I saw this plane about two months ago in San Antonio, Texas and I had goosebumps. It was very massive, flying low and majestically. It's the elephant of aircrafts and I wandered how such a large thing could float in the air so easily.

At least 18 people were killed after a small plane skidded off the runway in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu on Wednesday, local officials said.

The pilot, who has been hospitalized, is the sole survivor of the Saurya Airlines crash, said Gyanendra Bhul, a spokesperson for Tribhuvan International Airport. All those on board - 18 Nepalis and a Yemeni citizen - were employees of the carrier, according to police.

Images from Nepal police showed thick smoke billowing from the burning aircraft on the the airport runway.

The aircraft crashed during takeoff from Kathmandu to the city of Pokhara around 11 a.m. local time, Bhul said. The plane was en route for technical maintenance, he added.

“Rescue efforts were started immediately and the situation was brought under control,” the aviation authority said.

The crash once again highlights the dangers of air travel in Nepal, a country often referred to as one of the riskiest places to fly due to multiple factors including its mountainous terrain.

The Himalayan country, home to eight of the world’s 14 highest mountains including Everest, has a record of air accidents. Its weather can change suddenly, and airstrips are typically sited in difficult-to-reach, mountainous areas.

Aircraft with 19 seats or fewer are more likely to have accidents due to these difficulties, according to a 2019 safety report from the Civil Aviation Authority.

While the country has made improvements in safety standards in recent years, challenges remain, and a lack of investment in aging aircraft only adds to the risks of flying.

Last year, Nepal saw its worst plane crash in more than 30 years when at least 68 people died when a Yeti Airlines flight went down near Pokhara.

In May 2022, a Tara Air flight departing from Pokhara crashed into a mountain, killing 22 people.

In early 2018, a US-Bangla Airlines flight from Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka to Kathmandu crashed on landing and caught fire, killing 51 people.

And in 2016, a Tara Air flight crashed while flying the same route as the 2023 crash.

This here you're openly defending is the reason why Nigeria is where she is today. Someone once wrote an article titled 'Manage-It-Like-That', describing the culture and attitude of mediocrity that has enveloped all spheres of our lives as Nigerians. We do not hold ourselves to high standards and always have reasons to defend mediocrity. That is the reason why we are too weak to refuse bad leadership and the resulting consequences it brings to our lives everyday.

If, God forbid, the plane had crashed as a result of the apparent mediocrity in the operations of this particular airline, we would totally be having a different conversation today, and not knowing that those little things we think do not matter actually make the biggest difference.
What has professionalism got to do with a lay back culture of what you can wear to work?

Travel / Plane Crash: Max Air Plane Faces Tyre Bursts While Attempting Takeoff At Yola by Monepoint: 7:47am On Jul 22
On Sunday evening, a Max Air flight NGL1649 carrying 119 passengers and six crew members experienced a major incident during takeoff from Yola Airport in Adamawa State, Nigeria. The Boeing 737 aircraft with registration 5N-ADB suffered multiple tyre bursts during the takeoff roll and subsequent taxiing off the runway.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the passengers and crew. NSIB has dispatched a go-team led by the Director General, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., to visit the incident site and conduct a thorough investigation into the causes of the tyre bursts and ensure all safety protocols were followed.

A Max Airline aircraft experienced a significant incident as it lost six tires during an attempted takeoff from Yola Airport in Adamawa on Sunday evening.

According to Bimbo Oladeji, the airline’s Director of Public and Consumer Protection, the aircraft was carrying 119 passengers and six crew members at the time of the incident.

“This evening, Max Air’s flight NGL1649, a Boeing 737 with registration 5N-ADB, carrying 119 passengers and six crew members, was cleared for takeoff from Yola Airport en route to Abuja,” she said in a statement late Sunday.

“During the takeoff roll, a loud bang was heard, identified as the bursting of the rear gear tyres. Initially, two tyres burst. While attempting to taxi off the runway, the remaining two tyres also burst, rendering the aircraft completely disabled.”

