couragemurphy: Personally, I know someone who got an offer with NNPC and rejected it...No connections. Though this was years ago, it was still the same way Nigerians practised corruption. But for the anonymity that some of us choose to preserve, we could easliy debunk many negatives people peddle online. 2 Likes |

SIRTee15:Don't mind them o,,,, These are the 10 of spies that said Canaan land is a no go area because of their unbelief and fears..... But Joshua and Caleb were positive and believed it was possible to conquer Canaan. This is still the reason today few people are making it everyday even in difficult times. The others always see the bad sides of every situation and make their decisions based on that. Some still believe Nigeria is still in recession hence they cant make it. 1 Like 1 Share |

GavelSlam: Exactly, I even had to tell them of my own experience and some of my colleagues. But the ones (few) that believed will always come back for testimonies. During my time 50 of us were employed once in 2010 by a major energy company here in Nigeria without knowing anyone. I was even in Benin when I applied, and went to PHC for the 1st time in my life because of the job. Till today the few people that believe like Caleb and Joshua are making it big time in Nigeria. Like today I even posted on this thread earlier of ExxonMobil currently recruiting......but many of them as usual will not even apply but will be quick to speak thrash 2 Likes 1 Share |

PeacenLove2: Guy it is not about bad package. Its about humanity. If you are paid #500K by an outsourcing company and your real worth is #2million, is it fair to you?. We shortchange government via taxation and even royals when we encourage oil majors to outsource jobs. The government needs to put in stringent laws to compel oil majors to employ. Workers in outsourcing companies work offshore from month to month and some even work till pensionable age as casual for a oil major, but are being paid by an outsourcing firm. There should be law prohibiting a worker from working for a oil major for more than six months all in the name of outsourcing. When a worker dies offshore, oil majors will say you aren't working for them. The outsourcing firm won't pay your family a dine because no laws to compel them. Most outsourcing firms are owned by top managers in oil majors and these firms don't have assets or even an office. All they do is pay you while you work for an oil major. Government needs to act now. 2 Likes 1 Share |

I agree with you, I have been called for aptitude test by Mobil, Schlumberger but people will keep saying it's scam! I am waiting for them to roll out application this year, I know I didn't prepare enough for the tests that's why I missed out. Hint: My CV was really loaded sha, I just packed everything I have done relating to what these companies do. Be saying you cant enter IoC without connection so gbo, is that not how people told you it's hard to enter UI, Unilag, OAU dem? couragemurphy: 3 Likes 1 Share

banio: Believe me, I know how this thing works. But standard outsourcing companies according to even our local laws must have Group life insurance and must be able to pay off workers or their family in the event of accident or death. They must pay pension and remit taxes on your behalf. An outsourcing company that isn't doing this should be investigated and reported to the APPROPRIATE authorities. Those who work offshore get paid extra from Shift/Field Allowances among others depending on the contract terms. I'm not saying it is fair being paid lesser than your worth or what you think you are worth, welcome to the real world, bro! A lot of underemployed people in the system, they don't like it but it is what it is. Yes, many outsourcing companies are so greedy, they can only be deemed to be motivated by the devil himself. Perhaps, if we had laws that can check these people. And llike you said, laws that can protect employees from being under contract for a period not more than 6 months cos lack of job security is pure torture. Perhaps, if our Unions can speak with one voice and stand their grounds no matter what. We do have a long way to go. People who have bills to pay will take any job available out there, screw the terms as long it's paying. We are vulnerable that way and we need laws to protect us. With the current positon of things, it is unfair the pay disparity between full staff and contract staff of a given Oil Major but compared to other sectors like I said and a poverty stricken country that we live in, the compensation is not so bad. If you have an outstanding talent that you feel is not being appreciated as a contract worker, I will advise that you resign and start your own consulting business. Believe me they will be looking for you if you are really worth your salt. That industry is in constant need of able hands, people with real talents. Just use your time as a contact worker there to grow and make the right connections. 5 Likes |

akorakor:Bros is it not better being a contract staff where your monthly take home is roughly about 350k to 400k than being a full time staff with some miserable Nigerian company? The only downside I see in being a contract staff is the job security and some few benefits which one won't enjoy. 2 Likes |

Foxie: I feel you o but truth be told, international companies have standards they usually claim is international. Mind you, this is not a factory settings where you establish solely to be able to access cheap labour. This is the Oil and Gas, exploration and production companies, high standards and expertise are required and people should be adequately compensated. I think the Nigerian Content Laws should further be explored. The government can still do more. I dont blame these foreign countries because don't be surprised that it's your brothers and sisters perpetrating these evil acts. They are the Middle men that needs to be removed. We have them in the IT/Telecom sector too. 1 Like |

PeacenLove2:You're right bro', we(our Nigerian brothers who serve as middle men, as well as our leaders who makes the law) are our problems and not these IOCs. But not withstanding, I'd prefer working as a contract staff with Total E&P Nigeria and gather as much experience as I can till my breakthrough comes and as well earn well above a 150k which seems to be considered as a very high salary by most of our Nigerian companies especially in other sectors. 1 Like |

Agvibrancy: Well not too sure of their pay at present. But during my IT in 2008 with a marginal ("local' ) or indigenous oil company PPL in Delta state. It was up to 100k. For multinationals their pay is very good, up to 300k if not direct staff. But for direct staff, it will be far far better. Marginal oil firms are actually paying well now, I mean oil producing companies and not servicing companies. You can follow up the listed indigenous companies below for job opportunities in your field. Belema oil, Platform Petroleum Ltd Newcross, Panocean, Pilar oil, Midwestern oil n gas, Seplat, etc 3 Likes |
