What if he dies under your soldier detention? What's the consequence?
Think again
That is the risk involved, most times it doesn't happen

Any money you can't forfeit don't give out to a debtor. If someone asks for 10k and you know you can't wait for forever to your money back is better you help the person with 1k and let him go.

if the debtor is a customer, (that's the only way I can even borrow you money) just keep calm and pretend as if you've forgotten, trust Nigerians they will never remind of that money until you tell them, but don't disturb them, they will soon forget they owe you, so when they come to do new business with you, once their spare cash is in your hands, take the money as your repayment, some will use their sense to know that they owe you, but some will still want it gragra just chirp this word 'you forget say you dey owe mean ' it doesnt stop there, some will still be persistent that you give them their spare money, that they want to used for a very important thing, but the logic is make your own need of the money more important than he's in that particular time

Hi NLander

Someone asked me today to advice him how best he could deal with a particular debtor who has been owing him an amount of money for the past 3 month but keeps postponing and he has a feeling that he won't pay him the money....but as a gentleman i am(plus I've never been in that situation before)i couldn't come up with a good plan

so I'm asking my fellow NLanders who might have been in the same shoe one way or the other how you handled the issue then or how you're planning to deal with such person
Lol funny comments all the way down.. First of all bro are you sure the person he is trying to get his money from has the money presently and maybe still delaying to pay up. And how much is involved? If its not up to a N100K Don't involve the police... Well if its up to that or above that ah think you should involve the police.. But then the police won't help you get your money for free you will have to pay up.. (Estimated at N20k before they will help) Here is the advice: visit a nearby police station and lay a complaint about someone owing you for some time and is refusing to pay up, that you need them to help you recover your money.. They will ask if you want the person to be arrested or invited for interrogation, that's your choice to make.. But to be fair to your debtor go for the police invitation once the police invites your Debtor he becomes threatened and scared. Therefore he will pay up the money by all means or risk being arrested and detained till he pays up.. Shared this based on past experience..

Op dont involve police at all, just find the the closest Army check point and explain to them, they will help you beg your debtor to pay you grin

bu tell them not to touch the guy, that all you need is the guy to pay you ya money. Very effective. I love the army

You forgot that if the debtor is wicked and intelligent, then your money is gone forever. Whether the Army officers touched him or not is immaterial. The moment the officers stepped into his house to recover debt, they are already in violation and this could land you in prison.

It's true that many people are afraid of the soldiers but intelligent people will only look for a way to get out of the difficult situation and implicate you and even the soldiers with a simple petition.

My general advice is "do not lend money to ANYBODY". You can help people if you can but don't and never lend.

The best way to deal with a tough debtor is to create a fear 4 him, for instance, you can scare him that a superior person that the guy looks up to and respect has heard about it.............but if that doesn't work, hand his matter to God, with time his/her heart will be calm and the debtor will pay ur money back

Your comment is even the funniest. More so, it could mislead others about the laws of the land.

First, a debtor is not a criminal and can not be arrested or invited by the police. The police is not empowered by the law to investigate or handle civil matters. Although some overzealous police officers do dabble into civil matters and go free because most of such people are either illiterates or ignorant of their rights.

Secondly, if this person became a debtor because you lent him/her the money, then you may even go to jail if you don't have the "Money Lenders License" that empowers you to lend money.

Now, do not mistake the exceptions. For example if somebody is owing you because you paid for goods and he failed to supply the goods but instead promised to return the money, the police will treat it as a criminal case of Obtaining By Tricks (OBT).

But if somebody is owing you because you completed a contract and he refused to pay for the work done, you can only sue him even for damages, provided you have documents to justify such claims.

Call two soldiers to detain him and beat him up, trust me, your money will surface within a week. It works like magic.

If you do that to an informed person, you will go to jail and those soldiers will be seriously dealt with.
