AfDB Board Denies Asking Adesina To Resign, Says No Decision Yet On Fresh Probe by Nobody: 5:07am On May 29, 2020
Niale Kaba, chairperson of the board of governors at the African Development Bank (AfDB), has denied reports that Akinwumi Adesina, president of the bank has been asked to resign.

In a statement seen by TheCable on Thursday, Kaba said the board has not reached a decision on a request by the US to carry out an independent investigation into allegations of favouritism against Adesina.

“On Tuesday, May 26, the office of the board of governors of the African Development Bank Group held a meeting to examine the matter arising from a complaint from the board of directors of the bank, and about that which I received from some shareholders expressing different points of view,” she said in the statement.

“The office which I chair wishes to reassure the public that it has taken up the matter and is treating it with the greatest rigour and with all the seriousness that it deserves.

“However, the office informs the public that no decision has been made as falsely conveyed in some publications,” Haa

“Everyone must allow the Office to do its work and let the process of examining this case to take its course. The opinion of all the governors will be sought for its successful outcome.”

Bloomberg, had reported on Wednesday, that the board has agreed to an independent investigation in line with demands from Steven Mnuchin, the US treasury secretary.

In a letter addressed to Kaba, Munchin said the US disagreed with the decision of the bank’s ethics committee which absolved Adesina of the allegations.

I personally see this US probe as an insult on Africans. Trump Admin for that matter, a racist bigot, visionless, arrogant and largely unintelligent fellow who talks and tweet without common sense.

Let everyone know today that Trump met USA as a Powerful and strong economy nation but would be leaving the country as a hopeless, powerless, and visionless nation.

Normally, he's supposed to commit suicide for a nation like America loosing over 100k souls to a virus. Yet, he has the gut to ask for investigation of someone who has done extremely well in managing what has committed to him. No one in the history Trump generations has ever achieved what Adesina has achieved.

The cabal against Mr Adesina are insiders.

They tend to know so much about his dealings, which explains why they furnished the US authorities with enough information

Good luck to him

This is a typical example of what happens when you don't keep your affairs in order.

When will Africa learn, soon not only the US will dictate what the bank does, China will start openly pulling her weight soon given how much indebted Africa is to the Chinese.

If African leaders don't get their houses in order we are going to witness Berlin conference version 2 in our own very life time.

Demark, Sweden, France etc that said it is US right to probe what belong to Africa are they mad or what This is an insult and a slap to Africa as a nation.

Interest. The United States is the largest shareholder in the IMF and World Bank as well as the highest non-African shareholder in AfDB. Adesina has been expediting loan requests to African countries which caused the World Bank President to complain that Adesina's actions increase the debt portfolio of African countries (actually, Adesina's style causes the African countries to reduce loan requests to World Bank and IMF). To put him in check and protect US investments in AfDB and African geopolitics through US creditor power, Adesina has to be kicked out.

PS: For your second question, no African countries own shares in the European Central Bank or European Commission or European Investment Bank, and no EU or African country owns shares in US Federal Reserve Bank (no law would permit it), so they can't put their mouth in how those institutions are run.

One lapse too is that AfDB loans are denominated in dollars. So the US can sanction them for "misusing the dollars". An unrelated example is that UBS (the largest Swiss Bank) paid $780 million to the United States government for helping US citizens hide their money abroad thereby evading taxes and attempting to impede the role of the Internal Revenue Service, i.e., what the United States is doing interfering in AfDB, they won't allow anyone try it with their own institutions. Yet, Africans gave them too much power. Perhaps, it is time to denominate AfDB loans in selected African currencies and find a way to buy out the United States.

Let this incident be an eye opener to the whole of Africa (leaders and the youth) OBJ and the minister of Finance did a good job. The letter was full of content you can't go out of the Constitution of an organization to probe anyone MR Adesina has scaled through the internal Board that's what matters. If the United States don't feel comfortable with it let them sell of their shares and go simple.

From this woman's statement it shows they're all scared of the United States. Her words are shaking. Thier Answers as board members should be clear to the United States, and other member country that the African Development Bank can't work outside of Thier constitution.
No African Country can interfere in foreign financial institutions talk less of asking them to work outside of their constitution.

Hope Africans won't sabotage each other this time around, I want this petition to be kicked out let's see how the united states and the west will react. I would love them to dish out sanctions so it'll be glaring to butt lickers of the west who criticise countries resisting bullying from the United States. If this is not bully tell me what's it?

This is how they cause War in another man's country. Rejecting the mandate of the people and installing Thier own if you resist they start giving you sanctions if you're weak they'll start a war immediately to get what they want at all cost.

Nigeria leaders won't talk much because of medical trip, and most of Thier children school Abroad. Is that not Shameful to you guys?

What's so special about there? Nigeria docs make up large numbers in their hospitals. if we ain't good they wouldn't have employed us. The president is not exempted if you're a leader in the Federal Republic of Nigeria and you refuse to speak up because of visa you should be Ashamed of yourself.

Have you guys asked yourself What will befall Nigeria if we get invaded? Enough of the looting development your country, safe your money there, build your defense system to avoid invaders and be a first citizens for life.

I thought Africa would have learnt from Gaddafi. What happened in Libya is highest Rape in humanity they came to your land, invaded your brother killed him left is his country in chaos and 51 Africa leaders can't speak up its big big shame.

If you guys don't use your power to do anything to develop your Country build her defense system what happened in Libya will go round it's just a matter of time.

ownership isnt the problem here.. control of the African debt and African money/ lending markets is the problem... who else in Africa has the capacity to borrow like Nigeria? how would they be succesful if the highest GDP pulls out and borrows instead from China at cheaper rate? which country apart from Nigeria Egypt and South Africa has the capacity for a meaningfull borrowing plan?
