Religion / Clergymen Ruling Altars, Social Media by Celestialsword: 9:13pm On May 12
In today’s digital age, many churches leverage social media and widespread coverage to enhance their global visibility. Led by young pastors, some of these churches have expanded their physical and virtual audiences, gaining significant popularity online. Faith Ajayi looks at some of these influential young pastors making waves in the digital realm.

Jerry Eze

Jerry Eze is the lead pastor of Streams of Joy International with over sixteen branches spread across Africa, Canada, the United States of America, United Kingdom, since its inception in 2013. He is also the convener of the largest online prayer meeting, New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations popularly known as NSPPD which he started during the Covid-19 period on YouTube and other social media platforms.

He is said to be one of the youngest and richest pastors in Nigeria with over 1.2 million followers on Instagram.

The impact of his media presence has reached global levels as a renowned global institution such as CNN amongst many others has rated Pastor Eze’s YouTube channel as number 1 in the world with factual statistics and as the second most viewed ministry in the world. NSPPD is also ranked as the most-watched live channel in Nigeria (Leading in all parameters: Daily, weekly and monthly) and as the channel with the most live viewers in Nigeria, amongst many others.

Before going into ministry, he worked with the World Bank project on HIV/AIDS and the United Nations Population Fund as a Communications Specialist. In an interview with Sunday PUNCH, he noted the reason why he left his job with the UN. He said, “I realised that there could not be any higher calling than the call of God on one’s life. So, I came to the reality that purpose would always trump any human satisfaction at any time. It was extremely compelling to fulfil the desire of God for my life. When I weighed what I wanted and what God wanted me to do, I realised that destiny was much more important than what I wanted to do for myself. I left the secular job to do the work of God. Meanwhile, at the time nothing was exciting about it (the job). I knew I had a mandate to fulfil for a generation waiting to hear my voice.”

Eze is married to Eno, a lady he met seventeen years ago. He made this known via his social media when celebrating his wife’s birthday in February 2024 in a now-deleted post. He wrote “To the little girl I met at 17 who has blossomed into a virtuous woman. To the young Christian, I knew who has grown to become a fireful vessel in the hands of God. To the shy girl I met who has grown to be a pillar of confidence and boldness.

“Who would not love a woman like you? Onye Oma m from way back, a million words cannot describe all that I have in my heart but on this special day of yours, I pray may history be kind to you. May posterity remember you with joy. Our children – biological and spiritual all over the world will call you blessed.”

The couple is blessed with two children Samara and Jerry (a girl and a boy).

Femi Lazarus

With over 1.3 million followers on Instagram, Femi Lazarus is the lead pastor of Sphere of Light Church and the Principal of the International School of Ministry; a platform through which he has trained ministers from more than thirty nations.

Lazarus founded Sphere of Light Church in June 2018 with branches in Osun State, Kwara State, Rivers State, Abuja, the United Kingdom with its headquarters in Ibadan, Oyo State. The church which began at the Obafemi Awolowo university, Ife, Osun State in 2014 was then known as the ‘Friends of the Word’ ministry.

He also founded Femi Lazarus Ministries Ecumenical, popularly known as FLAME, which includes other institutions like the Campus on Fire Conference, International School of Ministry and Flame Radio.

Lazarus continues to impact lives through other platforms like the ‘School on the Street,’ which he founded to impact the lives of people and was recognized for his contributions. In January 2020, he received an award at the Royal Awards and Leadership Summit Ceremony hosted by the Ooni of Ife Foundation.

In his bid to raise Godly people, he hosts a free mentoring program and conducts a weekly online bible study on telegram. He authored a book titled ‘The Final Move of God’.

Lazarus is a Public Health practitioner by training from Obafemi Awolowo university. He is married to Miracle popularly known as Pastor Mimie who is a public speaker, writer, and a certified relationship, marriage and love coach. Their marriage is blessed with two children.

Jimmy Odukoya:

Oluwajimy Odukoya is the son of the late clergy, Taiwo and his wife Bimbo Odukoya. Jimmy is the lead pastor of Fountain of Life Church, Lagos. He has an active social media presence of over 571 thousand followers on his verified Instagram page. He started his acting career in the entertainment industry in 2016 with ‘Baby Shower’. He acted in the movie, ‘Woman King’ in 2022. Although well-known as an actor, he was officially ordained in September 2023 and later took over as the Lead Pastor of the church after the death of his father.

