Tammy Abraham: Striker commits to England amidst reports of Nigeria switch 21 September 2017 Football

Striker Tammy Abraham has stated his desire to have an international career with England following reports of interest from Nigeria.

London-born Abraham, on loan at Swansea from Chelsea, has played for England Under-21s but has a Nigerian father.

And the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) were thought to be keen to recruit the 19-year-old.

However, Abraham said: "I have informed The FA that I remain available for selection for England."

He continued: "Contrary to reports in the media I would like to clarify that I have not agreed to switch my national team allegiance.

"I can confirm I met the President of the NFF after our last game against Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday given he is a friend of my father.

"However, any suggestion that I have made a decision to change my international representation is incorrect and wide of the mark."

His words will be welcomed by Swansea boss Paul Clement, who believes he would be better off remaining with England.

"Hopefully he stays with the English national team," Clement said.

"I'm not sure if he'd be better off career-wise - I'm saying it because I'm English and he's a good English talent, so you want him involved in the national team.

Nigeria keen to lure Abraham from EnglandHolders Man Utd drawn away to SwanseaCardiff pedigree strengthens Euro bid

"From my point of view, there will be no influence from me.

"If he wants to ask for advice, of course I'll be there to do it, but I'm sure, between him and his family, he'll make the right decision."

NFF President Amaju Pinnick says that after a meeting with Abraham and his agent "all is looking good" for him to play for Nigeria.

Chelsea wing-back Victor Moses, Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi and Reading striker Sone Aluko are among those to have represented England at youth level before switching to play senior international football for Nigeria.

Two goals in seven Swans games

Abraham joined Swansea from Chelsea on a season-long loan in the summer and has scored two goals in seven appearances for the Welsh club.

"I haven't spoken to him about that [interest from Nigeria]. I will ask him at some point, but I've got more pressing issues to deal with at the moment than that," said Clement.

"Ultimately it's the decision of the player. In some cases they'll make the choice because they see a better opportunity, a chance of playing more regularly at international level.

"In other cases, it's because it's where they believe they're from, representing the country where they were born or where their parents were born and it's in their culture.

"Whatever their reasons are, it's down to the player to decide."

Goodjoe I understand how you feel about negative football but truth is if parking the bus would take us to Russia so be it. When we get to Russia we would open the bus. If Cameroun had parked the bus in the Uyo game perhaps things would have been different.
With Zambia we should be daring and precise in front, enterprising in the middle and impenetrable at the back.

so where are the special gems in the league, am sure you are not refering to eze and adeleye...

the year enyimba won the champions league they had the best players in the league from the goal keeping to the striking department, no matter thow bad a team prepare or disorganised they are, if you have quality players it will definitely show in the way you play.
i insist that presently our league is quite poor, we dont have qualities anymore in the league...

Enyimba had a good team after good scouting and aggregating some of the best talents in the country. Without that, those same players can be scattered in different clubs and people will not know that they are quality. You gerrit?

Good... then let the English keep Rashford and let Tammy be naa.... looolll... abi no be so? cheesy

Tammy's career has always been about goals at every level from the youth teams to The English U-19s to English U-21s to The English Championship and now in the EPL on loan at modest Swansea... Lad is goals himself. If Rashford had his goal scoring stats they will call him Pele.... lol...

Rashford has done okay to make the headlines... nothing spectacular of note. When Nacho was even bossing things as the EPL's deadliest forward, the English Media didn't talk much about it. They just turned their eyes but if that was Rashford... my goodness... hyperbole would have been redefined. #Fact

So since The English got Rashford... they got nothing to worry about naa... this just shows their hypocrisy.

P.S: Dele Alli na special case. England lacks a good CAM now outside Alli.... even Barkley is dual national (has some Nigerian blood thru his granny i think) but is more English and Alli trumps him. Since Lampard and Gerrard retired... no other midfielder comes close to their quality except Alli. So the English had no choice and Alli will surely keep shining for England... in fact he is their best player before you name Harry Kane sef.

Not some granny link. Barkley's dad is Nigerian. Peter Effanga. I think Barkley changed his surname due to issues with his dad.

how can you cite Dele Alli as someone who is no fully English?

The minute you agree to play internationally for any country, you are fully from there. Dele Alli is as fully English as Iwobi and Moses are fully Nigerian

Please, never mention Dele as an example in this kind of thing.

And once again, Rashford's hype is because he is fully English. Tammy BROKE A RECORD in the Championships last season, do you think he would have been sent on loan if he was fully English? Has Rashford broken any record anywhere?

If Tammy was Fully British, he would have been USHERED into Chelsea's first team this season and nobody would buy Morata. The press would have slaughtered Conte for sending him out on loan

Why are you talking as if you are unaware of the politics in British football? As I dey read this your Tammy vs Rashford argument, e dey pain me.

