Let me just go straight to the point. 1. Physical punishment. Weastern culture will say its child abuse and some will even report you to the police. In Nigeria, the police dey look for whom to punish. So just pray as a child that you jejely receive the punishment from your parents. This point is a fact in every Nigerian home and I don't see it leaving anytime soon. 2. Flogging Some parents will quote the bible here, that "if you spear the rod you will spoil the child". I actually have my own share of this sha 3. Clubbing Even as adults we often lie to cover our going out especially clubbing. 4. Having a boyfriend or girlfriend and bringing such person home Lol. This is a really serious case with Nigerian Parents ohh. Unless you want to answer heavenly questions 5. Please add yours! 16 Likes |

ZubbyGodson: The issue of 18years is political. - Western countries have benefit system to cater for the poor/jobless adults. Then they have social services care for the Children from broken homes or orphans. - 18 years is the appropriate age when they decide that a child is now an adult. - If you leave your parents home at 18 and wahala befalls you and you become a begger, they will take you off the streets and register you as an adult to receive benefits to stay alive till you can get a job. They will even try to find a job for you unless you are are so daft that you cannot even keep a job. Such daft persons deteriorate into drugs/prostitution and slowly end up in jail or dead. -- In Nigeria/Africa such systems are not in place. If you leave your parents house at ANY age, you are on your own. NOBODY is obliged to help you. So either you stay at home and behave your self or you just f**k off and face the world like a full adult. Marry whatever lady you impregnate. Face your responsibility. 102 Likes 6 Shares |

Getting a job or passing an exam on merit Nigerian parents will make sure they hook you up with someone they know or pay for a special center instead of leaving you to get the job or pass the exam based on your own effort Then they will go to church and give testimony to Jehovah 46 Likes 1 Share |

I grew up around Westerners who were raised in a different way. My parents were extremely strict but the other kids were more responsible than me. I changed with time but I know that I will raise my kids differently 'cause not trusting your kids and being over-controlling does not lead to the desired results. The Nigerian society is proof of that. 67 Likes 6 Shares |
