Let me throw a spanner in the works (I have been hanging out with sappers lately wink) and say that the IED came first [No nemesis4u, not what you think wink]. The fougasse led to the land mine way back in the 18th century.

UPDATE ON OPERATION DEEP PUNCH II:
...Troops capture and destroy Boko Haram terrorists major IED making factory

Land and air components of Operation LAFIYA DOLE have continued to exploit earlier successes made in the conduct of Operation DEEP PUNCH II; an offensive and clearance operation that has in the last four weeks led to severe depletion of Boko Haram terrorists and destruction of several of their enclaves in the fringes of Lake Chad and the Sambisa forest.

Yesterday Tuesday 6th February 2018, the troops, closely supported by the Nigerian Air Force further exploited deep into the far ends of Camp Zairo and aggressively carried out an offensive against Boko Haram terrorists defending a major Improvised Explosive Device (IED) making factory. The gallant troops successfully engaged the insurgents, demobilized their vehicle borne IEDs and neutralized quite a number of the terrorists, as well as capturing the IED making factory.

The troops have also recovered 88 Gas Cylinders, 1 Laptop computer, one 100m Ultra High Frequency Hand-held Radio (UHF HH Radio), 1 Motorola GP 180, Theodolite and 2 Global Positioning Systems (GPS). The troops also destroyed 22 Motorcycles, 18 Bicycles and provisions store.

It is gratifying to note that buoyed by these unprecedented success, troops morale remain high and are unrelenting in ensuring the imminent and total clearance of the remaining Boko Haram terrorists.

Please disseminate this information to the general public through your news media. Thank you for your usual cooperation.

#Algerian air Force Super Hind Mk.III Desert Hawks #Hassi_Tererein_ #Tamanrasset Extrem South of Algeria 06 Military Destrict #ANP

How uncanny that I see this just after I read this on War is Boring:
https://warisboring.com/the-super-hind-mk-iii-could-be-the-best-mi-24-ever/

I've no time for the writer - who frequently gets it wrong - but from the article it's clear he spoke to some ATE people. I'll forgive him the granular detail, suffice to say the Russians threatened to withhold spares and support for all legacy Soviet defence materiel to any Hind operator who followed Algeria's example and upgraded with the South Africans. All the Eastern European prospective clients asked ATE to wait till they joined EU and NATO and free themselves from Russian blackmail (3 years), which drove ATE into bankruptcy and business rescue by Paramount.
Incidentally, this is one of the many reasons why Russia -despite its assistance to the ANC - never got a state visit by both presidents Mandela and Mbeki.
Ironically, ATE's current owner, Paramount, now derives substantial profits from those very same ex-Soviet states.

Nigeria have a strict policy of not choosing sides. We have strong relationship with both Pakistan and India. Our military relationship with Pakistan does not necessarily mean we have abandoned India. India is currently the highest importer of Nigerian crude. Our NDA is modelled after India's NDA. Pakistan started importing LNG from Nigeria very recently. But the fact is Pakistan has stood by us through hard times. I will also like to point out that India is close to the west militarily, which means US and her allies have certain influence in India. When push comes to shove India will choose US and her allies over Nigeria. While on the other hand even though Pakistan receives aid from US, they have their own mindset. And right now Pakistan is looking to grow it's military complex through export of their products, which means we can get them fast, cheap and easily.

@jjphilips. Stop trying to make it sound as if Nigeria supporting Palestine have something to do with religion. "as long as we have a Sunni CIC". What the heck is that suppose to mean? OBJ committed Nigeria to Palestine. When did OBJ became a "Sunni CIC"? Like I said earlier Nigeria does not choose sides. We voted against Israel but we still have strong military and economic relationship with Israel. If we abandoned Palestine just because US said so is bad for our public image. It portrays Nigeria as an unreliable ally who change sides just because the wind blows in that direction. Nigeria is bidding for a permanent seat in UNSC, we already have the support of China. What do you think will happen if Nigeria started acting like puppet to US? If the UNSC is ever expanded to include African countries, China, Russia and the West will look to bring in the country with history of neutrality so as not to increase the influence of the other.

First, it may not be a sunni influence based on OBJ's precedence however, what does doctrine of necessity entail? how can you prioritize a Palestinian relationship when your existence as a nation is threatened? who thinks like that?
If Terrorists like boko overruns Nigeria like the Houti & Hezbollah did in Yemen and Lebanon, what will Palestine lean on?
Nobody bids for a UNSC permanent seat, Nigeria appealed for a democratic UNSC does not mean it will happen in this lifetime. in case you chose to forget, the UNSC permanent seat is a war booty for the WW2 victors, they will not, I repeat, they will never remotely consider handing that seat to Nigeria at least not in this lifetime. Saudi Arabia with a better bargaining chip hasn't let alone nigeria, pls dont make me laugh.

Where did the CH3 go before? I think NAF needs to order more UCAVS from the Chinese. I'll prefer the dangerous CH4.

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE REMOTELY PILOTED AIRCRAFT DESTROYS ANOTHER BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS ARTILLERY GUN, AS INSURGENTS REMAIN IN DISARRAY

A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) remotely piloted aircraft (RPA), on 6 February 2018, successfully destroyed an artillery gun belonging to the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) in the vicinity of Sambisa Forest. A NAF Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform had sighted the artillery gun while on a routine surveillance around the outskirt of the Sambisa general area. Consequently, the surveillance ISR aircraft requested for an immediate air strike and a NAF RPA was deployed to interdict the target. Overhead the target location, the RPA acquired and attacked the target, completely destroying the artillery gun and setting it ablaze. NAF aircraft continue to survey the Sambisa Forest and environs as part of the ongoing coordinated air and land operations aimed at ridding the nation of the remnants of the insurgents.

And the Malayan insurgents who employed army stores/ammo against the SAS? Or the Partisans all over Europe taught by SAS/OSS and predecessors against Nazis?

IED is just the latest nomenclature for an old tactic employed unconventionally mostly against superior conventional forces.
