Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the next president of Nigeria. Jagaban is the best man for the job. The incoming president of Nigeria. May God bless him with wisdom to lead the country to the promised land. May he have the courage to usher in peace progress and prosperity. Congratulations in advance

Even if you want to hype him must you now throw jab at the other candidate's son. Seyi Tinubu is also a successful entrepreneur himself so what's the point? You people are just bleeding Obi of his votes in other regions because of your hate. Even those that would want to vote Obi wouldn't do so again because of you people. You are all full of bile and venom. Obi would lose this election not because he's not the most popular but because of you people.
The only hatred I see is that which originates from within Tinubu supporters ranks. The lies you tell in the hope that gullible people will latch on to it is disdainful and honestly shameful.

Stop it. You are losing Tinubu the little votes he still has left. Better still, become Obidient.

If choosing competence over blind hatred, envy and religious partitioning. And also refusing to cower, bend or get swayed in the face of bullies who will rather insult, abuse, attack my ideology, political affliations and interest instead of chasing the daunting task of wooing me convincingly to theirs, makes me an extremist.

Then i rather wallow in my own sheer ecstacy of the alleged political ignorance than engage in politics of hypocrisy, religious segregation, deceit, and duplicity.

Fair assumptions.

Except the Taraba, jigawa and Adamawa.

PDP will win taraba for sure. But you giving Kwankwaso 15% is over-rating. Kwankwaso has little to few followers in taraba. I think we should be having Atiku 50% , Tinubu 30% , Obi 15% , Kwankwaso 5%

Then in adamawa the percentage spacing between the candidate is unreaslistic. Atiku will win the state for sure too. But not on 60-20 scale.
Atiku will have 50% , Tinubu(taking in consideration the in fighting between the Aisha buhari influenced camp vs Nuhu ribadu, but Tinubu will still manage 35% , kwankwso will take 10%, then other parties 5% - Labour party is non-existence there too.

Jigawa will be tight. I think a winner will only emerge here depending on where kwankwanso eventually swings. The thing is kwankwaso may even win the state. Very possible.
But as it stands now. Tinubu 45, kwankwaso 35, Atiku 28% ... Other parties 2% ... labour party is non existence here too, the 2% will be shared between Al-mustapha and other small parties will Northern candidate.
Fair assumptions so long as Obi remains in negative territory. See your head.

BreconHills:
Thank your for your comments. As you might deduce, i am yoruba and possibly one of the older ( not necessarily wiser) members of this foreign. My first election as an adult was the 78-79 elecyion when i was 18/19. I have seen a lot of elections and I have my own idea of the way Nigeria is ultimately headed. The pathway for Nigeria is very narrow and if anything very fragile.

Unfortunately politics is a dirty game played by dirty players. I have no illusions about what the candidates and their supporters are capable of doing. For many supporters this is an emotional exercise in which a personal sense of safety and fear in equal proportion render logic impossible

However, I am a strong believer in regional government. I do not buy into the idea of Nigeria in its current form. I also believe that the aim of yorubas is regional government. The framework is in place with DAWN. Irrespective of which party the governors belong to, it is an ideal that all yorubas subscribe to. I like the non threatening way and the incremental nature of the steps towards federal deceleration being put forward in Bola Tinubu's manifesto. This is the only way to loosen the stranglehold of the centre - fiscal decoupling.

This being the case realpolitik calls on people like myself to consider which candidate opens the most realistic pathway for the advancement of this objective. In my opinion that candidate is Bola Tinubu. I do not base this on the superiority of his candidature only on the arch of history which in my opinion he is himself powerless to resist.

I do not believe that with the current structure of the economy, there is any room for a four year period of exposes and grandstanding. I know that many Nigerian people would love a season of score settlement and blood letting - it will serve no purpose. I believe we need someone who knows where the bodies are buried. I do not think we need a puritanic leader at this stage. Even if we need to hold our noses, we need someone who will weaken the unitary system by coopting the vested interests that have decimated this country. Those forces cannot be taken on directly and yet they cannot be submitted to.

This is why when I consider Atiku and Obi I see two men on extreme opposite mountains who will fail to address the flawed unitary nature of Nigeria - not because they do not understand the need to do so but because in one case there is no desire to do so and in the other, the lack of a national base to do so.

As you can see, I have thought this out and I am afraid we will have to agree to disagree.
Again, thank you so much for the tone you set in outlining your position. I wish Nairaland, including myself, understand that when everybody is yelling, no one is talking. We could learn so much from each other if we simply wear our thinking caps and traffic less on emotions and innuendoes.

I was a kid when you first voted sir, and truly, this is a manifestation of the Igbo proverb, Nwoke tosie, ochelu ibe ya, loosely translated thus: a mature man will also wait for the child to mature.

Like you, I am a strong believer and a proponent of regional government. One of our fathers for who I hold tremendous respect in Nigeria today is Pa Ayo Adebanjo. I completely align with him and those who think that we should return to a regional government and the attendant devolution of power, fiscal responsibilities, and a weak center.