But no person was injured owing to the incident, she said.

“Fortunately, no injuries were reported. A go-team, led by NSIB Director General Captain Alex Badeh Jr., will visit the incident site tomorrow morning to conduct an investigation,” Oladeji said.

This positioning helps the pilot control the wing's position relative to the terminal building and aligns the plane's door with the terminal's door. While some older forms of transport have doors on the right side of the passenger cabin, the pilot's view takes precedence.

as there are always 2 pilots on any planes and the ground crew guides you anyway, the above makes very little sense.

THEY DO THAT BECAUSE THEY ARE ALWAYS EXPECTED TO BERTH USING THE "PORT SIDE"

Travel / Why Do We Board On Aeroplanes From The Left-hand Side by Racoon(m): 5:10pm On Jul 20
The reason for boarding and deplaning passengers from the left-hand side of the plane ✈️ has several explanations. One explanation is based on traditional nautical customs. A U.S. Air Force pilot explained that airports were designed so aircraft could stop in front of the terminal to discharge passengers.

This positioning helps the pilot control the wing's position relative to the terminal building and aligns the plane's door with the terminal's door. While some older forms of transport have doors on the right side of the passenger cabin, the pilot's view takes precedence.

Commercial pilot Andrew Stagg suggests that the practice originates from ships, which have a port side (left) and a starboard side (right). Passengers would embark and disembark through the port side, and airplane and jetway designers followed this convention.

For safety reasons, passenger movement is restricted to one side to prevent confusion. The right side is typically used for fueling, loading, and unloading baggage and cargo, keeping these activities separate from passenger movements.

Most modern planes board and deplane from the left-hand side while technical operations occur on the right-hand side. Until the 1960s, before jet bridges were common, airplanes often parked close to and parallel to the terminal.

With the captain sitting on the left and responsible for taxiing and parking, this configuration allows easier control and judgment. Airplanes are fueled on the right, bags are loaded on the right, and most cleaning and catering vehicles also operate on the right-hand side.

That is not the issue. The question is weather it is right for a internatinal flight to take off from a domestic airport? The answer is NO. Infact, it should be a very serious offence.

You’re the one who hasn’t flown at all baby. If not the you won’t be making such error. The news is talking about people flying into local airports from outside Nigerian airspace and thus avoiding any passport/visa and customs checks.

You can fly from Lagos to Enugu even with an unofficial ID card. That’s how porous local flights are.

Cabo verde air stopped flying to Lagos since COVID.
I did Lagos to JFK through Kenya last November and the whole round trip was less than $900, I booked 2 months ahead tho.

As of the day I booked this current trip, JFK was averagely $300-400 cheaper than IAD

Another cheap one is EWR (Newark, very close NYC)
LegendHero:

I doubt JFK is the cheapest. I’ve traversed USA to Nigeria multiple times and if I don’t fly Delta direct from Atlanta to Nigeria, and want just the cheapest flight, IAD is the cheapest I’ve seen for years.

Maybe things have changed in recent times shar.

There was one that time called Cabo Verde airline, their flight seems cheapest then from IAD when they started but it’s a nonsense plane. I think they are Cape Verde airline.

My advice to you will be
"plan properly"
Nigeria is rough at the moment, but there's no guarantee that wherever u're heading to is full of green pasture.

So plan properly before making the move.

Several folks in the countries u're thinking of may be thinking of coming back to the same country u're trying to leave but just don't know how to raise their flight tickets.

Nigeria is hot right now and no one in diaspora wants to return there with the current economic situation, so research well about where u're going to prevent flying from frying from frying pan to fire.

Good luck bro
keep fooling yourself. Go to the embassy and ask to be deported it's free. plane ticket no reach 500 euros from Canada to Nigeria. The truth is no one wants to come back. Accept that fact
