The crux of the matter is that if everybody decides to own a business who then will work in these established companies, who will help run the business. If we are all the same it will be a boring world.

That is what the wannabe entrepreneurs forget, they will need people to work 9-5 in their dream company, creating another cycle.

Tell me, won't the entrepreneurs do all it takes to keep those staff happy and productive doing 9-5 for the company?

Like you rightly said, we all can't be expected to have the same perspective in and about life.

Na for nairaland everybody be Jeff bezos and entrepreneur .

As for me , I no send entreprenuership, I do a paid job and very fine with it.

Whatever happens, I have built myself personally and intellectually to weather any storm.

Nigeria doesn't have the enabling environment for small start ups and I look at many struggling businesses and laugh.

Do u know interest rates in China and Japan is less that 5% where as commercial loans in Nigeria is more than 20% on the average.

Abegi, make entrepreneurship rest one side .

Real entrepreneurs don't talk down paid jobs because that's part of what they create. It is part of the value entrepreneurs create for the society. Any "entrepreneur" that talks down paid jobs/employees is a RAT and in Misery... check well. The enterprise isn't delivering any value, thus they talk down jobs to make themselves feel good.
Most of the peopele typing “ be your
own boss”, or “team self-employed” or quoting “your salary is the bribe given to
abandon your dream and build other people
dream” are students or sitting at home chopping Daddy or mommy food and collecting pocket money!

till we change our mentality about going from university class to 250k per month or daddy giving you 1million to start a business..

..and start thinking "work and save , then start a business part time, then go fulltime (if its successful)"..

..most Nigerians will just continue to start those failed businesses we see everywhere!

Madam there's a difference between a small scale business man and an entrepreneur. Most Nigerians don't actually know the difference. An entrepreneur Is someone who converts an existing idea to a new innovation. Businessmen are not innovative in anyway.

The fact is that the 9,-5 job is not available as new jobs are not being created. There are so many fresh graduates out there searching for these jobs, where are the jobs. That is why we need more entrepreneurs to create this jobs.

After all this epistle, you have not dampened my dreams to be my own boss. The only job I can do now for salary is lecturing. When I leave my present job. na business full time. So do your thing make I do my own. Everybody is not cut out to withstand the pressure that comes with uncertainty. Even if you win the rat race, you are still a rat. Entrepreneurs are trailblazers..
U open one small barbing salon..

Oga u are a small business owner

Entrepreneurs create

U run a small farm

Oga u are a farmer.. Many old men have more lands than u in the village

If u can't add value to businesses existing or do something new in ur line of business...

Dont call urself an entrepreneur.

It makes me laugh when I hear people bashing others who decide to work 9-5 jobs. Don’t get me wrong owning a business is great and the monetary reward are amazing. But some people like to switch off at 5 or 6pm.

Most people especially here on Nairaland, make it look as if working for someone means you are not being ambitious enough. They forget that it takes time to actually start making money from being self-employed.

Apparently so many people want to bear the name entrepreneur and rush into the ideal dream they have been nursing in their mind not knowing it entails a lot to really achieve that name entrepreneur. The most important thing in life should be doing what you love.

What I’m getting at is that not everyone wants to own a business and not everyone wants to work 9-5 jobs. We all have our purpose in life and shouldn’t make others feel bad just because their view point is different.

Some people think that been an entrepreneur is a sure way to be financially free while working for somebody means you are living a mediocre life. But that is simply a fallacy, I know business owners who are struggling to make ends meet while some salary earners are making more money in their jobs than them.

I know a lady working for a multinational firm here in Lagos who is earning 1.2million Naira a month, a job that have given her immense exposure and great confidence in her skills. I also know of another lady who owns a beauty shop with 5 staffs under her payroll but yet can’t boost of half of the first lady salary in a month. Yet some people won’t hesitate to talk down on 9-5 jobs.

We shouldn’t allow other people opinion influence our decision. If been a bus driver is your thing go for it. whether you choose to drive your own bus or work for a transport company is totally your choice and don’t let others put you down because of that. If you are not happy with your 9-5 job you can quit and do what makes you happy.

If you are taking your 9-5 job as a form of apprenticeship before starting your own business that is awesome but you shouldn’t mock others who are there for the long haul neither should you term them unambitious.

The crux of the matter is that if everybody decides to own a business who then will work in these established companies, who will help run the business. If we are all the same it will be a boring world.

People need to concentrate on themselves and worry about where they are going in life and not try to put a downer in other people happiness. Our differences are what makes this world amazing.

Henceforth, If anybody creates a thread on how to be an exceptional staff, or how to navigate normal office life or build great relationships with colleagues and bosses in the work place rather than typing “ be your own boss”, or “team self-employed” or quoting “your salary is the bribe given to abandon your dream and build other people dream” try and encourage people.

If need be, tell them how to create a dual source of income but don’t put them down because of the choices they have made.

I think I know you. You stay at Egbeda?

Honestly, this write up is the best I have read this morning. Some Persons make it look like u r a failure when it comes to this 7-5,8-5,9-5 or 8-2 jobs.

Go ask those in the Oil n gas,or Multinationals ,or Telecoms, even banks how much they earn as allowances n salaries in a month ,it would amaze u to know that many entrepreneurs or business owners don't come close to this as monthly profits as clearly stated by killerbeauty.

The Exposure, trainings, corporate experience and connections, many business owners may never get such.

As rightly stated, All man know thyself by Oracle of Delphi. Learn all you can now in your Corporate life and go become a Consultant to the same so called Entrepreneurs that would need you know-how.to help stabilize their business and pay u handsomely for your services.

Never follow the crowd, know yourself, build on your abilities, keep training your mind, stay focus. We will all get to our dream land @ the end.

That's why many of them are into fraud, scamming, kidnapping, rituals, corruption, human trafficking, drugs, robbery etc because 9-5 Jobs are beneath them and a 9-5 Job cannot make them rich overnight.

It is better to work a 9-5 Job with a small side business than become wealthy on wickedness and filthy money.

Business is only good when started and done legitimately and the wealth from this type of business takes a while to come but when it comes, it endures.
