I was working close to 120 hours per week in Nigeria and getting shitty pay. My current job here is 40hours per week. I signed up for overtime to further increase my pay. What I'll make here for just a weekend overtime (after tax) is more than what I was making in a month in Nigeria. Tory never change. I am here to hustle sister and mama charlie must pay me! Maybe you'll be inspired if I share my payslip by month end. I'll have to give that a second thought though.
love the spirit bro! Following you on NL straight... cheesy

You are very very wrong.Yes is called a credit card and the fund in it is meant for spending. You cant reside in the western world without a credit card, you just have to be a prudent spender and not an impulse buyer just because you have a credit card.

Let me use your illustration.Your credit card limit is $3000 for example,to have a good credit score, you are not suppose to spend more than 65% of that money which is $1,950 every month.

If your minimum payment happens to be $50 every month,to avoid charges,it will be for your own good to pay back in full the exact amount you spent from your credit card and not the minimum payment($50).

Do this for good 6 - 9 months and see how your credit limit will rise to $10,000 or more with juicy offers knocking on your door with mostly 0 APR,and your credit score in the range of 750 -850.

Now back to your advise using debit card,is it not same money you intend to spend from credit card you will also spend using your debit card?So why not just spend it from you credit card in which will make you have better offers if you want to get a car, house etc than spending from your debit card with not benefit to gain.

The major problem people have with credit card is impulse spending or lack of finance management. That is when debt start piling up and it makes them run bankrupt.

You write very well, I must say "you're smart" and please use every opportunity over there. Wish you the very best.

I on the other hand live in Nigeria and I have needs for credit but cannot get because interest rate is high and not affordable. Please there is no how you can compare the UK in terms of standard of living, welfare and life expectancy to Nigeria. My tailor took loan from a microfinance bank 100,000 naira to repay 150,000 for 6 months. If the monthly repayment money is short of 700 naira, the way those people would come to disgrace you in the shop, you won't wish for your enemy to collect loan.

I hope you are aware the current life expectancy of an average Nigerian is 54 years predicted to 44 years if the country's economic condition continues like this.

My dear the truth is, it is only the wealthy/very rich that enjoy this country, the poor and middle class are left suffering. The road to my street is very bad, my light is rationalised, IKEDC has refused to give me the pay as you use meter due to corruption yet give me exorbitant bill, the waste company doesn't come pick up thrash because of the road, I spend so much on fuel daily, I can't cook so much and freeze as there is no light. Now if all these basic amenities cannot be met, tell me what I am enjoying in the country as a citizen even though I pay my tax both directly and indirectly. I bought pizza for 2400 and the tax deducted was 350; Just Imagine!

OP wonderful thread, I have learnt a lot. You are very fortunate.
c dis my guy dey confess. If na me write this one on ghana 9ja thread saying life in ghana is peace, some people will write Nigeria is big, 9ja GDP na heaven, 9ja get oil, ghana no get anything, small ghana, ghana na country, .. Some wud go as far as calling me betrayer. Some will say I dey lie.. Now, this my guy dey hear am.... To enjoy nigeria, u have to be rich but been poor in nigeria, you go suffer.. If u b poor man for ghana, your life still dey ok... Between, did you not vote for buhari?

I know that, those who voted for buhari, na dem dey suffer pass..

We need people like u to talk out more, one day, dem go hear us and act on it..

Hi everyone,

This thread is an eye opener for me. The argument on creditcard was informative.

I see a lot of diasporans (UK) here, so i thought to ask (no intent on derailing pls!).

Have 2 job offers presently; one in Eastbourne (east sussex) and the other in Redhill, Surrey. Please i'd like some information on both places in terms of cost of living etc

I'd appreciate any help, as i have a few days to finalize.
TIA.

Hmmm.. so I guess I'm being paranoid then. I just don't want anyone harassing me at the airport due to the tons of music and movies on my laptop.

Asides that, I'm good.

Thanks though.
Nobody will arrest you over that! As someone stated... as long as it's not indecent image or pornographic videos of underage or any link to terrorism then you are good to go.

United states is the best country anyone can ever think of traveling to.

After USA, comes Australia, Canada, Japan and others.

UK is a waste of time...at the long run you will discover that you wasted your whole years living in UK.

If you doubt me, check how many relatives or neighbors or people you know that lived in UK that have good investment back home or doing exceedingly well, they are very few and rare but you can count thousands if not millions of Nigerians living in US and doing so well.

Nigerians avoid traveling to UK to live, that country is a wasted land only good for education and maybe holiday visit.

UK will become hell for migrants in few decades to come because their over bloated economy will crash further. Why Because UK has become irrelevant in the comity of nations when it comes to industrial, IT, etc service delivery. UK isn't producing anything highly sort after by the whole world....so soon they won't have what to export and no more colonialism to use to milk other nations and commonwealth will crash on their wicked head!

BREXIT will after them more in the coming years; UK economy will crash and good jobs will become rare and pay will drop while tax will increase.

UK, the most useless country that destroyed Africa angry

FUNNY

We know Bugatti is better than mercedes
At least, when we no get moto, God elevated us to buy S class mercedes, Someone will now come and say Bugatti is better than mercedes.

At least, we no get moto b4....Just an analogy. Some of us, didn't necessarily hand pick coming to Uk from many options, we just took a chance. Mind you, some people in Nigeria have better lives than living in the USA. So, it's relative.

God dey sha, nice to try to have a different mentality after being born in Nigeria. Seeing a different way of life

There is a very bad trend in this country that Nigerians have taken up, I call it the "single motherhood menace"

A significant number of Nigerian ladies I have seen here are single mothers, some of them have two kids for two different men.

One was even flirting with me the other day! she told her friend that she should hook her up with me, she should tell me that she is a citizen grin I wonder who tell her say I need paper shocked I don run from their gathering since then.

I'm presently seeing an overstayer and she's pronounced her undying love for me. The only thing is i am so confused when she's toasting me, because in Nigeria, a fine babe like that will show me pepper... Usually, when i say Hi, they said Bye....but now, na the reverse oh!

Run for the hills. grin

Unfortunately for the illegal immigrants, a british citizen cannot marry an overstayer and automatically confer on him/her the right to live in the UK. If you are interested in her, she will have to travel back to Nigeria to apply for a spouse visa after you both have gotten married in Nigeria. The home office will scrutinize her application very carefully because she is on their database as an overstayer.

In the days when I used to be a bad boy, I will 'chop and clean mouth' with that overstayer if I was in your shoes. grin
