Gbemishile, what part of Lagos is your company located?

That's the best way to start.

Meanwhile, Seun does not want to fix snail-paced Nairaland now.

He probably wants us to dump the site for him like most of us plan to dump Nigeria for Buhari and his minions.

Are you saying everyone living in lagos makes more than 100k
Not at all. Most don't make up to that. The average salary in Lagos is about N45k - N85k. Only a few manage to cross the N100k mark. However, you are more likely to spend a whole lot on either accommodation or transportation, depending on whatever it is one decides.

Rent is quite high in surulere...but if you're single you can co-rent a place with someone (maybe a colleague like you) and spilt the rent between yourselves..it may still be much but you'd spend less on transportation. Also be careful with lagos house agents, most of them are unfortunate.

First of all government jobs are secured...especially federal government job and your promotion is sure ...the salary comes at the appropriate time ...but that doesn't mean you should be comfortable.....because government jobs dey lead to poverty if you are comfortable with it...get more certification and develop yourself
So if you want to go for self contain ..then I support
And always try to differentiate your needs from your want...

Face me I slap you kind of Apartment is not what you should settle for....

I never knew u are this brilliant

Don't use more than 15-25% of your annual pay to service your house rent .(i.e btw 180k-300k)
Also consider the proximity of the house to your place of work because of transport fare..

hello nairalanders.

I am thinking of getting a decent self contain partment in lagos that is close to my work place. I am currently employed with a salary scale of about a 100k, and for now I have no alternative source of income except my current job which is a govt job. I am just scared I might not be able to sustain the rent cus I only have my salary to depend on for now, and I will still have some other commitments like family etc.

I was thinking of getting a decent one room, like a face me I slap u, till am able to gather my home furnitures, and also try to develop myself in terms of certifications, or learning some IT skills, then I can move to a decent self contain. The only fear is the last time I lived that life was my University days.

Can a salary of 100k sustain an apartment here in Lagos?

Your comments are highly welcome

Get someone with like mind, and contribute money to get a room self contain.

This would save you a lot of money.

Is it can. Look for a self contain of about 200-250k . Shared apartments are options to look at too. It gives you a shared sitting room, while still having your room for privacy.

Congrats as you have a job.

Of course it will

Just be saving 20k monthly from your monthly salary and at the end of the year you'll have 240k which I believe will be enough for you to pay the rent

Just be prudent with your fiance, no go dey do show off or compete with people wey pass you

Most importantly, stay away from slay mamas, just get a cool headed girl and date because it won't be good to be without a lady
you are my man

Yes it can

You will be fine. You can get such apartments in many parts of Lagos and 100k monthly will sustain it nice nice. It will even sustain a room self contain apartment. The annual rent for that always ranges between 150 and 220k depending in area, agency fees inclusive. After first year, the annual rent is around 120/150k. Your monthly salary can cover this and you'll be enjoying a good life at it.
. And he/ she will never have a saving. 50 thousands naira monthly salary in Ogun State or Oyo state is better than 120 thousands monthly salary in Lagos.

As long as you are disciplined in your spending, yes you can get a decent apartment with that salary.

Meanwhile, if you intend to purchase a house in Nigeria, see these tips ..