In a report, he noted that although God had called him into ministry, he had no plan of quitting as an actor. “When I started, people said I couldn’t be a pastor and an actor together. They said the church and the world wouldn’t accept me. If God sends you somewhere, he will clear the path for you. I was there for six years in an industry that is hard to break into. From Nollywood, I moved to Hollywood. God has shown that with him, nothing is impossible. Now, he has asked me to do this (Be a pastor). Whether it’s production, behind the scenes, or in front of the camera, God will figure it out. Although I’m focused on the church now, that doesn’t mean I cannot act. Once an actor, always an actor.”

However, after Jimmy was ordained, there was a controversy about his physical appearance contradicting his role as a Lead Pastor and whether he was the right person for the office.

Addressing the controversy in an interview with BBC Pidgin, he said “God has called me into this new season of my life. All my focus is on the church. This new position is a big responsibility. As for my dreads, most people don’t know I can back up everything I do with scripture. As a pastor, I can tell you that God told Samson in the Bible not to cut his hair, which means long hair is never a bad thing. If you also say the pastor is keeping a beard, I can tell you that the Bible says that when Jesus was tortured, they pulled hair from his face.

“If you say I am putting on earrings, I can tell you that when the children of Israel left Egypt and wanted to make a golden calf, they collected jewellery, earrings and rings from their sons and daughters. You should not use your personal opinion to judge me. A personal opinion is different from saying something is sinful.

“Anybody can do what they want. In 2009, I was ordained as a minister and I became a pastor in 2012. I was the lead pastor of the youth church until 2021.” He added.

Since he resumed as the lead pastor, he has been seen not only as a celebrated man of God but also for his philanthropic contribution to members within and outside the church. He is known for raising finance to support people even during church service.

Beyond his ministry and entertainment career, Jimmy is also a motivational speaker, dancer, and fitness enthusiast. He has demonstrated a wide range of interests.

In 2013, Jimmy married Oluwakemi Odukoya (nee Banjoko) in London and their marriage is blessed with children.

Emmanuel Iren

Emmanuel Iren is another force on social media with over 769 thousand followers on Instagram. He is the founder and the lead pastor of Celebration Church International in Ikeja, Lagos with branches in Lekki, Abuja, River State, Oyo State, and Canada.

For a boy with a history in church, Iren served as a pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God for nine years, which he noted to have an indelible impact on his life. He started from being a drummer boy to representing his zone at Sunday school bible quizzes and at the age of 13, he preached his first ever sermon on a Sunday morning at Teens Week for his then RCCG branch.

In 2011, Iren obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in building technology from Covenant university, Ota, Ogun state and a Master’s in business administration from the university of Lagos. While in school, it was said that he received his ministerial calling and began a fellowship known as Triumphal Youth Fellowship, which he inaugurated at the young age of 22, on November 11, 2012, and in 2014, the fellowship grew under him to become a church renamed the Celebration Church International.

Along with overseeing the Celebration Church International, Iren also oversees an interdenominational bible training school called ‘Manifest Bible Course’ and a daily devotion platform, ‘Triumph30 Devotional’.

As a man of many passions, he is also involved in gospel music and is known as a singer, principal songwriter and the founder of a Christian record label, ‘Outburst Music Group’. He first released his debut album, ‘Kerygma’ in December 2017 and has continued to minister in songs, featuring other gospel artists over the years including his recent song, Agalliao featuring Nathaniel Bassey.

He also authored a book titled ‘Leading Seeks You’.

Like some pastors, he, in 2023 was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Myles university, Benin Republic, as a recognition of his efforts and contributions to society. In April 2020, he was also recognised by the YNaija Church 100 as one of the 100 people who has made a great impact on the body of Christ.

Iren is married to his heartthrob, Laju and their marriage is blessed with four children; Ruby-Grace, Nadia, Nasara, and Kairo Iren. Iren got married to his wife in November 2014 at the age of 24.

Michael Orokpo

Michael Orokpo who has 255 thousand followers on Instagram was born on March 1, 1981 (43 years). He is the founder and President of Encounter Jesus Ministries International in Abuja, Nigeria, founded on November 11, 2021. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Pure Chemistry, a master’s in Physical Chemistry and a doctorate in Chemistry all from Benue State university of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State.

He is known as one of the fiery preachers with a message of revival and deliverance. Although he started his ministerial work at a young age, he was officially ordained a pastor on May 24, 2019, and has continued to impact lives through the gospel.

In an interview with Leke, the son of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Orokpo noted that he was caught in some controversial situations in his previous ministry, and has learned more useful lessons during difficult times than when he was having a good time.

