This garden started as a result of roasted corn price inflation around April this year when maize were just getting to markets in little quantities.

I really like roasted corn, so i priced a small one and the woman selling it told me that it's N80, i bargained for N50, but she didn't reply me again. That means she can't accept N50 for the corn so i left, sad i won't taste the corn.

Then i made up my mind that i will plant my own maize too since maize doesn't require much procedure, and i will roast it myself and eat it when i harvest my own maize.

where is the Garden
Re: The Making Of My Small Garden.(pics) by oyetpel(m): 11:29am On Jul 04, 2017
So there is this open land in front of our house.

We should have fenced it when built our house but my popman was reluctant then. And now the church in front of our house said there is a motorable road that will pass in front of our house.

I felt it's as a result of hatred and jealousy, maybe they don't want us to build another house on the land. Because the land is almost up to a plot.

So i usually spray the land with herbicides(weed killers) when whenever weeds have grown too much on the land.

So i thought why no plant on it instead of spraying it all the time to kill the weed?

Then i cleared the land after that i started making ridges.

Some old men in the started asking me what i wanted to plant on it, and i told them its maize.

Then they said that its goats that will help me finish the maize.

I was discouraged and i stopped

This was around early May. If i had planted then my maize would have been ready for harvest by now.

I later devised a plan to keep the goats out.

Check the picture below.

The maize is a week old at this stage.

LOL - to keep goats away, all u need to do is get goat faeces (shit), mix it with water, sieve it and spray on the plants.
Anything that goat faeces or urine touches, they will never taste it. they usually smell before eating so once they perceive the smell the look away. You can spray it weekly or 2 weeks.

it worked for me

the ridges are too narrow if heavy rain pours it will erode them quickly and u will hav to keep repairing them. this may stress your maize. by the way, be ready to spray if u want yield...

As you can see in the 2nd picture above, there is a straight line drawn.

That's where i plan to erect a perimeter fencing to keep out the goats finally.

My next mission is to buy 'chicken' net for the perimeter fencing, and also get bamboo to support the net.
Re: The Making Of My Small Garden.(pics) by oyetpel(m): 8:01pm On Jul 04, 2017
Chicken net bought.

And i went to chop down the bamboo sticks myself in a bush, just needed fare to transport the bamboo sticks to our house.

Chopping down the bamboo was not easy, hmm.

Fence erected.

U bought cement to support the bamboo sticks at the bottom, i erected all the bamboo myself.

But i called a carpenter to join the net to the bamboo.

As mathematicians will say, the maize fencing(done to keep out the goats) is now a subset of the universal fencing.

Now find M interception F.

LOL.

I planted cocoyam too, they are the ones in the ridges visible in the pictures above.

I also caught some big snails in the bush close to our house.
So i rear snails too.
I constructed a small snail pen inside the garden.

Snails trying to figure out how to escape.

I just hope Lincoln Burrows is not in this penitentiary.

I won't want a situation where his brother, Micheal Scofield will draw all the blueprint of the pen, in other to break his brother out.

LOL

My next work on the garden is to lift some compost organic soil from a nearby house to the garden in other to prepare beds for tomatoes and Lagos Spinach(Efo soko).

It was hectic lifting the soil onto the garden, was really tired at the end of the day.

Lagos spinach bed is the long one close to the fence.

I made four shallow trenches on it, and added dried poultry dungs on the trenches to enrich the soil as seen in the pictures
above
The 2nd bed in the middle is for tomato planting.

Flood! Flood!! Flood!!! after yesterday's rain (03/07/2017)
Happy i didn't plant the Lagos spinach seeds before the rain.
The flood didn't destroy anything tho.
After the rain, i corrected the source where the excess water were running into the garden, and i planted the tomatoes seeds and Lagos Spinach seeds later in the evening.

Shouts out to you jidestroud.

I admire you for your perseverance and dedication bro.

How i wish we could be partners, acquire large farms, plan and plant together.
