I don't think there is any biggie here, you travel together and appear at poe as 2 different people and if peradventure you are asked if you are travelling together, you tell them yes and if you are asked to explain the relationship, you tell them as it is. Pls don't forget to travel with all relevant documents to buttress your point eg marriage certificate, divorce papers etc. I know of someone that had a similar experience (not with cbp but with the dept of state when she applied for her baby's passport )and she was asked for documents to support her claim.

Hey,
You can get ear piercing in Claire's its the cheapest place. Put the issue is baby needs shot on tetanus b4 you can get her ear pierced. The cost is free for ear piercing is the earing you pay for. For example I got mine done for $60.

Gist on the rest of my twin missionary journey, I was very lucky to get a woman at the airport to add one of my twins to her ticket and she helped me to carry them althru the journey. I called Qatar airways to change my ticket fro 4thsept to 25th aug in us but they said it will cost me 310 dollars, my hubby went to their office in Lagos and changed it with less than 50k. Thanks to all who helped with answers in the time of need especially babatwi and others, hats off to nairaland. Feel free to ask any questions esp those using elpaso

Congratulations! May God bless and keep your LOs.
El Paso mom, right here (by His grace). Visa interview next month. Tips/precautions ,words of advice would be appreciated o. I shall testify! Amen.

I would sincerely advice you to read this thread very well and take notes as you read, all the info you need is right here. I stand corrected but the only areas i suspect you might have a problem is with your sponsor since you guys are not married, how do you convince the visa officer that he is not just anybody but your partner with whom you are having a baby. I think it would be neater if your partner can deposit the funds in piecemeal into your account over a period of time.
More experienced people should pls throw more light on this pls.

I think you should just send the notification of intent letter to fulfill all righteousness even though you weren't pregnant when you did dropbox. Just go fully prepared with all the necessary documents and enough cash to show at poe and you'll be good.

Long post alert...........

Have been on naira land student and visitor thread. Just found this thread and am loving it. A bit slow at work today. I just decided to share my experience here. A bit old (2013) but can still help or encourage someone especially the single ones.

I went for the US interview at 5 months pregnant but didn’t mention I was pregnant. I applied as a single woman cos I wasn’t legally married (traditionally married). Was actually going for a friend’s wedding in California. When I traveled for the wedding, I went through Houston as I have family there.
I got a female Cameroonian doctor (very lovely and professional). Her fee was $3000 and I paid her in full and got a receipt and a letter to come back at 34 weeks. I got in touch with West Houston Medical Centre and paid vaginal delivery fee($2500). Collected my receipt. I also opened an account with bank of America. I went back to Nigeria to get ready. I left Nigeria at 34 weeks, I had my parents transfer $6k to my account because I didn’t trust my now EX that told me to go that he would be sending money.
POE experience-Houston
I wasn’t looking pregnant because of the emotional stress I was going though. Couldn’t eat and my Nigerian doctor had already told me my baby wasn’t growing well.