But we yet have a way to get there. I hazard it may not come without blood and tears for obvious reasons.

I also believe that for a society to thrive, the three cardinals of Justice, equity, and fairness must be a currency freely available and legal tender in the lives of the citizenry. This is not the case in Nigeria as presently made up. This goes against the candidate you support (I will not go into details to keep this short).

So, this is where our alignment on the issues ends. I do not align with the idea that Tinubu is the Moses or Joshua of our time. I do not believe that any of the candidates available in this election are capable or intent on transforming Nigeria in the way that will lay the foundation for the renaissance we crave.

1. They are all politicians
2. They must cater to diverse non-aligned interests
3. They are still beholden to vested interests
4. Nigeria continues to be under the stranglehold of a powerful northern oligarchy.

This is why the candidate you support fizzles out as the messiah of our time. If we look past his human shortcomings and which he richly brings with him, we must also interrogate his associations. Tinubu's umbilical cord continues to be tethered to the north, and precisely, the same oligarchs who have ensured that no real restructure of this country will ever see the light of day. His running mate openly boasted to this effect. If I may ask, what happened to the 2014 confab conference report?.

Tinubu definitely knows where the bodies are buried, but so do the others. His opponents are no neophytes. We do not need to cover our noses in the stench of these politician's odious atrocities while they held sway or currently. One must interrogate why we need to recycle failures and somehow hope to still get it right. Where is the logic in this mindset?.

While I do not pretend nor consider the candidate I support to be puritanic, may I also submit that our country in its current form will not benefit from a euphemistic approach. We are too far gone in our entrenched ways that only a systemic but determined balkanization of the current detrimental factors will suffice.

We need an honest man. A man who has age and health to boot, verifiable and requisite education, executive experience in public administration and visible success in the private sector, unassailable integrity and character in the management of public funds and assets, emotional intelligence and so forth. Mr. Peter Obi checks all these boxes in contrast to Alhaji Ahmed Tinubu and Alhaji Atiku Abubarkar.

Therefore, it is safe to assume that we have a way ahead of us. My hope for our country is that we elect the best candidate who will honestly work in the interest of Nigerians. I do not believe that Ahaji Ahmed Tinubu has the will or capacity to usher in the eldorado his manifesto promises if one considers the paucity of needed fiscal resources, our current indebtedness, our credit rating, and his tethering to the very group of persons who by interest and nature are averse to the very principles for which you align to his candidacy.

A real contender is Alhaji Atiku Abubarkar, who aims to sail on the strength of northern bigotry and rural ignorance. He is also a poison pill to the very idea that endears you to Alhaji Ahmed Tinubu. The question is, who is left?.

You know the answer, and with that, I wish you, sir, a lovely Sunday holiday.

We will show you people pepper. Una never see anything! I didn’t want to vote before , but with the way you OBI people have directed this elections, I am going to vote TINUBU for sure! It has become personal, especially in my LAGOS!
The more the merrier, brother. Every democracy thrives on inclusiveness and participation, unlike Tinubu, who has been working to disenfranchise those he does not like or because they are Igbo.

And NO. We will not vote for your thief. Understand this, Nigerians are not rejecting Tinubu because he is Yoruba. You need to get off this emotional blackmail. They are rejecting him en mass because of his antecedents. His journey through life is surrounded and encumbered by graft, corruption, drug dealing, mendacity, state capture, etc. We don't even know his real name and age. Should we also hand Nigeria to him?.

They know what is to befall them should this mistake happen in their lives. Admittedly, while there are no saints in Nigeria politics, we don't need a man arrogant enough that his political calculations include ignoring the same people whose lives he intends to preside over. Whole regions of the same country. How much more arrogant and disdainful do you want him to get?.

Nigerians do not want another old, sick man who will tele-manage their already strained livelihoods from a London sick bed while Seyi Tinubu, Mc Oluomo & co ride roughshod over them. They need a healthy, knowledgeable manager who is constantly on the ground, hands-on, corruption free, resolute, and possesses the right dose of emotional intelligence on the job.

Notice that I called it a job?. This is what it is. Not an entitlement, as Tinubu understands it.

I think you should have just left it at Tinubu supporters. No need to add "yorubas" "Tinubu supporters in the SW" would do nicely.

And by the way my first call was Osinbajo but that not having happened, I plumbed for someone who wouldn't spend his first time floundering around. If there were stronger and more credible candidates against Tinubu I would consider them.
First, I must salute your language modesty. This is a sharp departure from the status quo among Tinubu's supporters.

That said, my use of "yorubas" is to bring home this candidate's public perception. I am sure that he does not think himself to be a regional or ethnic candidate, but his supporters are driving that perception in their obviously voluminous narrative.

