So far so good, properties that sell for less than five hundred thousand Naira have been scarce on the market. Well a little bird with whom i gossip everyday, has revealed the location of land that sells for as low as two hundred thousand Naira per plot, in Lagos. Don't ask me how i know, just see here for details......

Properties / The Current State Of The Property Market In Nigeria by Propertysearch: 3:42pm On Jan 31, 2013
There have been news that recently, a lot of money has been invested in the property market in Nigeria. Even some rumours have it that the south African based retail outlet 'shoprite' has made plans for serious expansion. This calls for major attention because is means the various developers and investors are seeing something everybody else is not.

As at last year, the property market experienced a major setback that resulted in a back-log of unsold properties. Against the advice of many analysts, these estate developers are pumping huge sums of money into the property market. Does this mean there is the possibility of a better development in the housing sector?

Properties / The Reason Many Houses Will Continue To Be Demolished In Lagos. by Propertysearch: 1:30pm On Jan 08, 2013
A lot of people continue to complain about how their houses have been demolished by the Lagos state Government. They are however unaware of the silly mistakes they made before acquiring their various properties. Owning a property could be problematic if proper decision making was not employed before purchase.

Properties / Quantity Surveyors- The Road To 'el-dorado' Of Real Estate by Propertysearch: 3:40pm On Jan 07, 2013
So far so good, very few people involved in the business of real estate in Nigeria have understood how valuable Quantity surveyors are. A lot of people shy away from owning a property simply because they feel that it's too expensive. This is due to the ignorance of the good, employing the service of a quantity surveyor would do. A quantity surveyor assesses financial risks that might be encountered when carrying out a project and proffers the easiest way out. The quantity surveyor's job is to offer advice that would be both cheap and as inexpensive as possible. The business of real estate is not as expensive as it looks. The major ingredient anyone needs to be successful in any business (real estate especially)is information. This information can be provided by the Quantity surveyor.

Properties / Lagos Island Has More Beautiful Houses Than Lagos Mainland. by Propertysearch: 6:58pm On Dec 28, 2012
The rave about the island is getting on my nerves. I don't know why everyone wants to live in either lekki or ajah or vgc. The mainland has much better looking houses than those on the island.

Properties / Why Every Nigerian Should Have A Nice Crib by Propertysearch: 6:30pm On Dec 27, 2012
As much as many people would want to deny it, your home has to be fine, Behind and on point before you can be considered a big boy in Nigeria. Against the normal saying 'a house doesn't make a home', a solid well furnished 4-bedroom flat in lekki phase 1 beats by far, a one room apartment in a face me i face you compound in mushin (no offence to mushin residents). Living the good life is part of what makes us want to hustle and take a whole lot of crap from our bosses. It is what drives us to do the extraordinary and develop our talents. No one would reject an offer to live in a good house with his or her family.
Having a good house is not an easy task though, it is a product of hard work and planning (especially for those whose dad doesn't have a place on his will for them). It is a symbol of power and financial accomplishment. It is a sign that you beat the useless odds the situation of our 'wahala' infested country has put up. So i advice you to work hard and get a good home or crib. Trust me, nobody in his right mind would disrespect the owner of a beautiful home unnecessarily (except someone with a beef for you). Nigerians who want to break out of the bondage of paying rent to please and please, get a home. Not just any home, a beautiful home.

Properties / The Importance Of Using The Right Colours When Painting A House. by Propertysearch: 3:53pm On Dec 20, 2012
The color of any building largely determines the first impression a new comer would have upon first encounter. The type and intensity of color can affect the mood of the people in contact with a building, creating warmth, calmness, tension or even depression. Many property owners take this important detail for granted. Color could also make a general statement on the taste and personality of an individual.
Choosing the right color is a very essential element of property management. Careful selection should be done so that the right mood and impression would be created .

Properties / The Story Behind Storeys by Propertysearch: 10:06am On Dec 14, 2012
Mr Balogun was almost late for the job interview that helped him become the millionaire he is today. Madam osadolor plans to sell her house because the 5-storey building beside her’s is obstructing the ventilation she used to enjoy up until five years ago. James williams extended the height of his two storey building to five storeys, creating the foundation required for his photocopying business to expand immensely. Such are the stories surrounding many storey and high rise buildings today. While many are able to take advantage of it, others find it offensive.
Creation of structures and houses that extend upwards started during early civilization. Man was able to see the benefits of erecting structures that gave him a better view of his surroundings and maximize space at the same time. Among the uses of storey buildings were protection, a better view of the surroundings, as well as maximising space. However, the many benefits of the tall buildings didn’t come without a price. Cases of loss of lives due to accidents, over-exposure to the elements, as well as greater energy consumption when climbing upwards against gravity were experienced. These inconveniences characterize high rise buildings even till date. Many people find themselves at an inconvenience because their lives are directly or indirectly associated with high rise or storey buildings. Man wants to maximize space, as such, he mostly grabs every opportunity to expand. in this manner, he might ignore certain principles thus creating inconveniences overtime for himself and others. modern technology has so far been able to reduce the disadvantages created by high rise buildings, however some problems remain unsolved. A very good example is the case where Madam Osadolor had her ventilation reduced because a high rise building was located too close to her own. What do we do in this case?
It is important to know that proper consideration should be given to the long-run effect before any storey building is located. Where erroneous sittings have already been made, facilities to help alleviate the situation should be provided (eg, a/c in cases of reduced ventilation, lifts and escalators). It feels good to be able to stand above others, but a repetition of the case of the tower of Babel should be avoided as much as possible.

