The newly signed Lagos state traffic law banning activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) appeared to have set the state and their former allies on collision course.

The state government and the union had a blossoming relationship as the leaders obviously engaged in political campaigns for the leaders for the ruling action congress of Nigeria in past elections.

A close aide of one of the factional head of the union told Gistmaster News that the ban is the “height of political ridicule of a union that played pivotal role in getting assisting the Action Congress to power.Fashola must be joking because it won’t work.No official statement but we are working on it”

The state Commissioner of Transport,Mr. Kayode Opeifa who made the announcement on behalf of the Governor Babatunde Fashola told newsmen thatthe new traffic is part of effort to bring sanity to Lagos transport system.He said union activities have been banned from the garage and no touts would also be allowed to stampede commuter buses.

Already, consultations have started going on among fashional leaders of the NURTW. Those who have been following the Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola administration in Lagos state says he would not allow anyone stampede him into changing his decision.However, there are those who believe that the motor park leaders will also resist every effort to stop them from getting the largese they make from public transport operators.

ayobase: My question is what are the said ''thugs'' gonna be doing when they are wiped off from the roads.
Is Fashola planning to take care of them, or chase them away to Ibadan?
Though, this is a good development for Lagos state. With NURTW, transportation is been made easier and more flexible. I gez we will recover from it with time, just like Abuja and motorcycles event.
I hope this BAN doesn't cause MAYHEM!
And if successful, Fashola will never be forgotten in the history of Lagos state!
