Lol different inspiration. I like all what inspired me @ my child hood to like science. movies and others , I learnt basic electronic from jss to ss and later got to knw I need embedded programming knowledge to write embedded system.
I got no one to introduce that to me and it was difficult. but now I'm two years old in programming world. starting with C++ was very very critical grin

I was referring to the way computer science used to be taught in our schools. Plenty of people never got to touch a pc throughout their undergraduate years.
I can see that working if they were only dealing with theory, but practical experience is super important

No specific time...Just study at your own pace but be serious about it

Aside many other things that made me develop interest, one that stood out was my belief to develop a predictive model that correctly predict baba ijebu numbers. And so far, has been challenging...even though I have come to know that there are awesome things you could do with coding.

but as for that one, I must crack am

Baba ijebu grin undecided you don't mean it. I wanted to read only comments, but I had to comment cos of you cheesy Them indians would have done it already cheesy

Nothing is impossible. I have gone as far as meeting great programmers, Data Scientists, and Machine Learning experts. it's doable

I learned it for learning sake, it's not my field but have knowledge of it.

All these HTML Amateurs will come here to comment too, give them a complex site to develop they'll sleep on YouTube.

Don't mind them. No logical thinking, nothing. Word Press, this that... bla bla bla.

Let them come and code in C++, C# then I will take them serious.

Indians are no greater humans or better programmers than we are.
Besides, if we dey measure our abilities with the rest of the, we go amount to nothing.

It's simply because of its mathematical concept. I will continue coding until I die and mine kids will take over from me . Although I started coding late at around 26 years and I'm 27 now
How did you start please? I've been wanting to learn for many years.

guy abeg, enough grammar

that is not a code but a simple coding question that even some starters can solve

a good programmer must understand algorithms, algorithm is coding, so how do you understand and solve problems if you dont know algorithm,

guy, most good programmers are self taught, i dont wanna come and argue here but the best brains even without cs/maths or cum laude have worked and are still working in companies you mention, many of the guys that created those companies didnt even have cs degrees

lilwetdick:

While this is true, you find that most programmers especially those in general applications development (mobile, web) are faced with, monotonous tasks on their day to day job, implement login/logout, fix broken code, add new server, add a create button, remove that "show all users feature" and so on. If any task requires that you do any serious problem solving, there is most likely a library that exists that does it better and faster than you would have done, and is most likely bug free.

Its even a mark of an efficient developer to depend on third party libraries rather than try to write code from scratch. So you can understand why many programmers do not see the need/bother about algorithms.

you must really underrate a computer science degree, i'm not a CS student either, but if i could go back in time, i'd surely pick CS, i plan on doing a masters in CS if things go well.

Let me give you an overview of what cs students learn.
Data structures and algorithms
discrete maths
graph theory, automata theory
operating systems, Networking
Databases, Programming, Dynamic programming and electives in Artificial inteligence, Cryptocurrency e.t.c

Software Engineering students have some other topics added to their syllabus that relates purely to software engineering, Like Software Design and so on.

Self taught guys are just good at a language or framework, CS students are taught to solve problems regardless of language or framework. Framework/Language will come and go, The Fundamentals will always remain, The best programmers aren't self taught, they went to school, forget about Zuckerberg, i heard he wasn't even a badass dev sef.

The bad Guy in his team was D'angelo, the quora guy, that guy has been winning awards since he was in high school, and completed his degree in harvard(or princeton not sure), take a look at the founders of large corporations, all CS grads, and from IVY league schools (Harvard, princeton, stamford), from pinterest to dropbox, to stackoverflow, to wherever. The Zuckerberg story isn't common at all.

Bill gates is another story entirely, he isn't just a programmer, he's a mad ass genius, he even created his own algorithm, pancake flip, during his stay at harvard, i heard its used in biomed engineering or something. Do you know the book the art of computer programming?, check it out.
Bill gates finished the four volumes in 6 months, to even see the book sef from the first page, i wan blind grin grin. So forget bill gate matter.

The best programmers are CS students, There are obviously bad-ass self-taught devs, but these are real mad geniuses, not a guy who picked up java or python and built apps or games. These ones are very good also, certainly, at best decent but levels dey, and they (CS grads) are the ones that built these large corporations like facebook into what they are today, the self-taught founders are just the face of the company.

Learnt programming cos I was bored with playing only video games on my first laptop. So I thought of something new to do with the laptop and that was when I started thinking of how beautiful some websites were and how I could design them and that's how I got here.

I get what you mean. meanwhile I'm a still studying physic not a cs student. but I know algorithm is actually an important part many programmers skip.
I use algorithm with STL library in C++ code but Im still finding time to focus on algorithm and data structure during break.

I am not arguing with you. My point is, just because they can't do a particular thing, or are yet to, doesn't mean we can't.

yeah! your right but the relationship between C/C++ is not like other though! that's why C++ ide always allow C/C++ code. in fact I'll say C++ is C with Oop (object oriented programming)
C is the grandfather and ASM is the ancestor grin