Officer- HI, how are you?
Me- am good and you?
Officer- you visited in august?
Me—yes I did. This was in October
V Officer- how long are you here for?
Me- about 3 months
Officer- why
Me- because I will have a baby here
Officer-why in America and how much do you have?
Me- because of better healthcare (this reason didn’t start today oh). I have $1k cash and $6k in my BOA account. I have also made the necessary payment to both the doctor and the hospital. I brought out my receipt but he wasn’t interested in looking at it.
Officer- I will send you to one of my colleagues to verify your documents.
Me- ok. Sure thanks.
I got into a room filled with preggys like me and others. Got to my turn.
Officer- have you made any payment to the hospital and doctor and can I have the papers?
Me- yes and I gave him.
Officer- please take a seat
Me-thanks. I guess he went to verify from the hospital and doctor.
Came back after 30minutes and asked if I had extra money on me. Told him I had money in BOA and 1k cash.
Officer- do you have family here?
Me- yes I do and I will be staying with my aunt
Officer- is baby’s father coming?
Me- my mother would be coming. (I wasn’t sure my Ex would be coming)
Officer- enjoy your stay and stamped 6 months.
I proceeded to inspection. I had all my indomie chicken removed. I took the airport shuttle to my aunt’s place. Cheaper than using a taxi but time consuming cos they will drop people off according to addresses.
And my ordeal starts
I called my Ex to tell him I had gotten to US and would call when I get a sim. I called the next day and he didn’t pick. Didn’t pick my call again and I knew I was alone. I was going for my checkup but the doctor kept insisting that my baby was small. I couldn’t eat. Fast forward, I couldn’t go into labor. Was booked for an induction. After 3 failed induction and my baby’s heart rate dropping, I was told to get ready for an emergency CS. The induction process was a night mare. I give kudos to women. My CS was a success. No pain for me cos I think the emotional pain I had suppressed the physical pain. My baby was in NICU for about a week cos she had a low birth weight. As all these was happening, I was wondering how I would pay the bills I was accumulating cos I wasn’t sure of hearing from my now EX again. At the end of it all I was given a bill of about $13,000. I tried to reach a payment plan with them. They spilt the bill into 3 and told me to pay within 6 months. I couldn’t pay anything cos at that time I knew I would be a single mother and told them I would be making payments at my own speed and won’t mind paying interest or any charges.
Came back to Nigeria and didn’t contact the hospital again as I was going through separation with a baby. Found myself in Canada as a student in 2014. Was lucky to work 4 months (about 70 hours a week-wasn’t beans) during summer and saved a lot of money with the savings I had already. I prayed and fasted and did several novenas. My friend that had an alarming bill got a good discount from the same hospital. After prayers, I took a leap of faith and contacted the hospital.
Operator-How can I help?
Me- I had my baby in 2013. Due to personal reasons I couldn’t pay off the outstanding bill at that point and I would want to know the bill I have? I gave him our names and patient number. I also told him a bit of my ordeal.
Operator- Wow. I applaud your courage. A lot of people won’t call back. Thank you. Madam, can I put you on hold and talk to my manager and see if we can offer you a discount?
Me- Sure. Thank you. After about 15 minutes (I was firing prayers within me)
Operator- Madam, I can see you made the initial delivery payment and also the doctor’s fee, the hospital is ready to offer about 70%. If you pay today, I can offer additional 15% and you would be paying a total of about $2,300 usd.
Me- I couldn’t believe my ears. Please take my card number.
Operator- Thank you Madam, we would be sending your zero balance letter to the address on file.
I kept disturbing my cousins to check their mailbox cos I still didn’t believe it and eventually my letter arrived and was sent to me. I didn’t bother renewing my US visa till I sorted out my bills. 2 months after, I went to the US embassy in Vancouver. I was told I was eligible for drop box. The lady I gave my passport checked the system and asked why I stayed in the US for 5 months.
VO- why where you in the US for 5 months?
Me- I had a baby.
VO- did you pay your bills?
Me- yes I did and I gave her all the receipts and the zero balance letter.
VO- wow you got a huge discount, why?
Me- it’s a long story but yes I got a huge discount.
VO- wonder why you guys flock the US. Canada has a better and cheaper health care.
ME- most of us don’t know and we both laughed. That was It., I noticed she was typing everything we were saying.
I have been going back and forth to the US from Canada and have never been asked for receipt at POE. I guess her notes took care of it.

That’s my story. Life has been wonderful. God has been good.

Unfelt:
After 5 years of trying for a baby, taking hormonal drugs that clearly affect her monthly cycle u think the first thing that will come to her mind when she misses a period is to take a pregnancy test?? who died and made you the the pregnancy police?? with PCOS some women do not even see their periods for months nd months....So how can u, with no knowledge of her fertility history call her/him a liar Now, i ask, if you go around insulting and judging people like this," what does the future hold for home trainings & the country"

Unfelt please stop being dramatic...10 weeks in June can never have a due date in November 2017.
This is not a pregnancy police anything....

The house was given information, how do you want help with that kind of info...

The people that like your statement may not know the story which a few persons commented on the hard to believe story....