He said, “Where I was serving a lot of controversies came up. People told a lot of lies against me. I had to go and beg the authorities about four times. I pleaded and begged but things boomerang. I became so bitter against the people around me. I sowed seed and respected all people but they wanted me to go down. I began to wonder, is this a church? Is this the house of God?”

But, in the midst of it, he remained committed to ministry so much that he still ministered a day after his brother’s death.

Orokpo is married to his lovely wife, Osenaga Umobuarie. They got married traditionally on April 23, 2021, and had their white wedding on April 24, 2021, at Assemblies of God Church, Ugbowo, Benin City. The couple gave birth to a baby boy on February 7, 2022.

Presidential Amnesty Programme Will Promote Tinubu's Vision Of Sustainable Peace In Niger Delta- Administrator

••• As 26 Amnesty Students Bag First Class In Igbinedion Varsity

The Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Chief Dennis Otuaro, PhD, has expressed commitment to sustaining the peace, security and development in the Niger Delta through the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) in line with the vision of President Bola Tinubu.

This was just as the Vice Chancellor of the Igbinedion university, Prof Lawrence Ezemonye, said that 26 PAP scholarship students in the institution had made first class.

Otuaro spoke when he visited the Igbinedion university, Okada and Benson Idahosa university, Benin, in Edo State to interact with the universities' managements and students on the scholarship of the PAP in the two institutions on Wednesday.

A statement issued by the Special Assistant on Media to the PAP Administrator, quoted Otuaro as saying that he would implement the Amnesty Programme effectively to build confidence in the region and garner support for the Federal Government.

He said, "The Presidential Amnesty Programme is crucial for fostering enduring peace in the Niger Delta. By implementing it efficiently and effectively, we can garner greater support for the Federal Government's efforts to promote security and development in the Niger Delta.

"That is the vision of President Bola Tinubu which I seek to execute. He believes in sustaining the peace of the Niger Delta. With the president’s belief in the Presidential Amnesty Programme, we need to work harder to ensure that the confidence reposed in us is strengthened."

Otuaro acknowledged that the Igbinedion university was the first tertiary educational institution to accept PAP scholarship students, saying that their graduates were part of the success story of the amnesty programme.

The PAP boss said the amnesty programme office would deepen collaboration with its partners with a view to expanding the scope of operations.

He applauded the Founder of Igbinedion university, Chief Gabriel gbinedion and the university's management on their 25th anniversary celebration this year.

Interacting with the PAP scholarship students of both universities, who highlighted some of the challenges they were facing, Otuaro assured them that the amnesty programme office would address the problems accordingly.

He urged them to shun social vices and take their studies seriously in order for them to be declared worthy in character and learning at their graduation.

Ezemoye, in his remarks, said that apart from the 26 first class graduates, many other PAP scholarship students also got distinctions in professional courses like medicine, nursing, medical laboratory, among others.

The VC of Igbinedion university noted that the programme was impacting greatly on the students, saying"we have grown beyond entrepreneurial skills, we have grown character."

The Vice Chancellor commended the PAP for meeting the obligations of the students under scholarship to put them in the vantage position to excel.

He promised a strengthened collaborative relation with the PAP in the area of offering opportunities to students in competitive courses like medicine and surgery, nursing, pharmacy, Law and others especially with the recent increase in its quota of admission.

He said that the institution, which is celebrating its silver jubilee anniversary, ensured that there was no discrimination against amnesty programme students as they share hostels and other facilities with other undergraduates.

Also, the Acting VC of Bishop Idahosa university, Prof. Johnson Oyedeji, said the PAP Administrator was an embodiment of encouragement and hope of better days ahead for the scholarship students as well as the existing partnership.

"We thank God for your life. What we are doing is for national security. We are motivated by a desire to sustain the peace for increased oil production", he said.

The President of the Amnesty Students Association, Wilcox Peremini Zaccheaus, commended the PAP Administrator for being the first administrator to visit the students for interaction and familiarisation.

He thanked the Administrator for the meeting and appealed for increase in their financial and textbook allowances and provision of laptops, among others.

Signed

Mr Igoniko Oduma

Nairaland / General / Beyond Borders: Global Learning At Chennai's International Schools by Chennaitop10: 10:10am On May 07
In the bustling city of Chennai, amidst its rich cultural tapestry and dynamic educational landscape, a quiet revolution is underway within its international schools. Beyond the confines of traditional education, these institutions are pioneering a new approach to learning—one that transcends geographical borders and embraces the interconnectedness of our global society. In this article, we delve into the vibrant world of Chennai's international schools, exploring how they are redefining education through a lens of global citizenship and cross-cultural understanding.

