NGpatriot:

Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State on Wednesday said the joint security outfit, “Amotekun,” initiated by the six governors in the zone would commence work on January 9.

Mr Fayemi, who disclosed this in his New Year message to the people of the state, said the outfit would complement the efforts of the regular security agencies.

”On January 9, 2020, the Western Nigeria Security Network known as ‘Amotekun’ shall commence operations in all the six states in our zone

”Ekiti is very active in this initiative which will go a long way in securing the people and protecting the state

”The fact remains, however, that criminality cannot be totally eradicated even as we are working meticulously at reducing it to the barest minimum in Ekiti State, and the evidence is there for all to see and acknowledge that we are making steady progress

”Since we are not an Island, we are working with neigbouring states to strengthen our security architecture,” he said.

Mr Fayemi also urged community leaders and groups not to allow themselves to be used to cause unnecessary tension that could trigger crisis in the state.

“I have personally kept a close watch on the security situation within and around Ekiti State, and I can assure you that as a government, we are leaving no stone unturned to ensure safety of lives and property in our dear State.

”Ekiti remains one of the safest places to live, work and conduct business in Nigeria.

“Henceforth, I urge our community leaders or groups not to allow themselves to be used to spread fake or unsubstantiated news with a view to setting the residents against themselves or destabilising the peace of the state

”We must encourage our people to report any strange signal or incident, but we must resist the temptation to resort to self-help at any time,” he said.

The governor also stated that the 2020 budget bears eloquent testimonies to his deliberate and honest quest at providing good road network and improving the enabling environment for business concerns.

Mr Fayemi added that residents of the state would continually enjoy affordable education at all levels, good and motorable roads, improved agriculture, social security benefit and development at the grassroots.

The Southwest have always been the pioneer of innovative government policies right from inception.

I hope the other regions follow this pattern and stop behaving like sissies shouting ontop of their voices online when the terrorist Fulanis rape their mothers and sisters.

We will measure their success by second quarter of this year and see if they will live up to expectations.

I don’t understand this your comment ooo. What will the Fulani do when they have hisbah police all over the north?

I think this is a good step by the SW region. Let’s wait for the response of the northerners. We should stop paying attention to the violent threats of northerners because there’s no monopoly of violence anywhere. Things have to change.

Buhari, through ethnic chauvinism is inadvertently laying the ground work for the federalism the south has been asking for. He should have disbanded all the hisbah police in the north but he didn’t —thinking he was aiding Arewa north. Now the south west has been given the justification to set up our much awaited state police in our 6 states.

Let’s see how things will pan out.

Not yet now. There’s still freedom of movement in our constitution. We would get to that point when we fully secede.

In this new year, some people are still posting hateful messages laced with tribal slurs. Una ni dey tire? Why can’t people sit down & think how money will enter this year? I don’t think any comfortable person will be bitter enough to be throwing tribal barbs on the internet.

This is another year
Tone down these harsh words.
The guy has an opinion, everything isn't competition. The "Ametokun" is a bit advanced than the forest guard.
Now, the SE should improve theirs to outperform Ametokun by drilling the forest guards on extensive combat modules like the US SEAL.
That's how the growth keeps on till we get there.

If it really is a Yoruba word for the leopard, why have you literally translated "amọtẹkun", as One who knows as much as the Lion? Why then are you typing lion instead of leopard? I mean, whats "Lion" doing in there, your comment, hmm Matrixme? Lion, is what you have as your profile pic, lol, not leopard nau, lol

Anyway sha, "ẹkun," in yoruba parlance, actually is leopard, while its "kiniun" or "ogidan" that is lion
"Ẹkun," also signifies and/or means a strong man hunter, hence, the saying "ọmọ ẹkun" that loosely translated, means "child or kid of a strong man hunter"

As for tiger, there's no Yoruba word for it, as we dont have tigers in Africa but "ologini" is used for cats though.

Now, so just to make it a little more confusing, how about in yoruba parlance, "Ẹkun," is leopard and "Amọtẹkun" is cheetah. Of course, you can see why cheetah is called "amọtẹkun". It is because, from a distance, the cheetah, physically looks just as much like a leopard, lol, its the cheetah's smaller size that gives it away, and makes it, not to be mistaken for a leopard, lol
