Goodmorning Guys,

This thread has been very helpful i must confess. I was interviewed yesterday morning and i got the VISA. So here is a little way to give back and say thank you. First of all i want to say a big thank you to everyone who comes back here from time to time to drop their transcript, a big thank you to OMOLUABI for the series of mock, also to my whatsapp nairaland group members, especially Dupsaw and Therighteous for their own mock interviews and advice too. It felt like a small family with you guys and i pray that every member of our whatsapp group gets their visas as well.

Ok, i left my Ikoyi apartment around 4.15am, i said my final prayers, ordered for taxify and by 4.30am i was at the embassy. I was the first person to arrive and it felt super cool, infact it felt like i won a medal LOL. I actually wore my best suit, best shoes, and i was looking all corporate, and i felt so confident. I had already read here to ignore those embassy touts, so i didnt even pay any attention. People started arriving at about 5am and by 6am the embassy was filled up.

I did try as much as possible to maintain my front area position, fast forward to 6.30am, two officers came out from the embassy and told us to form a queue, chai some fast guys took my front position. Anyways i was amongst the first batch and i did all the necessary finger prints and i was later directed to the white guy at Desk 1.I noticed some mistakes that some people made that i will like to address; when you get to the embassy, dont go about making new friends, gisting and hanging around, it may cause you some distraction, just focus on the mission at hand, also dress sense is also important as your appearance counts alot, for the Men, try to get a clean haircut and a clean shave, remove all those beards, dress in a manner that the VO will be convinced that you are a responsible fellow, dont come wearing some canvas and looking hipy, or some random outfit, for the ladies too dress like someone who is going to a higher institution for professional studies.

My transcript goes thus-

VO- Goodmorning
ME- Goodmorning Sir

VO- Kindly pass me your I-20 and passport please.
ME- Have it Sir.

VO- So i can see you are going to Sulross state university for your Masters degree in business administration?
ME- Yes, i am going to Sulross state university at Alpine in texas for my MBA.

VO- Why the career change from Agricultural Economics to Business Management?
ME- While i was in the university i realised that i had a strong passion for discovering and promoting young entrepreneurs, and also organising
events. I have discovered and promoted over 300 startup brands here in Nigeria so upon graduation i realised that this was what i wanted
to do for the rest of my life.

VO- (Now he looks straight at me in the eyes and i starred back at him) So how will an MBA help you in this choosen career?
ME- The MBA will help me in acquiring the needed professional skills for a successful business career. It will also
help me to learn and network with a diverse class of people who would have come from different parts of the world.

VO- Did you apply to any other school?
ME- Yes, i also applied to Texas A&M University at Commerce.

VO- Did you get in?
ME- Yes i was also admitted.

VO- So why Sulross?
ME- (He stares at me again) Well, i had been in close contact with *chai i forgot the professors name ooo so i came up with a name* Dr Bleep she
heard about what i have been able to achieve with my startup business here in Nigeria and she has agreed to offer me mentorship to
inorder to become a better business Man (thanks to Dupsaw for that line). Also Sulross state university is very affordable for a state
university and considering the quality of education they offer.

VO- Did you write any tests?
ME- Yes, i wrote TOEFL and GRE.

VO- What did you score?
ME- Toefl 82, GRE 281

VO- Who is sponsoring?
ME- My Dad.

VO- What does he do?
ME- He sells and import cars and he is also into real estate.

VO- Do you have any statement to show you have enough funds for your first year?
ME- Yes. *sharp sharp i brought out all the documents, na em i com dey find the statement oooo, lol cos i had printed out my personal bank
statement and that of my business, so i had about 3 different statements, the Man was actually waiting patiently for me. I later found my
Fathers statement hiding under one of the documents. He looked through for about 15 secs.

VO- He picked a white paper from his table, circled my pickup location. He didnt even say i will be approving your visa like i read from other
transcripts, he just said so you can pick up your visa in three days time, honestly, i didnt hear all the other things he was saying
afterwards.
ME- Thanks alot Sir. God bless. I packed all the scattered documents and i left.

Once i came out of the exit door, i looked up to the sky, i felt connected to the Lord at that moment and i felt he gave me a BIG smile back, i said "Thank you Lord". So i am going to the AMERICA grin

The Lord did it and i give him all the glory. I really practiced so hard for this, it reminded me of how much i prepared during those years i was writing ICAN back in uni cheesy

I wish you guys all the best.

