A failed City...

Lagos is a crisis on the nation's morality. A typical example of how greed and gluttony can lead to the constipation of a city. A nation with over fifteen thousand miles of coastal land and yet must endure the congestion of containers and tankers queued up to pick up their consignments from an overwhelmed wharf in Apapa.

Clogging the city, they besiege the bridges, streets, highways, in dozens of kilometers of logjam. From Lagos-Ibadan express, to Ijora-Seme axis, to costain-Western Avenue, to Eko Bridge heading towards Epe. The queues stretch all the way to Shagamu, through Berger and through Ibafo. They cause untold human carnage in their wake. And all this because a certain class of humans must "eat" all the taxes and revenues "alone".

Dear Lagosians, you are running a hectic and abnormal schedule that puts the question mark on your life expectancy. You have to understand this, the government has to understand as well, that this is not how to run a city. Therefore they should revert this current template and proceed towards development with a human face... - Sailor 20/7/18

We have to come together as a Nation and see how we have been killing ourselves by ourselves just because we want to ensure some people do not rise to their potential.

Democracy must be understood, practised and perfected throughout Nigeria.
Tradditional Rulers must resume their proper roles and rulership in faith and fairness over their tribes.
Fulanis must stop their illegal migrating herding and incursions into the South.
The Laws of Nigeria must be strictly observed by all.
Grant Full Autonomy to The 36 States now and limit F.G to Liaison Services.

Nigeria as presently constituted is a fraud, this is why you see a lot of crazy things happening that defies normal convention in saner climes!

You look at the likes of Singapore, Dubai, China, etc....countries we were either equal with or better than on the eve of 'independence' in 1960, and the enormity of the mess we're in suddenly hits you like a 10 ton truck! shocked

They thought they are doing the East not knowing they are doing themselves.

Every State sharing boundary with the Ocean, should have a deep seaport if Nigeria is a country filled with reasonable human beings.

A good rail system will solve all the problems. Lagos port is definitely not as busy as the Hongkong port( one of the busiest in the world) we never heard of Hong Kong's streets being clogged with trailers.

there are many ways to solve it. One can be to distribute the load in lagos among other already built ports in the country...and that is the cheapest way to solve it.

i must say that kaduna nzeogwu derailed the country with his thoughtless coup...but gowon, obj, buhari, ibb and abacha came together and buried the country. A country with nigeria's population and oil should have at least 2 beautiful cities with high standards of living...but no....the whole nation from sokoto to yenagua...from lagos to calabar...all na shìthole

Attimes I wonder if other regions eg. South East would what Yorubas allow in Lagos if they had the ports instead..

Yorubas are asleep seriously.

Decongest Lagos port, a man from SE or SS will say No. I hope one day we'll wake up from our slumber.

Will the yoro folks bear wat niger delta minorities have borne if u guys have all that oil?

Why will a man from SE or Ss say no about decongesting lagos when thats wat we have been praying for

Kingoftheeast come and destroy this one ok

You need to visit National Assembly and see what SE lawmakers especially are doing.

If I have goods I want to sell in Enugu and Onitsha, why would I import through Lagos? Makes more sense to import it through Portharcourt or Onne port which is at least 3 times nearer to Enugu than Lagos

To claim ownership of the State maybe..

It took wisdom from a Northerner to move capital away from Lagos. Left for SE and SS, they don't mind choking Lagos and Lagosians to death all in the name of one Nigeria.

To make it short, they are less concerned about progress of any region in Nigeria. Not even SE.

Maybe they are all closet Nnamdi Kanu followers.. who knows

People manufacture all kinds of stupid reasons to play the victim card.

Switzerland has no sea access .It is landlocked as is Ethiopia. Both are doing very well.

You continue parroting the nonsense about policies to hold the East down conveniently forgetting that Eboes are the ones that have awlays ruled this country with their Fulani masters.
In 1960 and 1965 Zik went into alliance with the Fulani.

He did the same n 1979 and 1983 only in 1983 Ojukwu joined them.

On each occasion the Yoruba were in opposition.

The Eboes and the Fulanis ruled this countrry for many years so if there was a deliberate policy to hold anywhere back it was a Fulai/Eboe policy
People just come here talking all kinds of sentimental rubbish with no idea of reality

Why did Goodluck Jonathan not revive the ports in the East or build the Niger bridge..

You folk talk as if importation is more important than anything wthout thinking about HOW to pay for imports/

of course i know u and i know the little brain u own.

In the 60 wen the zik and balewa held sway was the best of times for nigeria and the east. Nigeria was richer than most countries in the world (number 17 in gdp). The east was the fastest growing economy in Africa with oil discovery. Immediately the igbos lost out after the war, the north and west (thru military regimes) came together and killed the country just because they wanted to cut the east to size.

Well it worked and the country is now a shithole.
For the record, apart from ironsi who ruled for 6 months, no igboman has ever been this country's chief executive. And the east as a whole has been in the presidency mostly as vp for a total of 18 years.
Zik- president 6 years
Ironsi- head of state 6 months.
Ekwueme- vp for 4 years
Ebitu ukiwe- vp for 1 year
Goodluck jonathan- vp for 3 yrs and president for 5 years
While the north and the west has been in presidency together for a total of 40 years

The current problem in Lagos is a simple one: The country makes billions of Naira from the port in Lagos and does not realize that it needs to put something back into Lagos. It just takes and takes.
That is the problem. There needs to be a serious application of the derivation priinciple to the Port so that money is used to maintain and develop evacuation infrastructure. Heavy Trucks reduce the Life span of a road and if the roads in Lagos ae not to be a bottle neck they need more attention than any other.

Solution
Next develop night security and night economy. Let the trailers move at night out of Lagos. Under escort if necessary they should pay.

They can stop in any of the neighbouring states.and develop a park there

You're right.. Lagos is giving so much, yet getting nothing in return.

If you can recall, a bill was moved to grant Lagos a special status with similar privileges Rivers and the likes get.. But as expected, the SE. leaders and their senators kicked against it.

Their vague arguement then was that a landlocked Abia or Anambra without ports or pressure must get Special status grant too should Lagos that suffer all the burden get.

They were less bothered about the pressure but concerned about sharing formula.
