Nothing would work because we are greedy, corrupt and irrational people.

We don't believe in logic rather conspiracy theories.

We don't believe in science rather fight for religions that were enforced on us.

We don't believe in sustainability hence the unbridled need to acquire everything.

Africa would never change until logic, science and love becomes the guiding principle upon which every set of action is taken.
true this is just the best description to Africa's problems.

If the type of democracy we have in Nigeria is our solution,I will rather subscribe to Communism.See how china is rising to Alfa Centauri.

China is a capitalist economy with a quasi communist government.

When they were practicing pure communism, they were broker than Sierra Leone.

In 1979, they woke up, and allowed the capitalists to set up. That's why they are prosperous

Plus they value technical and vocational education. Not like Nigeria

No, the civilians too did their bit.

Military rule also wrecked our railway system , and weakened Nitel severely. And made our economy severely dependent on oil.

And you think the army won't form a new looting ruling class as well.? With twice the opression?

Some of you people should read history.
From history, democracy is worse, too much waste, waste money for elections every four years, politicians loot the rest, Nigeria is a.case study, we seem to build more infrastructure in military era than now.

Yes, and the army also wrecked our railway system, and our telecoms system badly,; it is under civilian rule that we have seen both get some development.

The same army also wrecked our diversified economy and made it severely oil dependent.

And the same army also took loans heavily. Heavily.

And let's not forget about how oppressive they were too.

You are idealising army rule because you never lived it

Railway was built under civilian and colonial rule. It was wrecked by the Army.

A good number of public schools were built under civilian rule. So also many state universities too

That's what I am talking about.
Democracy as practiced in Africa has failed to bring development and a corrupt free society.
Africa needs to go back to the drawing board and create a special brand of democracy that will suit us.I watched a wattspp video by one Ghanian pastor. His suggestion was that Africa should step aside democracy for 25 years.Hr said gvt should come up through appointment which should rotate btw the major parties not more 2 or 3.And he said it should be guided by national development plan which should strictly be followed.

No, you need to get up and take part in your democratic process.

You also need to stop demanding free stuff

I lived it, am above 40, the military rule is not as bad as potrayed...what difference with today?
We have 'hate speech' law, and other dictatorial laws...democracy is too expensive for us, house of reps, senate, governors, ministers etc, all looting, the country will never make it.

My brother democracy is just a propaganda, things weren't this hard during military rule, the civilian rule that is supposed to ursher in prosperity only brought hardship to the citizens

And you want to go back to detention without trial, to backdated decrees, to the same old looting and corruption and loan taking, to jailing people for no good reason among other things?

To newspapers being closed for months? And so on?

At least Buhari's hate speech law can be challenged in court. If it was Buhari military, would you have had the chance?

Democratic rule better. Warts and all.

Ghadafi gave Libyans the best of life.

Who said,

Libiya had oil, with little population, gadaffi being a Military power with so much money from oil from his country, all he did was little to camouflage his rule, so he just subsided everything and built infrastructure, there was no wealth in his country, making it look like the people wasnt poor,

The mirage is the money he had in his possession could make libya as beautiful as UAE if he wanted, he made the people lazy, he took privately shop's from other africans forcefully giving it to his lazy people, and deported the Africans

The little population and excess cash made libiya wealthy but economically was poor if dey had d population as nigeria d ugliness of libya would have beem pronounce

Have you noticed that we are still grappling with basic infrastructure like Power,Roads,Rail, Health care and basic social services Education, Security etc since independence.
Our pair countries like Brazil, Pakistan, Malaysia etc have all gone past these development indexes.
Nigeria is currently swimming in the ocean of debt in which corruption is a major contributing factor and I can almost certainly say that 50% if the money borrowed will go to few pockets.

Sometimes,I feel we may do better if North and south go their separate ways.

a lot of African countries governance is based on INDIRECT RULE which in summary means most of the presidents in African countries are european lackeys and do not work for the interest of their countries and that means military rule will not be different.

the military will favor people from their own ethnic nation and that can lead to unrest, protests e.t.c. that can last for years..

if democracy is not working for YOU say it is not working for YOU and not for Africa.

so what's your point sir? Because most African democracies are also based on selection! 'indirect rule'' godfatherism' 'cabals' etc Even in the so called African countries that you speak of they practice a form of government which i believe requires elections or selections to take place after a period of time. So what development has that form of 'indirect rule' brought to those countries who practice it??

Especially in the 1980s and 90s.

It is because you did not live it.

That's because Malaysia and Brazil don't run free gift economies

Plus all those countries you mentioned have a large poor underclass like Nigeria.

If military rule will make things work for them, I am totally in support of it. If democratic rule will not work, I'd kick against it. It's high time we stopped copying the Western world and do something that will work well for us by charting a new course in our continent and country's own growth part. Democracy isn't working for most W. African countries truth be told.

Everything that millitary rule couldnt bring.

Like this? Making poor parents wait for their kids to send money to eat? No benefits, nothing, is life in Nigeria worth living, killings, kidnappings, murders, massacre, in military regime, Bokoharam won’t survive, you know ? Bandits won’t survive. Democracy is not for Africans especially west Africans. Black are too stubborn