Politics / Ridiculous - Madam Minister Blames Problems In Our Power Sector On Evil Spirits by Propertysearch: 4:07pm On Nov 30, 2012
On Tuesday, November 29, 2012, one of the most ridiculous statements ever credited to a high ranking public official was recorded. Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Hajiya Zainab Kuchi at her office in Abuja, stunned a delegation of South African investors when she told them that the country’s power sector is being haunted by evil spirits.

To say Kuchi’s superstitious response to the begging question of why Nigeria is in perpetual darkness did not shock the public is to say the least. Not only did the Honourable Minister of Power’s statement successfully reduce her exalted person to a laughing stock, she, by extension put a question tag on her competence and the intellectual reasoning demanded of her office.

For a country with a population of 170,123,740, according to the 2012 CIA World Factbook, Nigeria as of today needs at least 10,000 MW of electricity to adequately cater for her domestic consumption. A further national consumption need of 35,000MW is envisaged by the year 2020. Sadly, the country is still a far cry from meeting her power needs as it is grappling with a dismal power generation of less than 4,000MW.

To put an end to this deficit, successive governments have taken measures to lift the nation out of the darkness and retrogression caused by epileptic power supply, and fashion a credible means to power the country into national growth.

Prominent of such interventions was the Independent Power Project (IPP) started by former President Olusegun Obasanjo’ administration. In a scandalous case of misuse of public funds, some whooping $16 billion meant to generate a meagre 4,000MW, and revitalize the power sector went down the drain without any improvement to electricity supply.

Late President Musa Yar’adua upon taking the oath of office in 2007, prioritized electricity as one of the seven-point agenda his administration sought to vigorously pursue. Posterity will always recollect that the only achievement the late President had in the power sector was increasing electricity tariffs and further compounding the problems in the sector.

President Goodluck Jonathan like his predecessor also promised Nigerians stable electricity. To this effect, his administration embarked on Power Reforms to arrest the ugly trend. In fairness to the Goodluck administration, there was relative stability in power supply, with electricity generation climbing to a record high of 4,237MW in August, until Professor Barth Nnaji was removed as Minister of Power.

Certainly the evil spirits Madam Minister refers to couldn’t be those non-physical creatures committed to causing misery and pains among mankind?Could they be none other than saboteurs perpetually positioned among the powers that be in the power sector? Or profiteers masquerading as contractors

Properties / This Is For The Frustrated Self Employed Nigerian Looking For Office Space.. by Propertysearch: 4:48pm On Nov 15, 2012
Frustrated about getting an office space for your business? Why not set up one from home.

Working from home is now becoming a trend with Nigerians, as many employees and individuals alike are now taking the “Self Employed” status, due to the fact that it is very viable and a lot of people derive self liberty from the option. Setting up a home office can be a really frightening prospect, especially if one is not availed with professional advice and support. So if you are self employed and just starting out and you're probably asking yourself “what does it take to set up an office at home?” you need not worry or look else where, for I will guide you on the steps to take in setting up a home office well suited to your person, so keep reading.

Get steady power supply: I really do not need to emphasize how important getting a steady power supply is if you're to start any business be it from an office or from home in Nigeria. We all know how the power situation is in the country. So the first thing you do is make available a source of power supply, be it a generator, an inverter or any other alternative.

Find the perfect workspace: In finding the perfect workspace, you need to consider the type of business you want to operate from home. Your type of business will determine the level of privacy you can accommodate. Personally, I would suggest you find a dedicated space away from distractions such as the TV, others living in the house and so on. With a dedicated space, you'll be able to separate effectively your business life from your personal life.

Get ample space for your workstation: Space is a very important part of a person's workstation, so make sure you're not cramped in. Give yourself enough room to work.

Select a well lit area: Working in a place not well lit can really affect one's productivity, it could even cause headaches, strain on the eyes and tiredness. So choose a place with appropriate windows so as to let in enough light, as well as enough air for proper ventilation.

Map out your office: For those considering setting up a few office equipments, it is important you measure your office space, in order to keep the space organized and not clogged up with paper work and office equipments.

Save space with multi-purpose equipments: If you're faced with limited space, I would suggest you get equipments or furnitures that can perform more than one task like the all in one printer, scanner, or copier. Better still, you can also get roll-able furnitures that can easily be moved at any time.

Organize your space: Keeping your space organized and tidy will give you a sense of professionalism.

Keep your home office just the way it is: You need to understand that your home office is where you'll be transacting business, so it's important to keep that way. Do not for any reason include distractions like the TV, video games, etc. Unless it is absolutely necessary for your work.

Provide storage: A lot of people who work from home always seem to ignore this step. The fact that you're working from home does not give you any reason not to properly store away your documents and office supplies. A storage space is very necessary if you want to get the maximum satisfaction of a home office.

Romance / Re: Most Embarrassing Moment Of Your Life by Propertysearch: 4:34pm On Nov 15, 2012
Wow!! embarrassing moment. Mine happened today oh!! boy was I embarrassed. The trouser I wore today has an issue with the zipper; each time I sit down, the zipper always tends to come down slightly on its own and for that reason, I'm always concious of pulling it back up. For some reason this afternoon, I stood up and went out of my office to attend to someone. By the time I returned, I had completely forgotten about the zipper and just walked back into the office like that without remembering to pull the Zipper back up. I didn't know that my zipper was completely down and part of my boxer shorts was already visible. The moment I walked in, everybody started smiling; before I knew what was happening, one of the guys in my office couldn't hold it any longer and just burst out laughing, the others followed. I just stood at my desk smiling foolishly and was wondering what was so hilarious. One of my female colleagues then pointed towards my crotch area, immediately I looked down and saw my zipper completely open and a bit of my boxer shorts sticking out. At that moment, I just wanted to crawl into a hole and never come out. Damn!! I was so embarrassed, and to top it all, it was a babe, my office babe that pointed it out to me. cry cry cry
