Here is my advice build that house and apply for the USA visa . With less than 10m u can build a nice apartment in Benin city that should act as a back up plan .You can give it as rent and make more funds even while u are away ur parents can help u collect the rent . In this way even if God forbid USA does not work u did not lose out completely .

Nice but what type of business?

But sincerely, part of the reason why i want to leave is safety of my life and my sanity.

I want my future kids to come into the world in a sane environment with top class Education.

I feel with me in the USA, i will be opening doors and opportunity for my siblings which are in school right now.

One of my sisters is studying as a nurse, i want her to work in USA as a professional Nurse and i feel with me establishing myself there, if will be possible.

I don't think about myself only, as the eldest child and son, i want the best life for my siblings, so my parents will be proud of me, i want my parents to visit me freely In USA and i feel this 20 million naira is GOD answering my prayers.

Hope you understand?

Everything you say is true interms of opportunities but at the same time as someone who likes in yankee usa it not all that to be quite honest everybody acts the same and look the same as has that individualistic selfish culture in america that i really hate. America is all about identity politics and how you can screw somebody over to claim wealth and resources it probably the same in europe. As the population increases the scare the jobs become most black and africans are doing menial jobs. i remember here in bay area california i met a igbo guy as bux driver and i know many Nigerian doing taxi driver. yes there are african in tech but that number is only 3 percent of over 12 million black population in the usa

Hello Brodapounds,

With all due respect, it is not a good idea to ask strangers for advice considering you’re about to make a life changing decision. I am based in Germany and tbh, it isn’t rosy anywhere in the world, especially for immigrants. But, Europe and any other first class country is better than Nigeria by a million years distance.

Brother, even with the 20m, you’re a sickness away from being broke. Think of your kids (as you’ve said). Does Nigeria have health insurance if things aren’t going well? What safety measures is the government putting in place for its citizens? Kidnapping and robbery are still the order of the day! Police harassment nko?

In Germany, there is racism. I am the first to admit that. But the police and the government here will stand by you if you ever make an official report. The community of people here are sane people. They might not like you, but they will tolerate you. There is compulsory health insurance for every resident. The infrastructures here? You can’t stay in Nigeria bro.

Now, you will make a decision. Not for yourself or your siblings, but for your future kids. I won’t tell you what that decision should be.

I’ll tell you one last thing. A year or two back, I lost a very dear friend to the petrol tanker explosion at Otedola bridge, Lagos.

He was in his own car!

He works in prestigious firm and makes about half a million monthly!

Nigeria killed him so easily.

I pray for you to make the best decision for your future. Amen.

with 20 million Naira you can start a very good business. Please do not make the mistake of using your money to travel abroad. There is nothing there.

stay in Nigeria, invest the money, after 2-3 when you have made profit you can now travel to USA, UK and other advanced country for vacation.

but to live in USA?? is a big no

like which business?

My own candid opinion
Please go but.....
Acquire several land properties here in Nigeria before leaving, in a good place where you can easily resell.
This is something you can fall back on if anything doesn’t go well over there.
Your family can take care of the land.
If abroad is stable and you don’t want to come back you can easily sell your land and get your money back and start all over.
It simply means you are not putting all your eggs in one basket.

That money you have is good to start something in Nigeria but pls pls pls for the sake of your future kids.... don’t stay. Go and explore

I hope my opinion is helpful

Hey guys being on NL for years but first time and commenting on a post I just have to comment

And for a non graduate as this,it'll be even tougher. I see no reason to go down dis path...america can wait,it's no promise land,it's just a country

Was it easy here to Have made that 20m? Hell no. He is a young man.. Let him go out and explore America. Heck with 6m of that money he can go to Germany and study comfortably and still have change

Hello dear nairalanders.

Please I'm going through a state of mental confusion.

Currently i have approximately 20 million and 300 thousand naira in my bank account.

I have two thoughts.

1) I am 25 years old but I'm not a university graduate, i only have ND (National deploma) from a polytechnic In Edo state, Auchi precisely.

I would have become a graduate years ago but after my "ND" years ago, i refused to go back to school and i decided to hustle for money.

Most of my classmates in school back then are all graduates but all the same, looking at my bank account now, i have no regrets.

So this is what i plan on doing.

1) Can i further my Education In any university in the United States with the money and plan on staying back after my degree, for the fact that I'm 25.
Will that be advisable?

2) should i stay back in Nigeria and use part of the money to build a house In my hometown in Benin and use the rest for business?

3) Is there a chance of going to USA and start all over again, look for job.
Will the money be enough to rent a house, foot some bills untill i see a job in the USA.

Note i choose USA only because it's my dream country, I'm not scared of the traveling ban because I'm 100% confident that it will be taken away few months from now.

