Hello, my people. I am gradually moving on from the 0-3 loss to Barca.

Forty Two

Adams and David planned to make Jaye feel better. They hanged around him to be sure he didn’t try anything funny. He wanted to get better too, to put everything behind, pick up what was left of the pieces of his life and move on but his mood had other plans. It kept getting worse.

His friends tried everything, almost everything to cheer him up. Adams, David, Bisi and Jaye all camped in David’s apartment in order to live as a family, live a brotherhood. They tried all the idea of fun they could think of. They saw movies, danced to songs, played games. Everything they tried only bored him.

They even went to PDF. Perhaps the good funny old days could be relived, but it was no fun. The place looked like it was facing the same bereavement as Jaye. It seemed like the shadow of its old self, the ever crowded and buzzing PDF was now almost empty and dry. They tried tennis. It felt like it was Jaye’s head being batted around the table.

Everything they tried reminded him of one thing or the other that had pierced his heart or was still piercing it. He wished he could get out of the dark ambience which besieged his existence but it seemed all odds were just against that happening.

Even when Cenz and Michael visited and told funny stories, everyone including the comedians would laugh and sometimes roll on the floor but Jaye wouldn’t bat an eye.

“Maybe I should go home” he offered sulking.

He rubbed his eyes with the back of his right hand, scanning the eyes of his friends. He knew they would not want him to move. They were only trying to help and he didn’t want to be an ingrate.

“Maybe all I need is a change of environment.” He said.

“Maybe all you want is to die of boredom” Adams said with a straight face and slipped beside him on the cushion.

“We won’t have you murder yourself while no one is watching.” He finalised.

Adams was scared he could harm himself. He believed he had bleeped up once and vowed to not let it happen the second time. He made it a duty of his to always be with Jaye. He put any plan of getting a job on old until his friend grew into a better frame of mind. when David and Bisi was at work, he was at ‘work’ making sure Jaye did nothing silly.

He was committed to the work and was not anywhere near tired of it. He would be as patient as necessary, persistent as required, he was not going to give up on this poor dude whom current situation, he had played a huge role.

He was not helping the folk. He was simply atoning for his error, errors that could never be fully atoned for. So when Jaye suggested going home to mamma, he instantly threw it in the trash can.

“You really don’t have any reason to long for mama, she is here almost always” he said and sighed.

“If you desperately need a woman, we can hook you up.” He added in a rather surprisingly low tone

“Remember how the last service you offered turned out, I can’t be stupid to patronise you again” Jaye replied and threw his first smile in what seemed like years.

“The person that needs to be hooked up is you” he said and hit Adams on the shoulder as though to emphasize the fact that it was him he was talking to

“You were a player but lately, you’ve been so single, even figure 1 is jealous… or have you lost your…” he asked with a wink, nodding his finger like an agama would its head.

The question sounded funny to Adams.

“You know I have been shooting guns before it was even invented, I just don’t do love” he said in a rather cocky manner though he had other thoughts.

“I actually do love, but the girl with which am in love with, never felt it for me so, what’s the hustle.” He said in his mind.

“If you didn’t ask a girl out, you can never blame her for trying someone else out.” Jaye said As if he had heard his thoughts.

The truth was, Jaye knew how much Adams was into Rihanat, and how Rihanat being rather into him made Adams unable to ask her out. Adams thought he could see his own happiness in seeing her happy and tried all he could to ensure Rihanat got what she wanted. It worked for a while before Jaye went and fall in love with another person.

“Why do you think I hated you? You gave your girl to me and then make some stupid prank about screwing her. Who does that?” Jaye asked, already deciding to fix the two up already.

Eventually, what set out as an ‘operation’ to save Jaye ended up as a mission to glow up Adams love life.

“Hey Rihanat, I need to see you. Meet me at David’s if you can” Jaye said to phone.

He ended the call and snapped Adams out of the surprise he had slumped in to with a mild punch on his shoulder.