You are definitely within your rights to choose a candidate for yourself in this election. And, even if I disagree with your choice of the person who should lead Nigeria after the general elections and I do clearly disagree, we ought to be able to agree to disagree without being disagreeable. It is called respect.

The question we ought to ask is, if a candidate's agents are locking up business premises of perceived political detractors, arbitrarily imposing debilitating levies on these traders and transporters because they are from a certain tribe, or refused to attend political events of the said candidate in a state where he is an overlord, what conclusion can we reasonably reach regarding the said candidate?.

Do you see where I'm headed with this?.

Farooq Kperoggi On Obi

Nigerian Tribune

22nd October, 2023

Excerpts

When Obi ran for governor of Anambra State, he pledged that he would so improve the education in the state that his children would return from the UK to attend Anambra schools. Well, his children not only still live abroad and never went to school in Nigeria, they’re citizens of a foreign country.

As I pointed out when Obi released his presidential campaign list that was riddled with avoidable duplications and omissions, a man who couldn’t be bothered to even look at the list of his campaign council members—or, if he did, didn’t know enough to know people who should be in it—won’t be any different from the people we have had in the past.

The attributes people venerate in him were also projected onto Buhari in 2014/2015. One of my Obi-supporting friends said Obi “Not being greedy or avaricious on issues of money, not being flamboyant by living like a king while millions wallow in poverty, being able to save, being accessible to the people, listening to the people, etc.” are the proofs we need to know that he will be different as a president.

people said exactly the same of Buhari. But see what he became. Being in power is different from seeking power. Attributes such as access, empathy, etc. often disappear as sure as tomorrow’s date when people get to power. I am friends with a man who used to be close to Buhari because he used to tell him uncomfortable but helpful truths. The man’s relationship with Buhari endured only a few months after Buhari became president.

Like Buhari, Obi is popular with a core demographic that is animated by religious and ethnic politics. On ethnic and religious tolerance, his record isn’t different from Buhari’s, according to media reports I’ve read. He called Ngige a Yoruba man in 2013, implying that it’s undesirable to be Yoruba. In 2013, when Idemili women protested after being disenfranchised, Obi said the women were from Osun State in order to delegitimize them.

Obi’s ethnic politics as a governor was so acute that Okey Ndibe called him out on it in several columns, saying in one column that “such appeals to base, ethnic sentiments would return to haunt him if he ever seeks to be a political player at the national level.”

On the issues that really matter, Obi is no different from any politician. It’s people on social media who created this image of Obi as some transformational person when he is just a business-as-usual politician like everybody else.

This is a man whose aide was caught with N250 million cash in 2009 in his lodge when he was a governor. A former banker and a governor holding that much cash is suspicious. His record in human rights isn’t any different from other governors. The Daily Champion of June 20, 2006 reported him as ordering the police to “shoot on sight hoodlums caught perpetrating violence in the city.” What happened to fair trial?

And he lies a lot—like other politicians. He claims he never borrowed as a governor and that he left a surplus when he left office as a governor. Records at the Debt Management Office don’t support this. Anambra’s External Debt was $15 million by December 2007. At the time Obi left office in June 2014, the state’s external debt climbed up to an astronomical $41 million. That’s a 173 percent jump!

And, like other politicians, he is corrupt, too. He invested Anambra state’s money in his family business.

Yet when you point out that he is just as human and as flawed as most politicians, his supporters threaten people with death and coarse invective, like Buharists did—and still do. Critical democratic citizenship isn’t allowed where he is involved.

So, “Obi-dients” are the new Buharists. Better get ready for their rank stupidity and pigheadedness should Peter Obi become president. They’re perpetually angry. They’re narrowminded, verbally primitive, ignorant, tunnel-visioned automatons who think their illiterate trolling can stop people from expressing views that are contrary to theirs.

They constitute a risible horde of unthinking troll brigade on the Internet and are incapable of the most basic level of cognitive complexity. If you’re not one of them, you are against them. If you don’t sacrifice your critical faculty on the altar of Peter Obi political idolatry, you’re against their idol.

If you write any favorable article about Obi, you’re an unflinching patriot, but if you do the same for Obi’s opponents, you’re a paid supporter of their idol’s opponents. They live in a world of Manichean binaries. Nuance is a strange concept to them.

If Satan were to magically emerge today and endorse Obi, they’ll sanctify Satan as Angel Gabriel and sing his praises. They’re that stupid.

They deserve their name. Obedience, after which “Obidience” is modeled, means a dutiful surrender of one’s critical senses to someone in authority, and that’s what Obidients do every waking moment of their miserable lives since they caught the bug of Obimania.
Just to correct your brainwash by another Tinubu paid mouthpiece. Peter Obi has 2 children. His son is an aspiring actor resident in London, while his daughter is a secondary school teacher in Nigeria. Where are the Tinubu girls he stole your money to buy houses in the US and England for?.

I will not bother with the rest of the gibberish contained therein.