Rashford is not better than Tammy. Put Rashford in that Swansea team and let's see how awesome he is, switch places and let's see if Tammy will not equal Lukaku's record by now

oh, puleasee!

Dele Alli could have played for us - there was that option and him opting to represent the English football team doesn't automatically cut off his Nigerian roots.

Don't forget, Conte had to get rid of Costa and went on to bring Morata and sent about 28 others on loan.

With Chelsea, I can't really say much about the politics involved. How many players, Tammy's age are in the Chelsea team at the moment. Conte doesn't really fancy giving youth players that much opportunity to showcase themselves, at least with what I've seen so far.

PS: I never said Rashford was better than Tammy, I said Rashford had done just enough to trend in the press.

Tammy should realise that they will throw him under a bus if they have to at any point, at least Nigerians love their diaspora babies. Ask Moses, Iwobi, Balogun and Ekong

I wish he can follow that line of thinking.

Nigeria looking to recruit Everton and Liverpool stars

Scott Morris
By Scott Morris
on Thursday, September 21, 2017
Continuing momentum
Nigeria officials are looking to continue their recruitment drive after securing the allegiance of Chelsea star Tammy Abraham.

That will come in the form of two stars on Merseyside, Ademola Lookman and Dominic Solanke who both have Nigerian heritage.

The nation are looking to snap up youngsters in the English setup and convince them to switch to Nigeria to boost their international hopes.

Having already convinced Victor Moses and Alex Iwobi over the years, Nigeria officials are set to win the battle to sign Tammy Abraham after talks.

The player has a very bright future in the game and is currently on loan at Swansea to gain some Premier League experience.

Now, following Abraham’s switch, Ademola Lookman and Dominic Solanke are next on the list in what could be a huge coup.

Lookman is looking impressive for Everton at the moment despite his lack of full games but is a very promising talent nonetheless.

The forward scored a brilliant goal against Tottenham U23’s in the youth sides and was given a chance off the bench against Sunderland on Wednesday.

Dominic Solanke is also in a similar position to Lookman following his move from Chelsea to Anfield.

The Liverpool man impressed in pre-season and has played some games for Liverpool but not as many as he would have liked.

Regardless, Nigerian officials will have pulled off a huge coup if they are able to convince the two players to switch allegiances from England to Nigeria.

Tammy will play for us. Trust me, if I were Tammy I would say the same.. it's too early to be in the English media for that 'bad' reason. He doesn't need that distraction. Meanwhile the application process with FIFA will continue. Abi do we think the boy will do against the wish of his family.

England are already putting pressure on him, the best way to calm all this is to say he is still in allegiance with England. shekina

My brother that's the pressure you and I are talking about. He and his family are not stupid. Did the calls come before now?
It's too much pressure for the lad.. they need to calm the situation and silence all those talks in the media. And he has already done the needed, by saying he is available for England. Nothing is official yet, more like a transfer situation. At the end of the day he needs to answer to the English press, and deal with the English public, and not the Nigerian press or Nigerians. So he handled the situation well. Now he can focus on his club football.

Will England call him? Will he honor? Let's wait and see

Anyhow shaa... Wishing Man Utd the best the season... I reckon you guys will be top contenders for the EPL title alongside Man City and Chelsea. I see this as a three way fight for now. And hey I do rate Rashford but I just cannot deny also the hands of the English hype machine of the English Media. I sabi them wella.... lol... okay now... watch.. Gabby Jesus is currently the EPL's deadliest forward followed by Aguero and then Iheanacho based on Goals per mins ratio so far for players who have scored 10 goals or more but a very good percentage of the English media will hardly talk about it because He is at Man City and not Man Utd... England's favorite traditional club. It is just how things are now Sir. cheesy

But hey all the best to Man Utd... wink

Hehehe, you got me figured out uh?

I quite agree with you about Manutd being favorites - The queen factor. wink

I'm not taking anything away from Tammy though, but I don't see Conte as someone who puts much faith in youngsters like Tammy.

I believe if Tammy is given a chance at Chelsea, he can challenge Rashford for a spot with the 3-lions (if he so chooses)

I don't think his performance at the championship would count for much.

I'm hoping for both our sakes he has a good season with Swansea.

Anyways, I hope we have a good season, we've spent much already and wouldn't want to remain underachievers.

You wanna put aside sentiments when sentiments is all England uses to rate their black players? Rashford is at a traditional club like Man Utd and to top it he is Fully English.... and a strong percentage of the English media is almost always Pro-Man Utd... so why do you think Rashford get all the hypes?? So biko... sentiments follow for Rashford joor. It is not even debatable. wink

And there are some coaches who will definitely pick Tammy over Rashford. Lol....

Even when Nacho was outshining Rashford in stats in less game time did the English media agree that Nacho is the better quality player? abegiii... Rashford's relevance today in the media is based on hypes thanks to the well oiled English media hype machine.

I know the oil company.... they are 1st class higher in world ranking for hyperology.
