I just joined Xiaomi train last month. I never got to experience MIUI 8 but those are 2 different versions of Android so......
They are not necessarily different android versions bro! Some xiaomi devices are still on android 5 lollipop and they've been update to MiUi 9.
The MiUi version takes the front seat in terms of priorities for Xiaomi software engineers. As an example, the Xiaomi Redmi note 3 mtk version has never been officially updated higher than android 6 marshmallow and it has prolly been updated to MiUi 9.
For the sake of newbies joining the thread, let's try to state things close to facts and not hearsay.

Na wa o, the debate for updating of xiaomi phone this days na something else.
I do believe xiaomi provide 2 set of update (weekly update and stable update) the weekly update is meant for those set of users that love to get the taste of any new features and the stable set of users are those that opt for a bug free rom and are not concern about new features but the update come probably 1 or 2 month.
The stable rom to me, according to its name are thoroughly tested and examine before hitting the general public while the weekly are given on a weekly basic without thorough testing. I wonder why some are scared of updating their device with stable update.
Am planning of applying for a beta tester team once i park my ajo and get either redmi 5 plus or redmi note 5 pro grin because I love to get the latest features

Someone loves you. grin

It's not even just that MIUI 9 has bugs, every version would have some bugs, rather it's the fact that you're upgrading from the MIUI 8 you've already used for a while to the MIUI 9 via OTA. Xiaomi updates come with greater risks than any other phone I've used. Sometimes, it's so bad that Xiaomi suspend their own updates shortly after releasing them (kinda like Apple) but not quickly enough.

Best to have it shipped with MIUI 9(like mine) or maybe a factory reset before the upgrade might do the trick. Whatever the case may be, make sure you know what to do in event of any catastrophic bug. Cheers!

Oga take it easy oo..
We have been in this game of updates.
There are no problems with update or upgrades..

I have updated MIUI and OS as well without issues.. all the person in question need to do is Clean update/upgrade.

Some are on the MIUI version already, some are even on the most recent update.

You were judging based on what you heard rather than what you have experienced..

I have done OTA, as well as Using the updater all without issues... wink

Thanks thanks. Does it support 3G at least?
why not, every 4g phone must support 3g as well na. Mtn, airtel, 9Mobile's 4g lte are supported along with their 3g and 2g. If glo is your major line, 3g got you covered

the rom works fine for some people. go to miui forum and see people talking good abt it

Oh i know bugs never affect 100% of the users but if it's more than an acceptable percentage and the bug is something people can't live with, that's grounds for suspending an update.

The higher the frequency of the updates, the greater the risk.

If any other brands that i use suddenly decide to push out as many updates(asides security updates) as Xiaomi does, the risks would also increase.

Funny how i've left tech and entered what seems like course work grin

Can you explain what you exactly mean by that bold part? undecided
What you are failing to realise is that you are making assertions far from the fact and when others try to correct you, you end up making it a case of being attacked on the thread.
There are many newbies coming in everyday, now, imagine a case where the first post a newbie reads is one of your misguided statements undecided, the most unfortunate thing on this issue is that you are a reviewer and a lot of people will start taking your words as the correct thing whereas it is the opposite in truth.

I have once advocated for people to be able to air their opinions whether is contrary to popular ones but we should apply wisdom to this. A lot of people are way more knowledgeable than you here especially on Xiaomi matters and that is one thing you are finding hard to accept.

The conversation is a lil long but let me start from here.

Now someone asked me,
lanre316:

How about from MIUI 8 (marshmallow) to MIUI 9 (nougat). Would you advise anyone to upgrade?

Which seems pretty specific to his situation. He asked me because i said this
henry007:

I don't think 100% of the people who update would get crazy bugs either way. It is probably a small percentage and if the upgrade is not from Nougat to Oreo, it's not worth the risk to me.

So for you to enter the conversation and talk about which MIUI version is necessarily slapped on which Android version is basically just some ITK bants that is off point. You need to give it a rest. Never claimed to be smarter than everyone (even though it may seem that way). I'm not responsible for how you feel or your complex. undecided

Well! That was clearly an oversight and I apologize for that, but that explanation is still correct maybe not to the reply but it is. I know you're good with words and bants but you don't have to be rude in your replies cos I can't exactly remember being rude in any of my replies to you on this page.
It is all good, have a productive day ahead.