Chennai, known as the gateway to South India, has long been a hub of cultural exchange and economic activity. Its international schools, catering to a diverse population of students from both local and expatriate communities, reflect this cosmopolitan spirit. However, beyond merely catering to a global audience, these schools are actively shaping the next generation of global leaders, equipping them with the skills and mindset needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

Junior colleges in Chennai, India, serve as intermediate institutions between secondary education and university. These colleges typically offer two-year courses that prepare students for higher education. In Chennai, junior colleges are an integral part of the education system, providing students with a bridge between school and university.

Junior colleges in Chennai often specialize in various streams, including science, commerce, and arts. Students can choose their preferred stream based on their interests and career goals. These colleges usually have experienced faculty members who guide students through their academic journey and help them prepare for competitive exams.

At the heart of this educational paradigm shift lies a commitment to fostering global competence among students. From the earliest years of schooling, emphasis is placed not only on academic excellence but also on intercultural understanding, empathy, and communication across differences. This holistic approach to education goes beyond rote memorization, encouraging students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and adapt to diverse perspectives.

One of the hallmarks of Chennai's international schools is their embrace of internationally recognized curricula such as the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. This rigorous and inquiry-based framework challenges students to explore complex global issues, engage with diverse viewpoints, and take action to make a positive difference in the world. Through interdisciplinary coursework, service-learning projects, and international exchanges, students develop a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of global challenges and the importance of collaborative solutions.

Language learning also plays a central role in Chennai's international schools, with many offering a wide array of language options beyond the local languages of Tamil and English. From French and Spanish to Mandarin and Japanese, students have the opportunity to become proficient in multiple languages, enabling them to communicate across cultural boundaries and access a broader range of opportunities in the global marketplace.

Moreover, Chennai's international schools actively foster cross-cultural exchange through partnerships with schools abroad, cultural immersion programs, and participation in international conferences and competitions. These experiences not only broaden students' horizons but also deepen their understanding of their own cultural identity in relation to the wider world.

Despite the emphasis on global perspectives, Chennai's international schools are also deeply rooted in the local community. Many schools actively engage with local NGOs and community organizations, providing students with opportunities to apply their learning in real-world contexts and make a meaningful impact in their own backyard.

By transcending borders and embracing diversity, these institutions are shaping the next generation of leaders who will navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world with empathy, resilience, and a commitment to positive change. Education / Why Do People Pay Money To Buy Professional Courses In Nigerias' Universities? by UNNGRADUATEEE: 1:01pm On May 05
I have been wondering about this since on how people pay exorbitant money to buy admission in Federal universities for mostly medicine, pharmacy or other professional courses? I think this system is already making the qualified students not to get that admission which is subsequently sold away. I use myself as a case study, my jamb score was 300 when I wrote jamb then and I was looking forward to smash Unizik post utme then for medicine and surgery. Then Egboka from Umuchu Anambra state was the Vice-chancellor. I know I was intelligent to pass the post utme to get medicine only for me to see 220 as my post utme results. I was devasted and suicidal then because it seems like my life was over, I cried all night because I knew what I wrote in the post utme. A lecturer that knows my family then promised to help me get the medicine and he later said I have to pay 250k since they are ogas at the top that he has to settle. 250k as of 2013 was a hell big money that could buy Toyota Camry 2002 model then. I didn't have such money so I accepted my fate and rescinded my urge for medical pursuit. That same year, I know of a girl that got pharmacy because her father was a professor in the university and she confided in me by saying that others pay same 250k that I told earlier for any professional course. I think they intentionally fail people in post utme to create space for those that were willing to buy admission. This made me to give up in school for years before going to UNN and applying for chemistry which I got on merit list.

Last year, a friend of mine told me that he paid #700k for his brother to get pharmacy at UNN. Same last year, I know of a girl that paid #700k at Imo state university to study nursing. Just few minutes ago before I wrote this, I overheard a phone conversation of a likely rich man in a bar I am in currently trying to drink a bottle to calm my thinking. In the phone conversation, the man was actually talking to a professor because he kept shouting professor due to network issues. I was around the man's table so I eavesdropped on the phone call and he was told to pay 1 million naira for his child admission into Unizik to study medicine. In the call, the man keep reiterating with a brazen voice that his son scored so low in jamb with a 202 jamb score but I guessed he was assured that the jamb score won't be a problem and that prompted him to say "No problem Prof, I would send it to your account before nightfall". If the man is in Nairaland and read this post then he would know am the one because am the closest person to his table. Well, am leaving the bar few minutes from now.

