Oga, Akoko Edo is not the only side of Edo State that bear Yoruba names, why are you lying? They bear Yoruba names Sabongida Ora too. Femi Ogedengbe and Modupe Ozolua come to mind.

They are born Yoruba as far as I know except the one born outside Yorubaland. It doesn't matter if their parents hail from elsewhere. I am more surprised by Fathia Balogun. No way I would have guessed.

Guy, stop spreading falsehood. Benin people are Not yoruba. They are a separate and distinct ethnicity. The only yoruba link they have starts and ends with their monarchy. Only the Oba of Benin and the Benin monarchy have Yoruba bloodline via Oranmiyan. Outside of the monarchy, Benin people are a distinct ethnic group from Yorubas in every ramification, so stop trying to rewrite their history or form attache by force. Respect their distinctiveness.

I also hate it when my Yoruba people call Benin people Yoruba, that's disrespectful. But there are many places in Edo State where they speak Yoruba/bear Yoruba names. The people of Sabongida Ora bear Yoruba names. They speak Yoruba and bear Yoruba names in Akoko Edo. The people of Usen still speak Yoruba and also bear Yoruba names. Usen people came from Ile Ife; their king is Elawure (Olu Awure).

The title OBA as used in Benin is a Yoruba word. Akoko Edo people speak (as second language)and bear Yoruba names just like their neighbours in Ogori/Magongo in Kogi. There was no Benin empire rather Benin Kingdom and no Yoruba people were captured by any Benin

The term "Oba" was borrowed from Benin.

Oba is a pure Benin name.

Oba is shining. As in the shining light of Benin. More correctly "Omo n'Oba n'Edo, uku akpolokpplo". Oba Can be used to describe red or ododo. What is the real meaning of the title "Oba" in Yoruba? Alafin, OOni, Olu, Owa, etc all have a meaning that we know.

Oba is even a shortened form. An extra title is "Ogie" or Lord. But because dukes and senior chiefs can also use that title, ogie is less used for Oba.

Other titles in Southern Nigeria that came from Benin world "ogie" are Ogiame as in the original title of Olu of Warri, Onojie (from ogie/enogie) used in Esanland, Ovie or Orodje used in Urhobo and Isoko land.

I am sure if Isoko, Esan, Itsekhiri had become majority tribes over time, some would now the arguing that Benin borrowed Ogie word from them.

Benin do not just do things with historical details behind it.

Having said that, Benin, Igbo, Yoruba, Fon, Ewe and others are from same language group: Volta-Niger/East Kwa/West-Benue branch of Niger-Congo group. Some remnants of the archaic ur-language must have remained in some words.

Oga Oba is a Yoruba term. Oba started with the kingship of Oranmiyan. You guys used Ogie before Oranmiyan.

Oba is a generic term for Yoruba Kings who all have their own personal titles. Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi; Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Adeyemi; Awujale of Ijebu, Oba Adetona; Alake of Egbaland, Oba Gbadebo etc. Stop being ignorant.

Typical Osu IPOB Igbo. So ignorant and proud of it. The Ana Ife people of Atakpame and Kambole must be from Potopoto Arochukwu.

Shut up, Potopoto Osu IPOB pig! Lagos was a cosmopolitan city that has been welcoming foreigners even as far back as the the 18th century. European traders as well as Yorubas who returned from Brazil, Cuba and Sierra Leone already made Lagos the cynosure of all eyes. The first schools, buildings, mosques, educationists were already in Lagos long before your Osu ancestors brought their "stateless" asses over here.

The non Igbo among them left the Igbo dominated English movie because of discrimination and joined the Yoruba movie industry where they were fully accepted. They became more famous in the Yoruba movie and some of them even became producers something they couldn't achieve in the Igbo dominated English movie industry.
Even Alex Osifor is now fully into Yoruba movie industry.

Dude stop being half-smart and dishonest. Usen people were not born in Yorubaland neither were their parents born in Yorubaland. Usen people are located in Ovia South West of Edo State. The reason they bear Yoruba names and speak Yoruba language is because they haven't forgotten their Yoruba (Ile Ife) roots. Their King is Olu Awure (Elawure). Many families in Sabongida Ora bear Yoruba names like Ogedengbe and Idowu, not because their parents grew up in Yorubaland. Take your ignorance or dishonesty elsewhere.

Well Anjorin means "we walking together" or friends in Yoruba I don't know about Egun. This Egun use Yoruba names too but I know is that she said it herself in a video interview that she is Egun from Badagry. We have Egun tenants with the surname Bamgbose.

Most of these guys are Lagos born, so is understandable if they adopt to their surrounding but saying that nothing differentiate people of old Bendel with Yurubas are complete fallacy, I am from Delta but we don't share same culture with Yurubas in Delta North, I can't speak for the rest though.

It's no news that Edo and Delta people love Yorubas like kilode and we love them too.

I never knew Toyin Abraham is not Yoruba. Funny thing is they bear Yoruba names and identify with Yorubas easily.

Pre-colonial times, the Yorubas were once part of the Edo kingdom.

Don't believe me, do some research and also read the book of the first slave author, Olaudah Equiano Gustavus Vassa.
