonder what you think coaching is about. The coaches deserve lots of credits after spending hundreds of hours with the players.

Football has little patience and therefore very limited time. While you are taking time to get it right other players are already getting it right and leaving you behind.

Awoniyi has already had too much time 32 games in lower level of European league football and 3 goals, is not quality form.

It is not about who started early but finishing well. Awo is still young. He has good attributes and if he gets his scoring boots, he can become a quality player.

If a player like Shane Long can become a recognised EPL forward, Awo with the right scoring boots can become a bigger player than that.

Wilfred NDIDI’s foster parents speak on the Nigerian star

…My wife was in tears when Ndidi moved to Leicester — Foster dad

Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is one of the former English champions ’ shiny stars after a dream £ 17 m move to the English Premier League from Belgian side KRC Genk in January.

The Nigerian international caught the eye after two outstanding seasons in Belgium ’ s Jupiler Liga , where his wonder strike against Club Brugge was adjudged the Goal of the Season as well as coming second in the Young Player of the Year last season .

Also , a great outing for Genk in the Europa League group stages , where Ndidi made more tackles and interceptions than any other player , convinced the then Premier League champions about the youngster ’s abilities in their pursuit for a successor to Frenchman N ’Golo Kanté , who had left for Chelsea .
And they moved swiftly to tie up a deal for him , churning out £ 17 m , what Genk wanted , for a player they signed for £ 78 ,000 from Lagos side Nath Boys two years ago .

The 20- year - old made his debut for the Foxes on January 7 , in a 2 – 1 win against Everton in an FA Cup third round tie but a week later , he was on the losing side on his first EPL game as the former champions , who were managed then by Claudio Ranieri , got trounced 3 - 0 by eventual champions Chelsea at the King Power Stadium .

However, the Nigerian international quickly settled down to business and emerged one of the spectacular players on offer in the EPL this season .

Ndidi, though more saddled with winning balls and setting up his team ’s play also scored twice , to also show his knack for goals when the occasion demanded and both strikes were amazing .

First his superb shot from 25 yards inside five minutes of extra time, after being on the pitch for just four minutes , gave Leicester a 2 - 1 lead against a stubborn Derby County side before Demarai Gray put the game beyond the Championship side late on in an FA Cup game on February 8 .

However, Ndidi’s second goal against Stoke in the Premier League, another long range effort from 30 yards , was even more sublime . Danny Drinkwater teed up the Nigerian , who charged forward before rifling home an explosive 30- yard shot into the top- right corner past goalkeeper Lee Grant for his side ’s first goal in a 2 - 0 win .

After a campaign that went awry mid- season culminating in the sack of history- making Ranieri , with his assistant Craig Shakespeare put in his place , Leicester ended the season in mid- table .

But once again Ndidi was one of the highlights of The Foxes’ topsy- turvy season , and ended being voted Leicester City ’s Young Player of the Year despite just being at the club for five months . His goal against Stoke was also nominated for the Goal of the Season . Drinkwater ’s strike against Liverpool won the award .

The son of a soldier , Ndidi was born in Lagos on December 16 , 1996 but the youngster ’s quick adaptation to European life and football was largely aided by a Belgian couple , Theo van Vlierden and his wife , Marleen , who adopted the emerging star on his arrival at Genk in 2015.

African players struggle to adapt to the weather , food , culture , language and several other barriers on their arrival in Europe but Ndidi, the footballer with humble beginnings , found love in Belgium the moment he met the Van Vlierdens .

The couple tells ’TANA AIYEJINA about their first encounter with Ndidi and how they have lived as one happy family ever after …

How and when did you get to know Wilfred?

Theo: That was the beginning of January 2014 when Wilfred arrived in Belgium for his two - month test period with KRC Genk. At that moment he was still a young guy, just 17 years old . The first three or four days he arrived , he was staying in a hotel. But there was a lack of hospitality space and KRC Genk called us with the request if we wanted to take Wilfred in our home for a few weeks . My wife and I looked at each other, we didn’t say anything and we nodded our heads , which meant yes .

What was your first impression of him and what attracted your family to him?

Marleen: I think our first impression of Wilfred was one of a shy and timid boy . We immediately thought it must be very cold in his summer clothes , it was winter and very cold . His shy smile and pearly white teeth did the rest and we agree.

How challenging was it for him adapting to life in Europe?

Theo: Of course it ’s a big challenge for every boy of that age to adapt in a foreign country. But I must say that he has adapted quickly to life here and even in England . When he first got to Belgium , he felt quite at home after just a few weeks . We also told him several times what he should do when he was at home and he was a part of our family .

They say Wilfred is such a charming personality , do you agree?

Marleen: Yes , we fully agree. Wilfred is a charming personality. Always good humoured, friendly and polite . Not only in our home , also towards other people . He is loved by KRC Genk staff , his teammates and the fans .

When he made the move to England , how did the family feel?

Theo: After more than two years living together , this certainly creates a special bond. Of course we have and will always miss him. He has become a part of the family . He is our son and will always stay our son . His move to England left Marleen with some tears . For me , it was also very emotional . We hear from him almost on a daily basis via WhatsApp and social media . In the past few months, we visited him with our son Christophe , several times . The first time was in January for the game between Leicester City and Chelsea . The second time was a few weeks after then. Together with our son , we transported in a Ford Transit van , we took his clothes and other things via the Channel Tunnel to Leicester in the UK . In March and April we also visited him again and we watched a few games of Leicester .