“She’s coming over now you better clean up and wear something enticing” he said, alarming him.

“See who is advising whom, you look like shit yourself” Adams returned and headed for the bathroom.

“With your overgrown beards, she will be thankful you fell for someone else.” He teased before finally disappearing into the bathroom.

What he said got Jaye up to the mirror stand, and he saw how lean, dirty and crazy he had become.

“Damn! No one should see me like this” he grumbled.

He had suddenly become conscious of his looks. He raced through closets for a shaving stick. To start with, he had to clean up the bush on his face before someone start setting traps for games in it.

As he searched the closet in his room, a wad of cash fell off one of the pants. He picked the money and he saw a business card stacked with it by a rubber band. The card belonged to Chinedu Austin of Fine Starch Laundry Services.

“Maybe I should look for this guy someday” he said to himself as he dropped the card and went on his hunt for a shaving stick.

As he settled to shaving, the door bell rang,

“Oh shit. This girl is here, she can’t find me like this” he whined.

Before he could think of something, Rihanat had gone in, in the company of David and Bisi. He was about asking how one call could fetch three people when he saw it was 5:30 pm.

“Ok, so it is three on one” he thought to and decided “Bleep it, this is me now. I don’t care.” “Hey people” he said as he flashed a smile and spread his arms for hugs.

“Wow! See who is back from the dead” Bisi exclaimed.

“Rihanat, you should go and hug the man who has invited you” David motioned.

“Actually, I made the call but the Adams, man who had been in love with her since God-knows-when but never mentioned it, and he is now ready to really did the inviting” Jaye said enthusiastically observing Rihanat’s face.

He saw surprise on her face and couldn’t tell what surprised her. That he invited her for Adams or that Adams was in love with her.

“Well, he is in the bathroom making himself look…” he was saying when he looked back and saw Adams emerged, dressed up and looking dashing,

“Yes, here comes the man. I will go ahead and finish cleaning up” he announced.

“You two should go inside and unwind, give them the room.” He ordered poking at Bisi and David as he went to clean himself up. The two still remained speechless by the whole drama. They were surprised Jaye, that they had left at home in the morning, barely existing was now alive and even matchmaking… matchmaking Rihanat and Adams of all people.

This was a long ride, it's worth it..
Well... Adams has done so many bad things but am glad he has atoned for them...
I am also glad that Hate is back to himself...
I believe Mr Austin knows the whereabout of Hadiza.. He must have seen her unconscious at the point where she was dumped by the guy who hit her...
And not forgetting the fact that nemesis caught up with the Barnabas'..

GOOD MORNING Y'ALL LEX GO IN SEARCH OF OUR HADIZA

FORTY THREE

Only Adams and Rihanat knew what they had said to each other and whatever it was that they had said, was indeed a good one because by the time Jaye finished cleaning up and joined them in the sitting room, they were too busy to notice him.

Their lips were locked and the hands were busy, caressing, handling and squeezing. Adams looked like a very hungry lion and Rihanat looked like she was really ready to be preyed upon.

Jaye had to notify them of his presence and most especially collect a thank you.

“Easy man, not that fast. You gotta pay your dues first, that’s my girlfriend you are kissing” he said feigning some serious seriousness.

As though he was really serious about his statement, he strode towards them carrying a straight face and sat in between them.

“You guys should at least say thanks before you move on” he said and followed with a laugh before standing up.

“You have to pause your romance later when I’m here, or do you expect me not to be jealous?” he asked, winking at Adams.

As if saying ‘you can be jealous but nothing or no one can come between me and my bae’, Adams drew his girlfriend nearer and tighter and gave a giggle.

“You would stop being jealous once we settle one babe for you.” He said with a laugh and Jaye threw a pillow at him.

“Take me serious when I say I’m not buying that kind of service from you ever again, the last babe you settled for me is now your girlfriend.” He joked.

