Good day good people, I never gave furthering my studies abroad a thought cos I perceive my CGPA cannot guarantee me admission into a good school in the USA, Until a friend of a friend who graduated with a 3rd class got admitted into a good USA University this year with TA.

Pls good people I know Google is my friend but information is key, someone might just know the precise school that's ideal for my profile.
ELECTRICAL and ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING
CGPA: 3.30/5.0

I plan on writing both GRE and TOEFL by January, and I might ace the GRE cos the quant section feels like a walk in the park to me. Bosses in the house pls recommend schools with FEB 1 as deadline for funding for fall 2018 if I could still make it, cos age is not on my side, and if otherwise recommendations are still welcome .... Thanks
Abeg make una no dodge this question like a plague, ur answers might go a long way pls.

I came in on F1 visa and resumed school this fall, but I want to stop and resume elsewhere fall 2018.

I intend going back to Nigeria this Christmas but a bit uncertain on what to do for 8 whole months before next fall session. You know I already resigned from my job when I left Nigeria. Is it okay to stay back in US and do an internship for 6 months and then go back for the visa process? Do I need a j1 visa?

My current f1 visa expires 2019, do I need to go through the visa application process again if I am resuming in another school? I am not transferring this semester grades to the new school, it will be a fresh start for a different program next year. How should I go about it?

You finished your bachelor's 20 years and you obviously haven't used it at all with respect to a career... so why should the VO believe that you really want to spend 2 years in an Agronomy masters program for career advancement? An MBA is better, even at that... you might find it difficult convincing them why an MBA is now useful to you after 20 years.

Looool! All I can see from her post is an intended immigrant trying to use the student visa as a means to achieve it cool

No offence sir, but over 90%of the people on this thread are intending immigrants in the guise of students. before you say I am wrong, how many people on this thread have come back to NG after their studies?

You're already out of status the minute you stop attending school full time so it is not possible to do an internship anywhere... you'd be working illegally. That alone is enough to ensure you won't get another F1 visa. The expiration date of your current F1 visa only holds meaning as long as you are attending the school that is printed on your visa stamp.

Secondly, should you quit this program and appear for another F1, your chances are much slimmer as it shows that you really aren't that interested in schooling. It is assumed that you took great care to obtain admission to this school, so what happened that changed your mind after just a few months?

Doc, as i advised earlier... pick at least 3 schools - 1 ivy league and 2 mid tier (but still very well respected schools). The goal is to give yourself a buffer should you lose out on your ivy league school. The N140K you intend to spend will be a worthy investment a few years down the road so don't worry about it now.

Since you're a medic, the GRE subject test may be easier for you. You may want to consider acing this... it will absolutely give you an edge in the application process.

That's because there are thousands of schools in the US. Expecting someone to go searching for a school that meets your criteria... while you sit here twiddling your thumbs, is unserious.

Exactly so if you can see through me already I wonder how it will look like to the VO, that's actually why I've been delaying my application, so which way forward, if any at all?

The question is why shouldn't you? A man that has no dream is a dead man, in life nothing is certain. All you can do is always do your part and hope for the best. However applying to one school is not advisable even if the acceptance rate is 80%. Just like T wood said, look for other good schools to apply to and see this as an investment that you will reap one day. All the best.

I didnt get into my course of choice. It was conditional upon passing an exam in school and I didnt. So had to opt for another course; but I have decided to start afresh, I am very interested in schooling.
Also if I want to do an internship, I will have to apply for j1 right? I dont want illegal work, its why I am asking to get better info now. Just trying to know what options I have.
I wish its easy to get internship in Nig, would have started applying. Being jobless for 6-7 months wont be easy.

Or is it better completing the session spring 2018 and move to another school for fall?

What changes do I need to make then? Just i20 or together with SEVIS?

Yes but If any particular person is stated on your i20 as the source of funds, then you have to provide that person's SOA. However, if it's just stated family fund, then you can use any family member (dad, mum, uncle etc)

Lol! Wake up bro. You are only given a privilege to study in the best and biggest country in the world. US has been existing before you and would still be after you! They don't need us, they giving us the privilege to be better when you can prove yourself as a genuine student!

Na wa for this response.

Sir trust me, I've been doing my home work, looking for answers from gradschool, us news , Quora, profile evaluator, meet University and the likes. But one might not be privy to the precise info required in my case, for instance the priority deadline for international students for UFL is December 15 if I'm not mistaken, but my friend who is already in the school told me not to go by that info as I can still apply before on or before January 15 and still get waivers, so it's all about first hand information.

Depending on your plans.....if you need the masters or phd just as a stepping stone to later move on to residency for me ooo.... there no need paying that money for ivy league . I go to the cheapest school as most people i have seen with that plan never end up using the degree

I beg to defer . . .... there is no age limit to a degree like a master degree or an MBA . The more important thing is been able to explain clearly why you want to do now and what value it will add to you.

Even here i have seen a 28 year who was given visa for first degree .

Based on the bold then it would be very difficult to convince a Vo to give you another chance with F1 through Nigeria

I dont know what options are left but this appears to be a tough wall to climb

Just curious, what do you mean by they don't use the degree? After Ivy league, they got jobs that are not applicable to the degree or they went into business?

I beg to differ. As a doc, he has plenty of opportunities. He can get into molecular biology, translational medicine, pathology, pharmacology, epidemiology and public health... phd programs in top tier schools here. He is almost guaranteed to get 100% fellowships (once accepted, you get a free ride to school and get paid at least $28,000 per year in stipends)... he can do this for 2 years, and get a masters - while sitting for his residency exams. He can then cross over to a residency program. Why waste your time with a cheap degree when you can get a solid degree in an ivy league that will make your residency resume even more attractive? A lot of US medical students take time off to obtain masters/phd programs in research that really boost their resumes. That's why you find a lot of MD/Phd dual degree holders in big league university hospitals - they are doctors that are also heavily involved in research. My own brother did this before starting his residency and it was of tremendous benefit to him. I am very reticent to this mentality of just looking for the cheapest path of least resistance to everything when you can certainly strive for excellence.

I would argue that bro should think about what specific area he wants to specialize in for his residency, then seek out researchers working in that area, contact them directly with his plans.
