Sabi mama's
Na my tori be dis. My ds will be 3months on Friday and by right my leave expires officially on Friday but for the long holidays I will not be resuming till September and he will have to go to daycare embarassed
I a. Still considering getting someone to accompany me to work, stay at a colleagues house in the staff quarters while I go to breast feed him regularly. because my school has a no baby to work policy.

Incase I don't get anyone around though I am considering paying the person same amount as what the daycare changes. So I am trying to make my ds suck breast milk from feeding bottle incase I have to make him stay at the daycare but its not just working. And dh has been begging me to go to his parents home for holiday so because of the bottle feeding thing I managed to agree. Now am at his parents house and they are just carrying him about and will not allow him sleep on the bed. Ok I extracted the milk and gave to his big cousin to feed him cos he will not suck bottle from me when he can get it from me from the direct source.
He just tasted it and said ok its that same stuff I get from mummy but why is it coming from a different source. Well he winked his cute little eyes and gathered every in his mouth and spat it out. I don know how long we can go through this.

And when you store breast milk in the freezer do you have to warm ut b4feeding.

And I don't intend to give formula untill one year so I will have to mix his cereal with breast milk. And still breastfeed is this idea ok. Pls make Una no look-a-pass me.

Let me answer the one I can

Persevere. He'll eventually take the bottle, most likely from other people but don't stop trying. Leave the room completely when it's feeding time

For storage, breastmilk stays 6 hours in open air, 3-4 days in the fridge, 6 months in a deep freezer (it must be frozen consistently oh, so light must be pretty regular

To defrost don't warm. Bring out from freezer to fridge then out in open air a couple of hours before feeding. Best way is to allow the milk achieve room temp naturally. Other option is to put bottle in a bowl of hot/warm water

You can start with single grain cereals for 4 to 6 months to rule out allergies, introduce one in three days. You can find them in Gerber, Aptamil, Cow and gate. When your child hits 6 months, you can introduce cereals and pap. You will find a lot of varieties here as most cereals are from 6 months (i do august secret and variety of cereals). You could also go for homemade pureed food, (read back a page and see alphahandmaidens post) also check her blog too. Don't stop the formula, apart from his formula intake, you can mix with pap/other cereals that do not contain milk. From 9 months, you can start introducing finger foods to ur baby.

Note that some babies don't do this cereal thing and go straight to swallowing our usual meal once they hit six months. Find out ur los preferences and let him enjoy the transition

thanks ma'am.... Really appreciate this. I guess I'm in the best forum

I know my post might be ignored as am not an active maa. But let me sha still talk. When I had to resume work and my baby was just 3months + i tried using bottles to feed her but it was war. I had to tell my mum and sis cos she was to stay with them when I resume to feed her with cup and spoon while still trying to teach her to use the bottle. My baby adjusted very fast. I guess cos she wasnt seeing me.

My baby rejected all the formular I bought. She will be 10months next week and i still drop a reasonable quantity of expressed breastmilk for her before leaving for work. Feeding her with cereal and breastmilk to me is not a bad idea.

I think it's quite poor at 3.9kg for that age for someone that weighed 3.2 at birth, is your breast milk coming out well? You can gauge it by expressing it in a bottle so as to know the quantity your baby is taking.

Long post alert!!

I think I need to share this to help alot of mama
This week have been a very trying week with my baby in and out of the hospital.so my once active baby started feeling weak and having high temperature and dizzy always gasping for air (I actually thought it was cattarh), he would make a step or two and fall which was on unlike him. I rushed him to the hospital and doctor said I should do some test.
We found out that his blood level was seriously low (6) while normal should be (11 or 12) that means he is anemic.they gave me the normal antibiotics and paracetamol (I would definitely go back there to blast that yeye doctor at first rivers)
I came home and started research and I found out about iron deficiency anemia, you see right from birth my baby has always been a picky eater, he was on breast milk for one year because he out rightly refused all food but started taking pap after his birthday I would give pap and breast milk only in the morning, afternoon and night but I made the mistake of switching to cow milk instead of baby formula.
My mistake are: as a picky eater I shouldn't have switched over to cow milk because cow milk don't have the essential iron in it and I was busy giving him a lot of cow milk instead of baby formula that would have giving him all he wants.

So pleas if you have a picky eater like my d's
1 don't be in a haste to switch to cow milk.

2 introduce iron supplements I after their six months mark to help in blood production.

3 keep trying out new food.i gave up on my baby and was just comfortable with giving him only pap.

Note this is a personal experience and my baby is fine now and supplements. Thanks!!

Most men are just like your hubby, mine inclusive.I think you should take advantage of where you are now(in-laws place). Constantly express and give someone to feed him while you keep yourself away from his sight.

She will be 9months soon.

Doesn't pay attention in that she just loses interest.

Perhaps you can try giving her smaller quantities, since she looses interest or make the food out of small bits of different things to introduce variety . Also try and introduce some finger foods to the mix to encourage engagement.

For example::

Have a bit of sliced steamed carrots, cut up bread/toast, some avocado and a boiled egg. You can mash quarter/half avocado and half egg, and slice up the remaining egg.
After a few spoons of avocado puree, if she appears to be loosing interest put the carrot, egg or toast in her hand for her to feed her self and keep alternating it like that. and see if introduction of variety and engagement will work.

You know we naija people can like to have one big bowl of something as food. grin but unfortunately it doesnt always work for babies