How are we save in a country where people use money to buy medicine, pharmacy and nursing hereby getting the slot exhausted and depriving the intelligent ones from studying it?

Nairaland / General / Navigating The Pitfalls Of Online Ventures: A Guide To Sustainable Success by Mikel57(m): 1:32pm On May 04
Sometimes I wonder why people have this "what if" situation embedded in their mindset. Do you doubt your abilities?

I chose to be a Marketer (Affiliate), but to tell you the truth, I didn't think for a moment that I would make it or even be the best at it, even though I haven't scratched the surface. My journey in the "make money online" realm started with FREE PLATFORMS, then I ventured into PONZI SCHEMES but didn't succeed. Africans, especially Nigerians, can relate because it's a common practice here.

These are the kind of things lazy teenagers do. Because what they don't know is that they are playing "Risk with Reward." In the end, they tend to regret, cry (sometimes), and get frustrated, wondering why the platform crashed or why it didn't work. This is one of the common problems with the platforms they invest in they often crash, leaving them with little to no profit and they live with it. It pains me to see them face this. I remember a video where Iman Gadzhi mentioned why investment is unwise for beginners - the risk to reward balance. Most beginners always want quick money, something they don't have to stress themselves about. But why do they think this is simpler than investing in a life-changing course, book, training, or mentorship that could change their financial life?

Now I see why marketers advise against indulging in PONZI SCHEMES, even though they're common. Most marketers started there and ended up nowhere until they took up a skill that could change their life.

One thing people don't understand is the potential ahead of them in buying an expensive or cheap course.

Don't get me wrong; people can still buy digital courses/ebooks to learn a skill and benefit nothing from them if the value offered is pointless. So my advice is to take a course but also "Choose your information correctly." If you don't want to buy a course/ebook, you can learn organically, i.e., through YouTube I highly recommend it. YouTube is a learning studio for beginners who do not wish to spend and also it's the second largest search engine after Google. So there's a massive amount of information available. Even I didn't buy a single course, though I had them at my disposal. I used YouTube most of the time and got the value I needed. But those videos aren't as packed with valuable information as a course could provide. That's why I took the UIG Course (Ultimate Income Generator) made by my mentor. Funny enough, you go to university to extend your educational knowledge, so why not take a course?

The most popular online businesses here in Nigeria are PONZI SCHEMES, Content Creation & Affiliate Marketing. I wonder which is getting the upper hand. Affiliate Marketing should, why? It's easier to start, but most people see it as stressful or hard. It can be hard if you don't have the right information and guidance. But what if you do? Can you make the most out of it? Can you be consistent? Another thing people should know is marketers advise against taking affiliate marketing as a "GET RICH QUICK SCHEME " I.e the likes of PONZI SCHEMES. You will fail if you do. Affiliate Marketing is simple if you understand it. Get information, learn it, and implement. I remember a word that the prince of copywriting, Emmanuel Akpe, said, "If you know your onions, you'll eat your suya," meaning, "If you have the right information, you can succeed," no matter the outcome.

Leave PONZI SCHEMES; they won't fetch you anything. They may get you a couple of thousands, not millions but there's always a but. Do you know that you, who's just starting up, is competing against thousands of successful investors who know the tricks, tactics, and truths about those platforms? They would never tell you all they say is invest now while it's early and gain, which makes you an entire loser in the game because you know nothing more than just the basics.

But if you invest your time in learning skills such as Sales and Marketing, Content Creation, Copywriting, Website Design, Graphic Design, Ghostwriting, Social Media Management (SMMA), and more, you stand a chance of being a winner among your peers in the game. No one would give you information on these skills without mentorship or guidance if guidance isn't involved it's entirely a waste. Having a good mentor or advisor in your business is essential for growth.

A good mentor wouldn't lie to you; they'd be ready to reveal their secrets for your success. All you need to do is be attentive and listen to them, and you're on the path to achieving that goal. In cases like sales & marketing and content creation, a good mentor would come in handy.

If you can understand and apply this as a beginner, you will surely succeed.

So choose wisely.

So having said this, I hope this information gives you a push in the right direction to avoid PONZI SCHEMES and anything short of investment as a beginner. If yes, please like, follow, and comment.

And share this with anyone who you think might benefit from this information.

I'll leave you with my word: I await your success, and I'll see you in the next.