Please i won't be replying any mention or questions.

All i want is to take note of good advice.

I already know a reliable traveling agent.

Please other suggestions are welcomed apart from mine.

20million is just $56,600.

With a master degree in STEM in USA, you will make that money in 6-7 month before tax.

If you have a sure way of leaving Nigeria to either Canada or USA, you better take the chances now.

Facebook for example give signing bonus ranging from $56,000 - $100,000. Let me paraphrase this, it means when you get a job from Facebook, they pay you this amount for just agreeing to work for them.

Have sense this year naa

Do they spend it in Naira?

Split your money into two, invest half into stocks of a very stable company, NB , MTN, FirstBank, GTB etc and use the rest to relocate to US and start your new hustling, if you can make 20 million hustling in Nigeria, chances are you would make 100 million in US because US is for smart thinkers and not dull people.. incase if things don't work out in US you can always fall back to your 10million naira stock

PS: before listening to people telling you to do business, 90% of all start ups in Nigeria don't survive the 3 years mark, forex changes, bad government policy, fraudulent staffs and all would finish your capital

.
Best Advice I’ve seen so far
God bless ur intelligence

Best bet is to look for a filling station in a strategic location to lease. Trust me, in 2-4 years, you will triple that amount, but I must also tell you that you must be ready to do what or belong to what they belong to.

If I were you, I wouldn't consider going to the US for now.

Based on the following reasons;

The US has got an adamant president who happens to be the begotten son of ''Talk and Do''.

His campaign promises are hugely on the war against illegal immigrants and precisely Nigerians. Trump isn't going back, brother. Don't be hopeful on that. For every black man you see in America, be 85℅ sure he is a Nigerian. Trump is also being hard on countries with terrorism issues. You can only except more harsh decisions from this great president.

The EU also is also banning us, which means that Canada and Australia will be over flooded by Nigerians, they will also react within a little time.

I ADVISE that you let your travelling be about a tour of countries on business purposes not for permanent residency.

But before that, you must have a dependable business on this soil first.

Dependable business are businesses of low risks and also remain lucrative for a life time like Real Estate...

Buying a building of 8Million Naira in Lagos and also rebuilding it for rentals to shop/flat apartments 300-350k per tenant will be nice.

25years from now,

you'll still be having your hands stretched forth annually for your yearly dues from all tenants.

With the income made from this building, you can explore other businesses, travel with no fear of being financially doomed in the future.

I am also like you, I desperately want a way out of this country over anything else, but with this travel bans from countries here and there.

I will only wait to settle well...

A deportee with an asset of 20Million on his home soil is far better than a deportee with an enviable Instagram page and travel stories waiting to be shared.

God will usher your steps, bro.

If you get visa and a good connection here in yankee that money can settle you and you can save that money back in three years. You get in here , find a good girl and marry to get your papers. If you can get visa come to America no looking back. I have been here for a while no regret , you can never be broke again in life. Forget story. Nigeria is a hopeless nation, I have to rushed back after visiting two years ago.

see my brother let me just say this Nigeria is a bad country no doubt but just get a fertile land get all necessary paper fence it and plant cash crops with that 3 million will do that and you will thank me after 10 years. your children and grandchildren will pay for you
this is a good business but most people don't have knowledge of it....planting of cash crops like palm oil tree is a good idea.. most of them are not even up to 10yrs, with a single harvest, one could generate all the money one had invested.

I know someone in my area that have palm oil farm, he used to extract more than 1thousand of 25liters of palm oil every year.

there are a lots of things that could be generated from palm oil trees, such as palm kernel, oil, the kernel could also be converted into body and hair dream.. a lots more, this is d business I'll do if I have the money, may God help me.

I wonder how you made that money, not to spite or anything.
But your mindset is poor. To make that sort of amount, you would have needed to go through a mental shift, what makes you feel (not think, cos i feel you are thinking with emotions) you can't make triple of that here in Nigeria? if that money was purely legal.
Before you even had time to come here to ask for opinion.

Ideas, business opportunities would have been knocking themselves over to get your attention.
The greatest asset a man can have is his mindset and Brain.
But
If you feel going to the states will be that answer, you are free.
But the state isn't what it has been painted to be.
I know of someone who worked here in Nigeria as one of the top managers in Nigeria for an insurance company, had her own company car and all, with masters in business, she has properties here in Nigeria, but got to the states and worked as a social worker for elderly people, her grace is the fact she has passive income here in Nigeria. Before she can enter their mainstream labour market, she needs to get another certificate over there.

My own dream is to stay in my home country and make it, that doesn't mean you can't travel on vacations or business trips. You will even be accorded more respect, cos you are bringing in revenue for them not leeching on their system. Your ND might be counted as high school cert.

Be Wise.