No matter the years a woman has tried to conceive, or the irregular periods she has had, she cannot be 10 weeks in June and due to deliver in November...

That's the thing.
We really Thank God that she has taken in & congratulate the family but the info you gave is hard to work with.

Did any real tangible advice on what to tell the visa officer or POE, come out for your story

No.
So please

I have someone that was 11 weeks before the month of June even started and the due date is later than November 2017.

So please....even if you did a scan, they will tell you how many weeks your baby was then irrespective of prior irregular periods...

10 weeks in June just does not add up to deliver in November...unless they are multiples but they will not tell you November still...they let multiples stay inside as long as possible.

Guys can we just cut this like right now.

I conceived my first 5years ago in March and had him November 30th...so no big deal. The poster came here for advice not for us to analyze her pregnancy et all. If she says 10 weeks in June and EDD November...SO BE IT!....Tailor your advice to suit her question.PERIOD!

Dear we are talking about an EDD not if your baby came before the EDD...

Read the story and advice the person please what they should tell either the Visa Officer or POE...

Abeg....we are not talking about when you delivered but we are talking about the information they gave the visa officer... that got them the visa and now they were confused on what to tell the officers incase they asked when they get to the U.S

So this is not about when you delivered but the info and story that was told while asking for advice...
Please I know Nigeria has a way to go but which hospital in Nigeria tells a woman that she is 10 weeks in June and is due in November?

How can we defend the person's story??

Abeg read the story and advice...

I travelled with knorr both to the US and Canada and I didn't have any problem. I ground my egusi, ogbono, crayfish, ogili and all. I think it all depends on who is inspecting you. My cousin had her crayfish seized because she ground it and my friend had her seized because she didn't grind it. Just do what you want. It differs.

We intend to do the interview for next month while he puts the money in my account gradually before then. I have been reading through and though people talk about the doctors' correspondence and hospital details. how do I get this? because I think I would need it for my visa application. I hope I get it because I just want a better life for my child.

I think the first step is to chose a location where you want to have this baby and start researching on it. You can start by typing the location on the search space above and further narrow it down to travel section and see if you can find people that have had their babies in that town or city and read their experiences, get hospital names, doctors names and Google and send pm's for their contacts and start sending them mails for cost of delivery. You can also research outside this forum by asking Google. Eg Obstetricians and Gyneologists in Houston. All the best.

Hi all, I landed New York few hours ago through JFK airport. The queue was long but had already requested for wheel chair few days to my departure from Lagos and it really helped. The only 2 questions the CBP officer asked was What I do for a living and what I'm in the United States for. and I answered him that I'm here for child birth. No further questions and he stamped me 6 months with B1 circled. I spent less than 1 minute with him. I wasn't sent to agriculture and declared more than $10k. I thought it was supposed to be B2 stamp.
I want to relax a bit and board my connecting flight later today.
God is forever grateful because he answered my prayers.

Hello kokorita -

You have two options. Your first option, and my recommendation, is to apply for a visa without using dropbox, have an interview, and disclose your current intent to have childbirth in the US during the interview. This is the safest option, as your intent will then be documented in the system, and you are much less likely to be turned away at the Port of Entry while heavily pregnant after the expense and the long flight to the US. Your second option is to continue with the dropbox visa that you have, and bring all the necessary documents to the Port of Entry. CBP has the authority to allow you into the US at the Port of Entry based on a valid B1/B2 visa and your documents, and some people are succesfull in doing this. Some are not.

I want to emphasize this point, as I see it being discussed here often. Sending a "change of intent letter" has no effect. It does not go into the file or into the casenotes, it does not get to CBP in any way. The only way to ensure that your changed intent is documented is to apply for a new visa and have a new interview.

Hello, you don't necessarily need a Nigerian passport in order to bring your baby to Naija. You can get a Naija visa from a Nigerian consulate near you or apply for a visa on arrival. For visa on arrival, find below the procedure.
N/B: when applying for Visa on Arrival remember to attach the data page of both parents