You can drop your phone number if you need mock. x

Visa almost approved today but was delayed because of a silly mistake I made.
The visa officer asked me the date that I took GRE and I gave him a wrong month saying July/11/2017 as against June/11/2017.
I can't but laugh at myself for my stupidity and school is resuming January 10.

You are bitter because you are misinformed and you are about to misinform others.

It was on the 20th of this month that you had no clue what BY MAFIT was only to claim today, 9 days after, that you registered with them for 2 weeks.

Secondly, registering with them entails more than just filling a form. It is after you have paid that you are deemed fully registered and then they can book a date for you.

Third, by August, GRE dates in Lagos had filled such that it was hard getting dates for November at JKK. I know someone who got Dec 1 from as far back as August. GRE dates fill pretty quickly in Lagos. I am totally unsurprised that you could not get any dates in Dec except you are outside Lagos.

Instead of talking through the red mist (which you are currently doing), call them ASAP and table your complaints. Sending emails may not be as effective - you are dealing with Nigerians.

And don't be too inflexible about that extended date they gave you. You were still asking if Kaplan would suffice for a robust GRE prep. Those of us who know what the GRE entails, know that you were going to Uber-bang the exams with Kaplan and the short practice time.

So see this delay as a blessing.

PS: any scathing half-assed reply will be ignored.

i guess you are one of the staffs at Mafits
and may be you are the one that misinformed me 9 days ago.
How can you be talking like this
may be you should help me call them or e mail them?having travelled 4 times from a far state based on this issue.
The earlier part of your comment is deemed being AWOL! Or did i pay through your pocket?

Anyway Thanks .

Meanwhile, why do you want him to lie, when he can actually get his Visa by saying the truth?
I can tell you that I have read all the transcripts here via the links available. I have not seen any like that. You can prove me wrong though.

I am not a member of staff of BY MAFIT nor am I affiliated with them. I don't even know what their office building looks like.

Your case is particularly appalling because you are considering a PhD but you are showing a glaring lack of research on your part.

The numbers to call are on their website. Since you are dealing with unprofessionals why don't you be calm in explaining your situation to them? All this hot air you are blowing will only damage the atmosphere around you.

And your GRE getting to your prospective school maximum of 4 days late is not the end of the world. If you want to prove you are cut out for this PhD, then email the Grad coord of your dept to prepare them and enquire if it could hurt your admission chances.

The staggering fact is, submitting a bad GRE before the closing date will still hurt your chances - and I kid you not, you were ebbing towards that.

Would you rather submit 270+ on the 10th or 315+ on the 14th? Your guess is as good as mine.

And BTW, getting accepted into PhD programs especially in Ivy League schools are almost GRE-dependent. This is because they have filters in-place that will most likely thrash and shred any app with a comparatively low GRE score. So this extra days given to you might just be a blessing in disguise.

The person who forewarned you, forearmed you. You should be grateful not waffling.

Enough said.

On the contrary, my aim is spot-on. He is crying foul when he has not been tackled. Of course, I am not excusing their unprofessionalism. But randomly checking the ETS site for Nigeria/Lagos will show which dates are filled and which are still available.

Someone will not wake up any day and select any arbitrary date and expect it to be waiting. Like I said, those dates fill up pretty fast.

I am actually panning his unpreparedness masked with feigned anger as well as the misinformation. Maybe he should have been left to pay 100k for the bad score which the Ivy school he was planning to apply to would have still tossed aside.

okay if I tell you to help buy a blue shirt, would you buy a red shirt because the seller didn't have a blue shirt? And you would put the blame on me later that why didn't I check if blue is available? My point is, they are a professional organization and they should behave as such. However that's why we always encourage the attitude of do it yourself here but then what is wrong is wrong, no two way to it. Seems to me you have personal issue with the guy.

You have to submit GRE scores in January, and you’re registering to take the exams in late December. That says a lot about your own judgement. You’re not in any position to be questioning anybody’s judgement or intellect, TBH.

Yes. If the individual must wear a shirt, then it makes sense to ignore colour and just buy a shirt. Initiative and judgement is the substance here.
