what type of fertiliser do you use to fertilize your palm trees.

I used fertilizers last year and it was the variety that help fruiting.
I used urea for the new trees to help with growth.
The best part is that I rotate where the cows rest for the nights and the cow dung provide the best fertilizer yet.

No. Definitely not.
I haven’t used those to full capacity but not sure if it’s even closer to that quantity .

By the way the senate is debating this on palm oil. https://orientdailynews.com.ng/agriculture/senate-seeks-ban-importation-palm/
This is a good news for palm trees farmers.

we don't have enough trees or farmers to fill in the gap

But how do we encourage people to start small and medium farms if there is no return on investment?
There has to be an inducement for people to go into farming.

so you wish to tamper with the market like dangote and force ppl to pay higher price cos you cannot compete
are the present farms not returning investment?

yeah,hunger

It makes sense not to flood your local market with foreign made goods.
It encourages local production and ultimately brings in foreign currency. The senate is doing what legislative bodies worldwide do
That's Economic 101

political sense
not economic sense
cos instead of nigerians to par 100 billion for palm oil they will pay 200 billion
that 100 billion could have been used for proper investment but is now in your pocket to live large only to buy imported stuff with it

It encourages local production and ultimately brings in foreign currency.
it encourages subsidy
do you see how it turned out with oil?

The senate is doing what legislative bodies worldwide do
That's Economic 101
yeah and anything govt touches turns to dust
america susidises agric and yet food is very expensive
we don't feel it because there is high productivity
but market protection is ulltimately a bad thing excep for opportunists like you
we don't need to ban anything
instead the senators and you should invest your loot in farms and factories with economies of scale
once you produce cheaper than the importers no one will look at them
has rice price come down since they increased duty to 100% at ports
what about chicken
all you do is drive price up for consumers
thats extortion not economic development

besides local oil is far cheaper than imported one
and ppl are investing and making money
its just ppl nott willing to delay gratification by planting more trees
just pure laziness just like banning instead of increasing production

I have about 2000 trees.
I planted them progressively since 2012.
I started production of oil 2015.
I have issues that I have faced and succeeded. If you are interested in starting a farm, ask me questions and I can share my good and not-too-good moments with you. Issues ranging from land acquisition, clearing to plant, netting, fertilizing, row weeding and on and on.

All in all, I can encourage young ones or anyone to start your own palm tree farm, its a worthwhile investment.

Ask any question and ill try as much as i can to answer.
good day and thanks for all you have been doing here please, can you help me with land purchase in the southwest? I would like to buy land and establish a plantation in the southwest even though I'm not from there. my plan is to establish a plantation and move permanently into it in retirement after fifteen years.is such places permanently inhabitable or inhabited right now. I'm still making research of such places in the southeast but I would like to spread out now to that southwest. remember is the place permanently inhabitable is the major question.

Good idea to have a long term view rather than “now”
There are still tens of acres where I am. People usually sell in tens of acres.
Habitability is a function of your preference, I mean how rural a person you are. Anywhere is habitable depending on how you make it. Right now on my farm, 2 families live on farm. I plan to retire out there.
You can pm me or email me.

The gap is much. I can’t be specific at the moment but I’ll look for the data; the difference between our local production and consumption.
The gap creates opportunities for young people who are willing to struggle thru the 4-5 years of investing in planting and caring for the palm trees before harvesting and production begins

Ever since i read a report about 2 years ago and saw Nigeria has been importing over 1.5 million Tons of palm oil as at 2008; i have been looking to start palm oil trade.

its 2years now and i know that we are lacking in supply due largely to urban migration and lack of managed plantations.

i want to plant and wait 4 years to harvest but am still gathering capital and looking for cheap farmland in the south east.

i have to keep working otherwise i would opt for the western lands i have heard about on nairaland.

any help on land acquisition is welcome. Thank you

dafuq am i supposed to know that.
is your google not working.
all i know is we have less than 300,000 hectares
while malaysia have 4 million
and indonesia has overtaken malaysia wit 4.16m or so
multiply by 143 trees per hectare
and 5-6ooo litres per hectare
and
i would suggest you start today even if it is to plant 1 tree
in 4 years you will be able to at least double it
in 30 years you will have at least a thousand trees which is like 6.6 hectares
not much but something

My experience is that trying to buy land where urban development have reached is an invitation to fraud and disaster .
So going a bit further and farther is better. People generally are not interested in lands they consider as “too far”
When I purchased 6 years ago, people were not interested in the area. They considered the place as too far. Now farms are springing up around me and the per acre price around although still cheap, is over 300% of what I bought for.
