I was struck when I saw this post by a lecturer (prof). Prof was marking his student's seminar and felt something was wrong about the dedication because the student acknowledged his supposed 'sweetheart.' What is your take on this? Is anything really wrong with the student's character as the prof has pointed out or the prof was being too extreme and religious?

I wish assessors would focus on the technical content of theses and stop wasting time on inanities.
As a rule, other than grammar, I let students do as they please with their dedication /acknowledgement (unless they really go overboard of course).

sometimes I get perplexed and in awe the reasons behind the attitude of some lecturers or professors. sometimes they behave like demigod.

Each of us are motivated by something, if it was his bae that motivated him to do well in school, so be it, it ain't anybody's business besides my prof your job is to identify syntactic and semantic errors and for the student to improve and correct it, not to question whoever he wants to acknowledge.

Funny story. A friend visited from the US and visited a secondary school where he saw a teacher seriously berating a student for writing out an assignment in pencil. He asked the student (probably inspired by my friend's presence) if he thought he could do that rubbish in the US. My friend smiled to himself and quickly made himself scarce before he was forced to contribute. Why? Because is he had, he would have told the teacher that in the US, they didn't care how the hell the assignment was written out, as long as the teacher could make out and assess what was written (or drawn for that matter!).