Jaye intentionally decided to take the attention away from himself. He was tired of being treated like some mentally downed folk. To his own surprise though, he felt better and better since he pulled that one on Adams and Rihanat.

Now Rihanat had stopped biting herself, she could now hold a comfortable conversation with Jaye, she was no more unease around him and Adams talked more ruthlessly to Jaye just like the good old days.

Jaye felt kind of free from the atmosphere of need created by the whole experience. He didn’t want to appear needy to his friends.

“I need to leave this place but how do I tell David that” he asked himself and before he could provide himself with an answer David appeared, Mr Austin’s complementary card in one hand and money in the other. Bisi followed closely behind. He carried a very serious face. one would be forgiven to think a bad fight was imminent.

“Did you get paid to let Adams date Rihanat?” He asked with some funny hard tone.

Jaye was about to say no I didn’t when David curved a smile.

“Jokes on you bro” he patted Jaye on the shoulder and sat next to him.

“Let’s call this man and find out who he is once and for all” he said throwing the complementary card on the table in front of them.

Adams picked it up and dialled the numbers on it.

“Hello, am I on to Mr Chinedu Austin…? Ok, I am Adams, a friend of Jaye’s” he was saying to the person that picked the call but he decided to put the call on speakers to avoid having to do some reporting later. The phoned went loud and a voice came through.

Austin’s voice was the lowest Adams had ever heard, he talked as if he was afraid he could hurt someone’s ears with his voice. His pitch was the complete opposite of Adams.

“I have been expecting this call for a long time” Austin said.

Though, the call was on speaker, others could barely hear him audibly.

“Now the call has come and we want to know who you are” Adams replied. He had grown impatient already.

“By ‘we’, you mean Jaye too?” Austin asked. Excitement grew in his voice and he became slightly louder

“This is not supposed to be a phone conversation, let’s see and talk. You can come down here and I can come over there, whichever way you want it.” He suggested.

“Ok, I will get back to you on that” Adams hung up and spread his hands as if saying well here we are should we go or he should come? But his audience wanted more than spread hands.

“What did he say” David asked.

“What… you mean you guys didn’t hear him. He was on damn speakers guys” he asked with frustration. When he saw they were having none of his whining, he did the reporting he had so much tried to avoid.

“So what do we do? Go there or have him come here” he spread his hands again.

“we definitely don’t know him, we can’t bring him to where we stay house, for all I fear, he could be part of what is left of Barnabas’ men, they could staging a comeback. We should go to them” David said looking worried

“Maybe we should not have made that call.” He regretted.

“What if he is what you say he is, wouldn’t we be simply walking into the lion’s den by going to them we can just ignore him,” Adams countered.

“Ok, I say we take Zaccheus and Michael along, Cenz would probably identify him… he’s been in that world before and Michael, you know is a police man.” Jaye said and took the phone from Adams. He put a call through to Michael.

“I don’t think he is harmful” Bisi entered with a whole new perspective.

“Maybe all you are just being paranoid, I mean no one would blame you for that given your experience but this guy always checked on you when you were in…” she didn’t want to say jail. She just brushed past it.

“I mean he has shown how harmless he is.” She submitted.

Adams laughed rather sarcastically.

“Of course he is harmless. You are a woman, no one would blame you for trusting too easily,” he said and sat beside her.

“No one is saying you are wrong, even if you are. A woman is always allowed to be wrong, that is why we men are here. See all he did for our friend could be acting, could be trying to gain his trust” he said softly to Bisi. Well, it was a loud kind of soft talk.

He saw the spite on Bisi’s face and shook his head.

“You don’t get it, but I hope one day you will.” He said and threw his head back, looking at the ceiling fan running above him.

Bisi never liked this kind of guys. Guys who think they were superior to women but indeed carry around a chicken’s brain.

