Was it propaganda when NBS announced that Nigeria had entered recession last year?

Which of the figures released by NBS do you consider as propaganda?

Recession and Nigeria....hmmmmm

I wish we have the right tools to capture the real data of economic variables!!!!

Recession would then be a word to soften the real situations.

Why is it that any positive news about Nigeria is quickly labeled lies but any negative news is quickly embraced as true?

So, we haven’t exited the recession because the masses are still experiencing hardship, right?

Were the masses experiencing hardship before we entered the recession last year? Is GDP a measurement of masses hardship or general level of productivity?

There is hunger in Nigeria due to unemployment and Buhari will not feel it because he has budgeted #3b for his food alone.

ThierryJay:
Well, the economic indices at the moment actually lend support to what the finance minister said.

The main driver is that somehow and despite all the much publicized negatives, there are still a lot of ongoing economic activities that are stimulating spending (especially in the fmcg and IT/telecomms/fintech sectors). The implementation of the finance act 2020 should further strengthen this course by stimulating more spending within the economy e.g lower duties on cars, lower minimum tax rate, exemption of small companies from income tax and VAT.

Also, more Nigerian diasporans are remitting monies to their people here in lieu of coming home for the holidays.

So I am optimistic that we should indeed exit the recession statistically by first quarter in 2021.

The big question now is the Nigerian riddle ie what goes up may never come down. I fear that even if the parameters such as transportation costs, forex and supply chain logistics improve, the current high price levels might never return to their pre-covid status.

Note: I am not pro-any political party.

I predicted it before (per the bolded). The above was my post back in October 2020, when it was announced that we had officially entered recession. However, this increase in gross income is domiciled in a few hands. Majority of the populace are still groaning under high inflation and unemployment.

Don't let emotion becloud your sense of reasoning.... You buharist always base your argument on paper but not in reality..... If Nigeria really exists recession then the masses will feel the impact.....
