If the man knew he would never have paod the fine. Paying $41,000 fine and then deported is double tragedy.
Honestly speaking as a Nigerian resident in Europe, many countries are constantly reviewing their immigration rules making it harder to get permanent residence, even asylum application being turned down, forceful deportation & deportation at the slightest offence.
If only our leaders can put greed aside we have all it takes to excel far beyond many of these countries.
Sadly, look at the budget passed by NASS, they have demonstrated that they are the enemies of Nigeria followed by the governors.
People blame Buhari, yes he has his faults but the worst are NASS and governors who have arrested progress.
If Nigeria is good wetin go make me stay for this open freezer where I dey?
Collect your own share of Abacha loot. THIS SOCIAL SECURITY IS STRICTLY FOR THE UNEMPLOYD LAZY YOOTS

That's the first thing that came to me too. I know guys in chicagoland that gets their blue passport in 7 years after coming here on visiting a visa. Imagine 30 years without citizenship in a liberal country ?. Something is wrong somewhere. Maybe what they say about the village people following some people around is really true. I bet you he's kicking himself right now wherever he is.

How do we know he's telling the truth? What proof is there? Maybe he was there for 30 months and got caught for something else. No one can know the truth without seeing solid evidence.

Thirty four Nigerians were on Wednesday afternoon deported from the United States of America (USA) for "minor offences".

The deportees comprise 32 males and two females who insisted that they did not commit major offences in the US before being sent back to Nigeria.

They were returned to the country through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, aboard a chartered Omni Air International Boeing 767 aircraft.

The aircraft landed on the 18Right of the runway at exactly 14:35pm.

Speaking exclusively to SaharaReporters on behalf of the others, Mr. Olusegun Olatunji, who claimed to have resided in the US for 30 years, accused the US government of illegally deporting him from the country.

He said the only offence he committed was importing herbs, which the US government claimed was counterfeit, from China into the US.

He declared that he was sanctioned with $41,000 for importing the herbs, which he paid, but to his surprise he was still deported alongside others.

Olatunji added that most of the deportees committed traffic offences or overstayed in the US, among other minor offences, which should not have ordinarily warranted their deportation. He lamented that the US government claimed some of them were drug couriers.

He further expressed sadness that in spite of the fact that some of them challenged their impending deportation and had their cases ongoing, they were still deported like major criminals.

“I have been in the US in the past 30 years. Most of us were deported for overstaying visas and some of us have been in the US for years," he said.

"Most of us did not commit any felony or major offences; some of us went to jail for minor offences. Even for traffic offence, you are being deported and a few offences. But they now claimed that we were drug dealers, which is not true.

“I would have spent 30 years in the US by October 18. I have been in the US without any infraction. The only infraction I have was that I ordered merchandise from China, herbs, and they claimed the herbs were counterfeit. That was my so-called offence and I was ordered to pay $41,000, which I paid to the government. They still confiscated the merchandise after paying the sum; despite this, they still deported me. I have never committed any infraction in the US apart from importing these herbs from China.

“Most of us here have cases in different courts in the US, but the government did not allow us to see the resolution of the case. They just took us by force and deported us from the US. This is quite unfortunate.”

Very unlikely except the person got married to a citizen first year he came or joined the Army. Even then, still a tough one

This still happened in spite of Buhari's meeting with Trump.I thought one of the purposes of that meeting was to strengthen our bilateral relations.
Present deportation in US now is not limited to Nigerians alone, there are worse cases where Mothers are being separated from their Children. Where Fathers and Mothers were deported while their little kids remain in US.

Offence is offence nothing is minor

Very wrong. You might have committed many offences without knowing it or the gravity of it.
If you drive can you honestly say all your documents, insurance, extinguisher are all intact? People wondered why I would insist on genuine car insurance considering the cost.

If you import goods from China via online trade, how can you know if the product is fake during ordering? shocked shocked
Crimes have categories. Murder, rape, armed robbery and kidnapping cannot be equated with telling a little lie to escape a fine or unwittingly overspending before realising speed limit, a genuine mistake.

He doesn't know what it takes to survive the challenges in a foreign land. If his uncle tells him the truth, it's either he won't believe or start using it to laugh at him behind his back.

The sense of entitlement some people have is appalling. This same guy wishing his uncle evil will not give a beggar 20 Naira. Yet he expects goodies from his uncle. Imagine his uncle asking this kind of guy to help him do house foundation in Nigeria. His bad belle will not let him do it well if at all. Yet this same guy will use it to mock his uncle that "upon all his donkey years abroad, he doesn't have a plot of land in Nigeria".

People in diaspora should beware of those extended relatives. Most do not wish you well. Only what they can siphon from you or how to mock you. God pass them.

Pray to be in uncle's position instead of bad belle. Another evidence that a man's enemy is within his own home/family. With this bad belle he may never reach the heights of his uncle.
