Most people are ignorant of the fact that our gadgets are gradually exposing us to various harm....you might say it's irrelevant now but this kinda of thing might come back to haunt you at old age.

I feel like this is impossible.

It's the sweetest feeling in the world! Having actual and in-person conversations with a friend; taking your dog out for a solemn stroll whilst the chill evening breeze laps invitingly at your face; being fully aware of your surroundings and drinking in all that Mother Nature has to offer; burying your nose in a good book without having your stream of consciousness perturbed by the soulless pingings and clangings of a new BBM message, or an IG update, or a Facebook notification.

Save for that climatic moment of erotic passion when ropes of creamy syrup is expelled from my penile nozzle, I don't think any other experience compares to when I go Cold Turkey on my phone or laptop. cheesy

You should try it sometime!

Instructive write-up by the way. I had to steer clear of e-books for the very reason that my eyes began to hurt terribly - especially after long hours of staring at the screen of my phone. Another downside to smartphone usage is text neck. Ever heard of it?

Don't be naive. It's not. Had perfect eyesight till I started using my android on full brightness at night. Now I got bad vision in one eye at night.
So glad my smartphone runs on nougat and I got live display set up. It dims the light and filters out the blue display, giving me a more reddish look at night which helps in preventing eye damage.

Same stuff goes for laptops. Always dim your display at night. My laptop comes with a function to remove blue light from the display. Just made using my laptop at night more comfortable.

Hmmm.. Alright... Just learnt sumptn cool

Very good write up @MizMyColi, but take note, some persons cannot avoid this problem because using the blue filter mode with a very bright screen at night also damages the eyes. When some of us read reviews, we just run towards camera, ram, rom, processor, and battery. For me, knowing the maximum brightness and minimum brightness, measured in knits is very important. A good screen is one that has a very high brightness level and very low brightness at the same time. Most cheap screens are too bright even at 0 level brightness, their 0 brightness is like 30% brightness of good screens. So the first step is to know if the minimum brightness of your screen is even safe.

My eyes are too sensitive to light; I can't stand brightness of any kind. My brightness level is less than 5%- this gives me internal peace.

A Silent Eye Killer

Have you considered that turning on the brightness level of your device beyond 30% could be impacting your eyes in ways that could render them useless in a not too distant future?

Are you part of my crew who just love handling their various range of smartphones and have a knack for ensuring the phone is really bright "so that it won't be too dull on the eyes?"

Have you noticed that you can reflexively close your left eye and open the right one. But it's very hard to close the right eye and open the left one....or vice versa?

Have you noticed that you view your smartphone for a while and then when you lift your head, you find that your eyes are somewhat blurry?

Chances are that the muscle of that eye is weak.
Have you also noticed that sometimes it feels like there is a stone or something in your eyes. This could be after effects of overly exposing your eyes to bright light on your smartphone, laptops and all.

It is important to ensure that you keep the brightness on your smartphone at a reasonable level.
If possible, turn it off completely whenever you can.

Research and user experiences world wide has proven that using a smartphone at night, in the dark, especially during bedtime, can actually cause the feeling of momentary blindness.

We should avoid stories that touch.

In my opinion, the eye is the most important sensory organ in the body and should be treated with utmost care, especially as regards using smartphones.

Thank you for reading.

there is this app called night filter that reduces the brightness. It's great and I recommend it

Infact, I am of the opinion that most cheap phones have very poor screen resolutions.
I still prefer the resolution in Camon Cx to the one on L9 plus.

Thanks for your educative post.
Now I have one thing to look out for.

Thanks for this post. I'm a already a victim. I've been experiencing some difficulties using my left eye. It always seem to be wet and blurs my vision. I'm going to reduce the brightness now sharp sharp. Thanks

I thought im the only one noticing this thing cos this my eye has developed some wahala cos of smartphones, i even had to visit an eye specialist around last 2 months cos of what smartphones has done to me and he told me to get glasses to correct my vision. Well luckily for me, the new phone i got has Miravision and also BluLight defender and Adaptive Brightness so it helped reduce it. Prevention is better than cure. A stitch in time saves nine.
Which phone is that? Hope it's not one of those overly expensive ones? Maybe I can lay my hands on it.
