Not a very smart move considering even black people in America disdain actual Africans. Just wear their suit instead of rubbing your culture all over their faces. Just imagine it was an Indian wearing the Dhoti. Or a Chinese or Kenyan wearing their traditional clothing to an inaguration for a public office outside their borders, wouldn't he seem very ridiculous to you?

Unless it is an international body such as IMF, WHO, FIFA etc, it makes absolutely no sense

Not all blacks in America or AA disdain actual Africans.

It is mostly the ignorant ones from the projects and hoods who have that mentality because they believe, that the new generation Africans came over to take opportunities and jobs away from them.

The educated ones don’t have that mentality, because they believe they have what it takes not only to complete with the new generation Africans who are mostly Educated but also with the White folks.

These set of AA are forming more bond and friendship with new generation Africans in the US, because they see more commonalities with them and truly want to know more about their roots and the culture of their fore fathers.

Always conquering, pride of Africa. Can't understand why some will be happy to celebrate when the news is negative and feel bad to hear something good about Nigeria.

this is culture abuse and opportunity abuse. he should be suspended. if you want to represent nigeria, go and do it in your country.
even in nigeria we frown at people that wear their traditional outfits to house of reps meeting or senate. senators should dress like babalawos to senate meeting na. useless people. this is why i like trump. no rubbish man

Thank you for being one of those who see and speak the truth....

Blacks are actual still backward in their culture and reasoning - which explains why THERE IS NO DEVELOPED BLACK MAJORITY COUNTRY to date.. ..

Once America's black population exceeds 50% America will become Nigeria.

This isn't racism it's race realism..... that's why trump was trying to reduce (not stop) blavk immigration.

Blacks are still great in their own way though like in sports and a few intellectuals here and there.

The saddest part is the unique challenge we have of excusing, explaining and rationalizing mediocrity, until we get to the point of thinking societally as against individual interests, progress will remain a mirage and we would continue to seek a home elsewhere from home.
Like u mentioned there are individual sparks of genius here and there spread all over africa but when it comes to administration and collective self management,we are a sorry sight to behold....we need to fix us.

The only ridiculous thing is Loosing yourself while trying to be someone else.

This is one of the reason Africa would never be great until we know from the inside that we are greater.

All the first civilized countries were from Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia and the likes, none of them wore suit to any official gathering until the westernization of the continent began.

Whatever made suit an official dress makes Agbada official too.

How long are we going to remain in the prison of our mind.
They told us our Agbada is not official but their suit.
Our Masquerade are demonic but their Santa.
Our Akamu is not good in office but their Tea
Our Deities are evil yet they bought it all and uses it in a subtle way while doing some great construction works.
When are we going to be delivered of this mind set.

Think and Awake, Dear African

The person you quoted has a point
Wearing a suit is more formal

But him going with agbada is not bad either
Africans dont love their heritage more than asians of the far east
But you will NEVER see them wear Kimono and co to a formal occasion
You wont

So it's a matter of perspectives
Agbada is not formal

Nah, black people in America shouldn’t disdain actual Africans. Indian wearing Dhoti would be annoying since they are JJC's. People taken from Nigeria have been in America since the beginning of America as we know it. No one would begrudge Chinese or Kenyan wearing their traditional clothing to an inauguration for public office although the Kenyan would look silly since their traditional clothing are mostly barely evolved from loin cloths as in the days of Tarzan and Jane.

U guys even manage to squeeze in tribalsim into diaspora politcs, its a shame Africans especially the self acclaimed giants choose to see life from a keyhole perspective...look at a man of african descent given a political office in a place far away from his roots...no discrimination,no fights,no local govt of origin,no hard feelings,no bile...I see my nairalanders celebrating this and I imagine the heads that would roll if we replicate this in our dear continent...we blacks are small minded still.
Before u come for me just know that this is not self hate but pure and sincere honesty coupled with the ability to self evaluate and self criticize wherever and whenever its necessary.
NAMASTE!!!

You are right

Okay sir, does that mean Africa does not have a formal dressing code if not suit that was brought after the westernization?

Rubbish reason. Oga you were elected to serve the American public as an American and not as an African representative. The agbada just makes you look stupid in a country with a civilized democracy, a far cry from what Africa has exhibited since the colonialists left them to themselves.
