Jesus (if he existed) at least the one in the bible has been so misconstrued by the churches and it seems to me that their work basically is to destroy his work.

All true spiritual leaders avoid making people dependent on them. They elevate you, they show you your God, they point out your path to you, they make understand that God has been 'democratised' as in every man can hear the voice of God. I find it disturbing that Adeboye and other 'men of God' stands to minister to thousands upon thousands of God's children. Is that how a father communicates with his children? No. This is what I think is happening: Adeboye has found his God, has recognised the voice of his God but instead of him to point others to their own God, to make them hear and obey their own God so that church becomes a place for fellowship not preaching, he keeps people dependent on his own God. And in this way the churches have centralised God. The churches have become the powers Jesus fought to free men from because for Christ the dignity of every man as a man stands above law, above institutions, above governments, above regulations and ceremonies, above the authority of other men. That is why jesus could stand on his authority and say 'you have heard it said to you an eye for an eye BUT I SAY TO YOU...
We too must stand on our own authority and speak, we must rely on the power of our own words. Only this way will men find freedom.

I have not kept you waiting dear.

I have posted a rather long reply since.

I think we can work with that.

If there's a nagging question on your mind you feel I have not answered, please bring me up to speed again.

I expect us to have a civil conversation, not one that's rife with subtle backbiting, judgementalism, and "my religion is better than yours" shenanigans. I do not want my feelings getting hurtgrincheesy

Dearie, you should also know that presently, I am not aligned to any known religion. Meaning I live by my own 'religious' ideologies and thoughts. I do not identify myself with any religious sect or belief.

I usually stay away from conversations that put my belief in the spotlight, especially seeing as I am neither here nor there (which I have no qualms with btw).

But for you, and for reasons known best to me, I will make an exception smiley
Learn the lesson of your breath. No one breathes for you. You breathe for yourself. So also it should be in matters of spiritual life. Just as you breathe to live physically by yourself so also you should breathe spiritually to live for yourself. Spiritual matters are too intimate, to important for us to depend on churches, pastors, imams, books before we live spiritually. Breathe, just breathe.

Being a Yoga practitioner has very little to do with serpents. It is true that Patanjali, the author of the Yoga Sutra is reputed to have landed on the cusp of his mother as a little snake, but when you consider that the authorship of that work goes back to even before the time of Jesus, the mythical imagery is well understood, in other words it is a myth. It is ridiculous for anyone to present it as fact.

Sure other sages may wish to reflect that imagery, besides the image of the serpent is prevalent in virtually all religions of the world.

Used to be a Christian too but dropped it off. The bolded expresses just how I look at this word of God thing. Consciousness, living and ever flowing is the word of God not the dead letters of a book. Those words in a book was God's word for David, for Paul, for John. It came to them fresh. I do not read that Abraham read a bible or Moses too. So also every man must hear God for himself. I too carry the word of my own God within. God's word to me is my consciousness. Once I am dead it ends. That's why it's called the living word of God.

A lot to ponder in what you wrote. For me the Bible is religious and political literature constructed from a religious perspective. The so-called history recorded in the biblical narratives, are to be understood first and foremost as representing beliefs and myths constructed to serve a purpose in the social and historical contexts in which they were written, edited, and arranged in their present form.

It seems to me that these texts cannot simply be picked up and read as though they constitute objective factual history in the modern sense, based on contemporary eyewitness reports.

The biblical literature first and foremost constitutes “propaganda.” The writers make no pretence to objectivity. It is revisionist history on a grand scale. Those who composed this literature had been minority parties, either in subjugation, exile or diaspora. Therefore the Hebrew Bible is basically a minority report in my view.

Without any doubt, those responsible for gathering and editing this material have been deliberately selective in what they included, in doing so, they provided a disservice by presenting a jaundiced view of events.

Okay..
I just really feel that there's no need for that, y'know...
I think that what the writer tries to prove is different from what I seek/sought.

It's not about evidence(s).
It's about experience(s).

So let me ask you, Dave...

Knowing what you know about Jesus' life and times, have you had a one one one encounter with him?

If yes, what makes you sure that you dealt with him first hand?

Mind sharing your experience(s)?
There's a people in the Amazon called the Piranha people. Here's something very interesting about them from Wikipedia:According to Everett, the Pirahã have no concept of a supreme spirit or god,[7] and they lost interest in Jesus when they discovered that Everett had never seen him. They require evidence based on personal experience for every claim made

If only we have the good sense displayed by this primitive people. Personally, I got to a point in my spiritual life as a Christian where words in a book no longer satisfied, preaching by men of God could not quench my thirsting. I wanted my heart and head to agree, to come into congruence. But I was left dry.
Today I know that even if I had seen a vision of Jesus then, I understand now that man's brain is a fiction- reality creating brain. If you pine so much for something, if you reach for it with your whole being your brain will manufacture it for you sometimes as a vision or dream. That's why visions and dreams are not peculiar to Christianity. It's a brain phenomenon. It has nothing to do with Christianity even if you see Christ.
Have you heard of stigmata? Well it's a phenomenon in the Catholic tradition where people pine so much and meditate on the sufferings of Christ on the cross to the extent that the wounds of Christ shows on their body. Some have wounds on their palms, some by their ribs. One of the most popular stigmata is st Francis of Asisi and Padre Pio.

Oh, cool, great even.
You just reminded me one of the reasons I dropped my bible for at least 2 years.

Most of these people we so admire did not have canons and sets of rules to guide them or become a basis for thought conformity.

Their limitations were only as far as their mind could carry them.

DaveP, you're my good pal, else I would tell you straight up that I do not enjoy biblical debates...
Like say,, but Matthew 3 v 5 says you must not jump a story building, and I say, oh, but Leventicus chapter 6 v 8 says you can jump if it's just 2 stories high.

Honestly speaking, it's so tiring.
Truly, it is.

There was a time I used to feel bad that I did not read my bible daily. There were times I fought so hard to pray and fast in certain ways...

I just do not live by those rules anymore.

I know it makes me a misfit and outcast among religious folks, and it is not my intention to offend the sensibilities of you, my friend when I say this, but I simply do not care about that anymore.

Lol, Dave.
Good morning.

But I'm not a Christian anymore, my dear.
I have no religion to lay claim to.
I do not consider the Bible as the word of God.

It does not make sense to me that Paul's words now equal the word of God.

I think that the word of God is in the hearts of all men.
It is living, and it is flowing....
You just need to tap into that consciousness and do exploits.

You talked about contemporary folks having access to the president....

Well, Dave, let's just say that some folks with specific assignments actually have the president's personal line. When they call, he listens, when they need to meet, he makes it happen, no matter what.

My understanding is that there is more to God, the divine if you may, than meets even the most enlightened of eyes.

Sometimes, people experience an aspect or some aspects of God...
This is dependent on what you are here to do...

I know what mine is....

Now the good thing is, wherever you are at, however you are...God has his special ways of reaching you, because you are part of him. How he reveals himself to you would be different, or rather, might be different from how he does to me.

In the end, we are on seemingly different paths to achieving our truest, realest nature - GodHood.

Mujtahida,

I will have to re-read your words...

A very dear one did teach me that art of breathing, and it really helps.

Sometimes, I just stop and breathe...

I find that it makes me more aware of my experiences, be they positive or negative, and then deciding what I really want, raising my vibration to that level etc etc.

Okay cheesy
I cannot say explicitly that I have a hang of how it all works, yeah?

But I find that when I feel Joy, and peace and this attitude of gratitude, it's like Nothing is Impossible anymore.