With his amazing talents and personality, how far do you think Wilfred can get as a footballer?

Theo: We strongly believe Wilfred will go very far as a football player . If his attitude keeps focused on football, he will make progress. For sure , I do not believe that this is his final station .

Ndidi scored his first goal in England, a superb 25 - yard effort in the FA Cup. How did the family celebrate the goal ?

Marleen: We were very happy . At the same time that evening my husband and son were at the Belgian Golden Shoe Gala evening . Wilfred was awarded with the Most Beautiful Goal of the Year 2016 in Belgium and he was also one of the three nominees for the Promising Young Player of the Year. He scored a magnificent goal against Club Brugge , which you would have also seen , I suppose .

Quite a lot of people feel it would be difficult for him to fill N ’Golo Kante ’s large boots . Were you skeptical initially?

Theo: No I was not at all . You cannot compare both players . Kante is Kante and Ndidi is Ndidi. Let ’s face the future , Kante has large boots but Ndidi has long and extendable legs that are everywhere to recover the ball . He has a very large running ability and huge endurance .

When he first arrived in Belgium , how did he cope with the food , weather , culture etc?

Marleen: Of course it took some time. But in general everything was going very well. I cooked a lot of food with rice , noodles and chicken . He also likes to eat egg omelette with ham, tomatoes and onions . He also finds delicious oven casserole , meatloaf with mashed potatoes and leeks .

Sometimes a Nigerian teammate brought him Nigerian food from the city of Antwerp . The weather was something else . I hear in Nigeria it’s always warm between 28 degrees in winter till 36 degrees and more in summer . That is a lot of difference with the temperature here . For example he never saw snow ( before he arrived in Belgium ) .

How much do you know about his Nigerian roots?

Theo: We know something about his roots. We saw some pictures of his mother , father and two younger sisters . Of course we know something of the Nigerian society and we see also the news on TV.

Ndidi : ‘ Angry ’ Leicester Must Respond After Spurs Hammering
By James Agberebi

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi hopes Leicester City finish the 2016/2017 Premier League season on a positive note after their 6-1 home loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.

Harry Kane scored four as Spurs inflicted Leicester's worst defeat since the 5-0 loss to Aston Villa in January 2004.

"It was really disappointing," Ndidi told Leicester Mercury.

"It is the lowest I have felt since joining. The coach said now we have to finish on a high, he wants that.

"For the goals, everyone is angry and everybody is not happy about it. We just have to let it go and focus on the last game (against Bournemouth on Sunday).

"We really tried to get back in the game but Tottenham broke after the third goal. Everything was not normal.

"We really need to try to end the season with a smile on the face of the fans.

"It is possible we will use the anger on Sunday to help us. I am
thinking about this and we have to give everything to win.

"I could see the anger in Kasper's (Schmeichel) face but everybody is sad."

On the impact of the loss on the future of Craig Shakespeare as manager of Leicester for next season, Ndidi said: "I don't know but Shakey is a good coach. Every player is doing his best."

Extract from Pep's latest pre-match conference/interview where reports say he deflected back questions on Nacho's and Aguero's future with the club but also had this to say about Nacho

Already, We know Pep confesses his admiration for Nacho's beastly dedication to training and his improvements too but yet nothing to make him play Nacho enough... He calls Nacho "Keli" and claims he didn't play too much for "my reasons"..... thank God Summer don come sef.... angry

Since the arrival of Brazil striker Gabriel Jesus in January, Kelechi Iheanacho has been confined to a role on the margins of the first-team squad and the 20-year-old was reported to have attracted £20million attention from Everton and West Ham this week.

Nevertheless, Guardiola name checked all three of his main strikers, along with midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and wingers Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling as men who can be involved in alleviating the main bugbear of his first year in Manchester.

"We have to play a little bit better to create more chances, to create more goals," he said.

"If we reduce that gap, maybe our gap against Chelsea and Tottenham will be short. If we don't it will be the same.

"I think we have the quality of the players to score goals. Keli (Kelechi), he didn't play too much for my reasons, but he has the quality. Sergio there is no doubt about that; Gabriel there is no doubt about that.

"Kevin I think is a guy to score 12 or 14 goals per season, no problem at all. And our wingers scored goals.

"Leroy, his impact in the second part of the season was amazing – he scored a lot of goals - and Rash (Raheem Sterling) in the first part of the season was top, creating chances, crosses, penalties, assists and goals.....

It is obvious Nacho is still so highly rated at the Etihad but lad needs to get a move on to bigger things....

The comments from Pep serve only to raise Nacho's asking price. No amount of praise can compare to 15 minutes of football.

The job of the coach is to put the player in the right places while the job of the player is to perform. I never said don't give the coach credit but the player must come first. He put in those hours and he has the skill that were put to use. He is not a machine that the coach spent hours programing. U always give the player the credit and then let him share it out how he see's fit. It could be teammates, coaches, family, etc.

I called Awo thrash? That is not true. I said he is not as talented as Musa Yahaya, Success, Iheanacho and Chidi Nwakali. These lads are more talented than him. I wonder how that equates to calling him thrash.

Stop it. U asked where he was playing, then u used the fact he was not scoring goals against him.
