I used Northside in Atlanta . D hospital big oo.. with massive structures. I however heard dat the Forsyth branch is new so I guess it would have newer facilities. It was closer to where I stayed but I didn't know till after I had put to birth.

I think d thing to consider when making the choice is its proximity to where you will b staying.

All you need is a fit to fly from the port authority in Lagos airport... they charge 1500 or 2k.. I travelled 3weeks ago and that was all I was asked and you need to travel before 36weeks.....

cheesy cheesy which money do they give citizens? Nothing is free in America. No free money is given. I'm guessing you're talking about the yearly tax returns and if so, no...it's not free money. It's the taxes taken from your paycheck and your purchase every year. Depending on your financial situation, some people get money back and some people actually pay money back to the government.

You're also not entitled to tax returns because you don't live or work in the US. If anybody says to give them your child's SSN for them to claim on their taxes and you get the money, that's tax fraud and if you're caught, both parties will be made to pay back the money gotten and may also face jail time.

You're not supposed to have recourse to public funds on a B visa.

Hello my Fellow Nairalanders,

I made it safely to the US at 31weeks gestational period via Qatar.

I must say am most grateful to God for a wonderful experience as well as all the preparatory advice gotten from this amazing platform.

So here is a summary of my experience at Houston CBP....

I had earlier gotten a b1/b2 visa with my husband when I was 3months pregnant but didnt tell my interviewer since he didnt ask. A month later we wrote to the embassy stating a change of intention;having considered the cost and benefits of birthing our child in the US, we were more than happy to take it on and even come for a re-interview if need be. The embassy replied the next day (a generic response I believe) that we are not obliged to tell them and entry into the US is solely dependent on the CBP's discretion to ascertain we can fute our medical bills.

I got my doctor's medical fitness to fly, Qatar 1 page expectant mothers' form filled by my doctor (since i was only about 30weeks) and also the FANN fitness to fly certificate gotten at the airport for 1500 naira ( the most important evidence for your travel fitness).

Discussion with 1st CBP Officer-

Officer: Y are you here?

My Husband: To have a vacation and have our baby

Officer: Where do u intend to stay?

My husband: My brother-in-law's at..... Houston

Officer: Where do u work and how much do you have?

My Husband: just about 9000 and i work for *****

Officer: How long is your visit?

Husband: I will stay 2weeks but my wife will be here for about 4months.

Officer: Y do you want to have your baby here?

Husband: Well, I can afford it and also for better medical care.

Officer: have you had any child here?
Husband and Wife: Oh no.. This is our First child.

Officer asks for our fingerprint and tells us to stand aside.Puts our international passports in a red file and calls another Officer to take us for secondary investigation.

2nd CBP Officer invites only wife into his office:

Officer: Hello maam, how are you?
Me: Great and you?

Officer : Fine and what are you here for?
Me: for a Vacation and to have my baby.

Officer: Are you aware of the costs and all?
Me : Oh yes. We have been in touch with a Dr and a Hospital and are more than happy to go ahead with it.

Officer: Where do you intend to stay?
Me: At my Brother's

Officer: How long is ur stay?
Me: My husband will be here for 2wks and den id stay about 4months as my due date is 0ctober...

Officer:I see this is your first child, Congratulations. I mean we are happy you decided to come for your medical care here but please ensure to clear all your bills and know you are not entitled to free care or insurance. Make sure to get a Zero Balance Receipt from your doctor and hospital. Upon your next visit, you may be denied entry if you have outstanding bills or no proof of payments.

Me: Okay. Thanks

Officer: do have a great stay and once again Congratulations.

Me: Smiling... Thanks.

Officer sees me off through the door and directs me to Agric inspection point.

He didnt ask to see any document ( that was simply an angel in disguise)but just for adequate preparation, I carried:

Printed Email Correspondence from my Doctor
Receipt of Payment to the Doctor
Hospital estimated Bill
Printed Email Correspondence from the Embassy for Change of Intent
Cash( 9000 worth)
Medical Fit to travel from my Doctor
FANN Fitness Certificate
Qatar 1 page Expectant Mother's Form (Since I was less than 32 weeks and single pregnancy)

I wish all pregnant women on this journey safe arrival into the US and Safe Delivery in Jesus Name Amen.

Take care

Pepe

Hi Veleta,
In my opinion, I think most people who choose Atlanta have family/ accommodation there, as Atlanta hospitals aren't the cheapest....(otherwise one might as well just save costs by going to a cheaper city/state with lower bills and then rent a place ).
For the above reason, I suspect you may not get too many recent reviews of tips, but here's my simple suggestion/advice- Use airbnb.com ...that may be your best bet!
I stand corrected.

Hello everyone.
I'm planning on having my baby in Texas ( El paso or Oakbend,Houston) later in the year. My husband and elder sister are my sponsors, as I don't work.

Has anyone had this experience (having co-sponsors)? How do I present this at the embassy? As I know I can't move a bulk sum of money into one account. And is it advisable I go with my 2 toddlers? Thank you all!

I paid before leaving naija through Form A. It was tough at first cos they kept insisting dey dont accept international transfers. I kept calling and calling till I sha got someone who gave me their bank details and d necessary correspondence. Wasn't a fun experience at d time though.

justwise:

Still not a good idea because of the risks involved and you will struggle to get your visa renewed or even get a visa if the VO knew that you will be using birthing center.

Easy dear,
1stly, let's start with a congratulations... we are not robots here.
A child has been born, mother's life safe.,child's life was safe as well.
Carrying a child for so long & finally birthing is not a light task, so let's be a little bit more sensitive.
It's not that easy to just decide to go under the blade just like that....okay dear men in the house.

Her case is different.

Now how about when she returns to the country or even from the U.S, she orally, physically and in writing informs the embassy of what actually happened & she does so on time, early enough before het visa expires.
Letting them know how things were beyond her control...?

Thank you.

NOT TRUE, most hospital placed a ban on VBAC , it is mostly allowed in some Teaching Hospital/medical centers. Some doctors offer VBAC but cant do it cos of the hospital bans. i have several cases/research on that

I had the options of either form A or using a USD card, I'd probably do the card and avoid the hassles.
Thanks for this key info @Davsquared!

Did you use Dr V. A. as well?

Hi,

Two quick questions: are you going to be under 32 weeks at the date of travel? According to Qatar Airways, under 32 means you are actual not more than 30 weeks 6 days as 31 and 1 day is equivalent to 32. If yes, your own doctors report and Fit to Fly should suffice. If you are over, you would need to print out the MEDIF form on their website and have your Dr fill it out about 10 days to 72 hours before departure, scan it to Qatar Airways office or email (ask your agent). They will then send you their own Fit to Fly.

Please note that once you are 36 weeks, they wont carry you. And like I mentioned, 36 weeks for them is 35 + 1 etc.

When are you travelling?
