Sports / Ex-super Eagles Striker Reveals How Politics Played Huge Role At The World Cup by UpdateBoss: 2:02pm On Jun 06, 2020 |
If you watched Nigeria play the World Cup at France 98, you would have noticed that there was not really a Super Eagles but what looked like a group of players randomly picked to wear the jerseys of the country. The France 98 World train started with Shaibu Amodu as coach, but he was sacked after a draw at Kenya, replaced with Monday Sinclair who was in turn dropped for Phillipe Troussier. Troussier qualified Nigeria for the World Cup with one game in hand, the away one against Guinea which Nigeria lost 1-0, but the problems with the team started just before that encounter. Jonathan Akpoborie was a member of that team then missed the World Cup in France even though he was joint top scorer in the European Cup Winners Cup that year as his team, VfB Stuttgart got to the final. Akpoborie insists that there was so much politics in the Super Eagles leading to the World Cup in France that he decided on his own not to be part of the charade. Read his interview with Nigerian Footballer here - http://nigerianfootballer.com/2020/06/former-super-eagles-striker-reveals-how-politics-personal-interest-played-huge-role-at-the-world-cup.html |

The Swiss-Italian clearly affirmed the authenticity of Amaju Pinnick as the head of the Nigeria Football Federation and warned that any form implementation done against that recognition puts Nigeria on the verge of a ban. "Amaju Pinnick is the president of the NFF and if any body thinks he can do what he likes, Nigeria stands the risk of being banned. That is very simple and clear. “It is a very clear cut and simple case as far as we are concerned. And we have made this very clear and maybe you can help us transmit it if we didn’t come across very clear enough,” the FIFA head explained. WATCH VIDEO HERE https:///pa14JW-fH The long-running drama between Pinnick and Giwa over who is the boss of the NFF dates back to August 2014 when an NFF election held in Abuja. Several weeks later in September, another election held in Warri, Delta State which Pinnick won, beating the likes of Taiwo Ogunjobi, Dominic Iorfa, Amanze Uchegbulam and Mike Umeh. According to Pulse.ng, these elections in Abuja and Warri have been the bane of Nigerian football in the past four tumultuous years.
