Construction phase of Seaward Defence Boat 3 has finally began.

Photo showing the Keel of SDB 3

The construction phase for the Seaward Defence Boat III has commenced at the Naval Dockyard Limited. The areas where the fabrication will take place have been readied while all materials are being moved to site. Similarly, the steel plates are currently been cut into different shapes and dimensions with the plasma cutting machine. The project will start with the construction of the inverted hull as a single unit, while the superstructure would be built as a separate entity. Upon completion of both units, they will be welded together to achieve a single compact unit. The various segments of the superstructure will then be fabricated and welded together.

The project is a milestone in the annals of the Nigerian Navy and it is the third vessel of similar characteristics to be built at the Naval Dockyard Limited. The boat which is 43 metres long is a bold attempt at self-reliance in local construction of naval platforms in the Nigerian Navy. The project has an 18 month completion time frame and is expected to be built in the Twin Docks. It will be powered by diesel engines and armed with appropriate naval guns and missiles when completed.

THE SHAMEFUL STORY OF THE UNPAID PENSIONS OF THE EX COLONIAL AFRICAN TROOPS

There's been thousands of films, docs and books on the colonial experience by both the coloniser and colonised-imo,nothing encapsulates the reality of the entire process than the treatment suffered by the loyal African troops. The survivors returned to demobbing and were promised benefits and pensions This photo essay of bloodiest campaigns in Burma is a must see:https://www.aljazeera.com/photo_galleries/programmes/2011829151520656815.html

Btw,the bloodiest campaign of WW2 for the Brits was in Burma. As bad as anything imaginable. Anyway THEY NEVER GOT PAID-AFTER DEMOBILISATION PROMISES WERE MADE;AFTER RESPECTIVE NATIONS GAINED UHURU MORE PROMISES WERE MADE THROUGHOUT THE 80S,90,OOs TIL NOW AN EVER DWINDLING BAND WONDER ALOUD ABOUT THEIR PENSIONS.
Here's a 104 Kenyan ex KAR,Burma survivor.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9pNwPb8ReE

At 2.15 he says the prez personally told him 'money was only for the white troops.' The 11th E African div and 81st W African div took at least 50% of the 30,000 casualties when they retreated back to India.
Disaster followed disaster. Rangoon fell and, in what was to become the longest fighting withdrawal in the history of the British Army, the troops retreating northwards faced problems of sickness and disease, impenetrable jungle, poor roads and constant harassment from the Japanese air force. There were casualties of 30,000 out of a force of 45,000.

Underpaid, underappreciated and unthanked! The lot of the colonial African soldier-Naijjans,ever heard what any of your serving grandfathers said about their pensions? Tell us.

SA troops in heavy DRC ambush/firefight.

The Chief of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) Lt-Gen Solly Shoke has commended SANDF members forming part of the United Nations (UN) Force Intervention Brigade in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) for their bravery during a “severe ambush laid on them by rebels” on Thursday.

The SANDF quick reaction force (QRF) was activated when the “illegal armed group from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF)” launched an attack a DRC Armed Forces (FARDC) base in Ngite, north of Mavivi, which was within the South African battalion’s area of responsibility, the SANDF said in a statement.

The South African peacekeepers on their way to Ngite were ambushed by the ADF and managed to “fight their way through”, and continued to Ngite to reinforce the FARDC.

On arrival, under heavy fire, [a] ferocious fight ensued and the QRF and FARDC fought fiercely and managed to inflict heavy causalities against these ADF. The ADF suffered 23 casualties killed in action (KIA) and over 14 AK 47s, other weapons, and equipment were captured. No KIAs were registered on the QRF, but one member sustained a gunshot wound on the right foot. This SANDF soldier was treated and is in a stable condition,” the SANDF said.

“Their deeds of bravery and committed service in pursuance of peace demonstrate that the SANDF soldiers are well equipped for any task and committed to the realisation of stability on the continent. The chief of the SANDF would like to reassure South Africans that their soldiers have regrouped and resumed their mandate as part of the main force tasked by the United Nations to advance peace and stability in the DRC.

“Having recently honoured the memory of all UN peacekeepers who lost their lives in preserving peace during the UN International Peacekeepers Day on 29 May 2019, as South Africans and peace-loving Africans, we owe it to these brave men and women who fought fearlessly, forcing the ADF to abandon their dead and weapons, in pursuit of peace and stability in the DRC,” the SANDF statement said.

Nigerian Army receives new indigenous MRAP
Erwan de Cherisey, Paris - Jane's Defence Weekly

The Nigerian Army has taken delivery of five improved Proforce Ara mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles in early March, an industry source told Jane’s .

These are now deployed in northeast Nigeria as part of the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign against the militants popularly known as Boko Haram.

The new vehicles are a heavily modified derivative of the original Ara, eight of which were delivered to the Nigerian Army in 2018.

The same industry source said the new variant features significant enhancements, most notably a fully monocoque hull. The previous Ara used a Tatra 2.30 TRK 4×4 truck chassis. Design work began in January 2018 with feedback from the military on the original Aras being used to refine it further.
