CASER faults appointment of northerner as NIA DG… bemoans Buhari’s sectionalism, insensitivity

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday approved the appointment of his erstwhile Senior Special Assistant, SSAP, on Foreign Affairs/International Relations, Ahmed Abubakar, as the substantive Director-General for the National Intelligence Agency, NIA.

According to a release from the presidency, Abubakar had extensive experience working with the United Nations in peace support operations, mediation process, preventive diplomacy and good offices, as well as the promotion of good governance and respect for the rule of law and human rights.

But a civil society group, the Citizens Advocacy for Social &  Economic Rights, CASER, has criticised the appointment, warning that the lopsided selection of the nation’s security chiefs in favour of Northern Muslims by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is not healthy for nation building.

It pointed out that Buhari has by this action, in addition to other political decisions, exhibited sectionalism and insensitive use of political discretion, such that other sections of the country, particularly minorities would feel seriously alienated and marginalised.

CASER, in a statement issued by its  Executive Director, Frank Tietie, pointed out that in a mutually suspicious political arrangement like Nigeria, where one section of the country controls the major security structures, the President’s latest appointment violates Section 14(3) of the Constitution which states that:

“The composition of the Government of the Federation or any of its agencies and the conduct of its affairs shall be carried out in such a manner as to reflect the federal character of Nigeria and the need to promote national unity, and also to command national loyalty, thereby ensuring that there shall be no predominance of persons from a few State or from a few ethnic or other sectional groups in that Government or in any of its agencies.”

Una go hear am
If govt deploy troops, na so dem go say, "The govt has sent backup to protect the rampaging herdsmen"

If govt send police, nas so them go scream "ehhn ehnn, now it is police you are sending, but sent Army to igbo land..."

Situations like these, nothing that you realy can do...
Bann the herdamen, then get police to arrest those doing open grazing, and the problem with will reduce a bit, or the herdsmen will now be fighting the police and not unarmed farmers
shut up

no decision yet but they were quick to decide when IPOB were agitating even when there were no report of blood shed anywhere in the south-east. Buhari is irritatingly stupid, it shall never be well with him and his household. He shall feel a double, the pain and hurt Nigerians are feeling.

Are you still the omnipotent and omnipresent God? Hello! Are you still the living God? Are you still on the throne? Why are you slow to anger these days? God, lest you forget, this is exactly how i challenged you way back 2012 and you answered and physically proved it. My spirit is vexed. I have come to challenge you again o God. You have never failed me. We can no longer help ourselves, please, remember you are a jealous God, ehen, prove to us you are still our Almighty God na. You have done it during the time of Pharaoh, Nebuchadnezzar, Ahab and Jezebel, Abacha, etc. Please God, I want you to bring the immediate full weight of your wrath upon those who are still supporting this evil government and all the leaders beginning from Muhammadu Buhari, his cabinet members, military and security officers, Governors and the idiotic followers. Do not let them escape your wrath of old in Jesus name I pray. Amen.

It's their nature.

They wasted no time in increasing petrol pump price from N87 to N145.

But an issue in increasing minimum wage.

It's in their blood.

We all deserve hardship and corrupt leaders in Nigeria.

Because the average Nigerian has a weak mentality.

Sadly there are over 100 million others who share in this biased ideology, yet you'll want to compare yourself with saner climes with sane citizens.

your generation decided to bring an old cattle rearer who have not done anything useful with his brain and you expect anything good?
you are seeking for another persons opinion on how to settle Fulani herdsmen killing which buhari is a member and in control of all the security agencies.

As you put it,my generation actually helped Nigeria by voting in PMB.
If the 2015 elections had turned the other way,Nigeria would have been in a bigger mess.
If you read the article you would see that a lasting solution is being worked on,
but in your blind hatred for PMB,you will not settle down and consider if really this is a
solution worth pursuing .

I join millions of intelligent Nigerians who would rather judge PMB by his actions and policies than
rely on propaganda by corrupt politicians with too much money to play with.