“You want to be told how wrong you have been? Well, you see yourself as a man, yet you have done more wrong than right in your life. You can never make up for the bad things you have done, no matter how hard you try.” Bisi fired.

“Come on you two don’t be stupid” Jaye said and stood up in frustration.

“You guys suck. You all have made mistakes, I have too. But I’m not ready to dwell in the past. You should learn from your silly mistakes and grow up. We have come here to make me come alive, yet you keep acting silly, always attempting to plunge me back into the dead. If not for my own will to survive, you would not have helped a bit. I could say, I would survive on my own but you all are still my friends. I know you and you know me. No matter how stupid you all are, I’d still prefer you. Yes we are all different in our own ways but those differences should not be abused, we should learn from and make the most use of them, most of the things that happened could have been avoided, had we not chose to play God; instead of sharing our dreams and fears, we played around and tried to fix each other’s lives even without the consent of the owner of the life himself. Going forward, that has to stop. We need to act as a team, be transparent and committed. We have come a long way; we have endured the strongest of challenges, now we can’t afford to fall like a pack of cards. It’s too late for that.” Jaye said and sighed.

Absolute silence reigned as he finally arrived. Everyone including Jaye had their sorry faces on. Mouths grew heavy and no one would speak first. David was sure if anyone would say something to all Jaye had said, he had to make a lot of sense.

Apparently, no one was willing to take on that challenge. Jaye however, motioned them to come to him. They hugged in group and remained there until they heard claps behind them. The claps thankfully rescued them from the awkward silence.

Michael and Zaccheus had entered when Jaye was midway through his speech, and everyone had been so engrossed that they didn’t notice their presence.

“Ok, that’s not bad for a family” Michael said taking a spot on the chair.

His butt barely hit the cushion when Jaye pulled him back up.

“No need for that” he pointed at the seat, “we have a date to honour.” He informed him.

Zaccheus was not so moved by the speech thing, he was only interested in the speechmaker.

“This is a miracle, isn’t it?” he asked himself. He was surprised by the transformation that had happened to Jaye. He had suddenly became clean, handsome and clearheaded. Wow!

The friends dusted up their sorry faces and they all headed for Austin’s house.

Good Morning Y'all!

Forty Four

Forty Four

Chinedu Austin was really not a stranger. Though he was not there when it all started he had been brought up to date. He came into the story the day he hit Hadiza with his car. He actually thought he had killed someone.

Hadiza had lost consciousness before the brake could eventually work. It was when she regained consciousness at the hospital that Hadiza told her story and begged him to protect her. If she could be pronounced dead, no one would be able to harass her anymore.
She had become restless since she knew Jaye was free and Barnabas and his cohorts had been incarcerated. She knew she could move freely again with Barnabas and Ali behind bars but she didn’t want to move, she only wanted to see Jaye.

Her best shot at seeing him was if he called Austin and arranged a meeting since neither she nor Austin had an address or phone number. She waited every second, every day to hear from him.

So, when Austin finally brought words that Jaye was coming, she almost went mad for Joy. She washed her face every other minute for new makeup and changed cloths after cloths. She wanted to appear her best. She was in the middle of another cladding when the man she had been waiting for arrived. She forgot the entire appearance thing, and sprinted out into the arms of her sweetheart.

Everyone except Austin and Jaye were shocked to see Hadiza; Austin couldn’t be shocked. He knew the story. Jaye didn’t know any story, he just didn’t care if it was a ghost he had in his arms.
He had prayed fervently to be able to see her at least in dreams; he craved to see her- in any form. Now, there she was in his arms. It didn’t matter if she was a ghost.
When his head finally cleared and his mouth eventually gathered some strength, he made to ask what was really going on.

“But they said you are...” he was going to ask about her death but Hadiza made sure he couldn’t complete whatever he was going to say. She blocked his mouth by stealing his lips in a deep wet kiss.

“As you can see, I am very much alive. It’s a long story but now is not the time to tell it.” She whispered.
