I remember that I was very depressed when I heard that he had been shot. There are some legends that you'd believe would live forever and so it's a huge shock when you hear about their death.

I haven't heard this song in a very long time (it's almost as if I'm rediscovering it) and it just occurred to me that Michael Jackson borrowed elements of this song for several of The Jacksons' songs and also for his solo songs (for example "Let's dance and shout, what's up? What it's all about!" became "Let's dance and shout! Shake your body down to the ground). It seems that Michael was also a fan of his.

It's impossible to find the full studio version of this song on YouTube, so I'm going to post 3 videos. The first video (which is hosted on DailyMotion) contains the full studio version of the song, but it's taken from SoulTrain. The second video (which is hosted on YouTube) contains just the beginning of the song. The third video contains a live performance of the full extended version of the song. It's absolutely wonderful.

O MY GOD! I HAVE FOUND IT!

I HAVE FOUND IT!

This is a momentous occasion, an epoch making event.

I am not mad! The song actually exists!

After 20 years of searching, I have finally found it!

I'm so happy, I could faint!

That's from the 1980s. I remember when it was released. It was in the soundtrack of Breakdance - The Movie (also known in known in Nigeria as Ozone and Turbo).

I'm trying to restrain myself. I'm tempted to flood this thread with disco music (instead of soul).

There was a giant stack of vinyl records that were bought between 1978-1985. I think I can still remember all of them. I'm going to post all of them (well, as many as I can. I've already posted One Early Morning) and I'm going to start with disco songs.

Ladies and gentlemen, the disco is open.

This is exactly the way I sang this song in the late 1970s and early '80s.

(It's a violin on the track, but in real life it's my voice). God I love violins! That's one of the main reasons I love disco music.

These next two acts were my favourite acts of that era. In fact, there was a debate in my house over which was better. I won't tell you what side I was on.

This song is absolutely perfect. There is not a single flaw in it. It is the most perfect song that I know. Everything was perfect. From the arrangement (Quincy Jones is a genius!) to the video, the tuxedo (I wanted that tuxedo), basically everything was perfect.

This song was my introduction to Michael Jackson (the solo artist). Yeah, I had heard ABC and all the other songs, but this was my proper introduction to Michael Jackson.

This song was released during the disco era and I absolutely love disco music. The strings were out of this world.

Mary J Blige's Alright video was inspired by this video.

You know, I was,
I was wondering, you know
If you could keep on,
Because the force,
It's got a lot of power,
And it make me feel like (ah),
It make me feel like. . .
Ooh!

Keep on,
With the force, don't stop.
Don't stop til you get enough.

I couldn't get a studio quality recording, but this live performance should suffice.

This song was covered by the Plantashun Boyz in the early 2000s.

My dad went to Moscow for the Olympics in 1980 and there were two fantastic things about that. First, I was free for almost a whole month! Secondly, he came back with many amazing gifts.

One of the things he came back with was an album of Russian rock songs and one of the songs on that album was a cover of this song (in Russian).

So here's the original and then the Russian version.

Boney M - Never Change Lovers In The Middle Of The Night (1978).

Yes! Yes! Yes! I've found it!

Or, I'm closer to finding it.

A few months ago (or was it a year ago? )I posted about some songs that I've been trying to find since forever and how I thought that I might never find them again. Well, I underestimated myself.

Old Man attended the 1980 Olympics in Moscow and came back with a lot of souvenirs. One of the souvenirs was what I assumed was the official album of the games. It had a lot of delightful russian songs and there was one rock n roll song in particular, that I really liked. I've been searching for it forever. It's been difficult because all the writing on the album sleeve was in cyrillic script, so I didn't know the name of the songs, album and band.

Well, I was listening to the radio a few minutes ago and I heard a song that reminded me of Bonny M's Never Change Lovers In The Middle Of The Night. As you know, Bonny M was one of my favourite groups in the 1970s and we had all of their albums.

Then I remembered that the 1980 Russian album had a cover of that song. So I went to Google and searched for Never Change Lovers In The Middle Of The Night 1980 Moscow and I found it!

The name of the group is Vesyolye Rebyata and the title of the album is We Should Be Friends.

I haven't yet found the particular rock n roll song that I'm looking for, but here is their cover of Never Change Lovers In The Middle Of The Night. Someone took the original Boney M video (from 1978) and added the audio from Vesyolye Rebyata (1980 in russian).
