@MrNiloBrawn,
The system in both countries are similar, this is how it works in both countries: Study------>Post study visa ------>Permanent Residency.

Please go through this link to understand how the Canadian System work: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-postgrad.asp

I would have advised Canada since you will be going for Masters degree, therefore moving ahead. Coming to Australia means starting all over again.

However, it may be easier for you to get a visa to Australia than Canada.

Australia is aggressively sucking migrants in, more than 190,000 migration places planned for 2014-15 alone: http://www.immi.gov.au/media/fact-sheets/20planning.htm

While Canada has a cap of 25,000 places within the same period: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.asp

In the end it is all about numbers, Australia has 8X more spaces than Canada

Based on the stats above, I believe you have a better chance of getting PR in Australia.

hi guys,
Do you think I stand a chance of getting a positive assessment if i send my HND + PGD certificates(civil engineering) for assessment? For those submitting their application now, when are they likely to be invited to apply for visa? Can it be within 1 year?

Majority of the Universities waive it for Nigerians. So you won't even need it in most cases.

If you submit your EOI, with a good points score (good points score here is relative...dependent on your occupation), you can get an invitation at the next available invitation round.

Is 70 a good score? what will the assessing body equate my HND+pgd to? Australian Diploma?
Re: General Australian Visa Enquiries by Nobody: 8:09pm On Jul 31, 2014
70 is a good score for engineering occupations. I really can't say what engineers australia will equate your qualifications too.

What is your nominated occupation?

It's a good thing to have choices. One can register for both simultaneously, and the way TOEFL is structured might suit some people more.

You will need your qualifications equated to a Bachelor's. I think Manmeta assessed with Engineers Aus...he should be able to advise you better. I'm more of VETASSESS.

I will advise you to go for Msc in Canada. You stand a better chance of getting your PR over there after your postgraduate visa. Postgraduate visa is not applicable to any programme less than 2yrs at least at undergraduate level in Australia.

You are right! It is equivalent to Australian Advanced Diploma, which will earn you 10points for the purpose of migration. You will still get positive assessment provided that your nominated occupation on the SOL list minimum requirement is Advanced Diploma, otherwise, you will get negative assessment.

The requirement is even a Bachelor's or higher, so it's a negative result already. Try looking gor another occupation your work exp fits into, that requires an Advanced Diploma....altbough it is just 10pts as said above.

Perhaps, they are referring to sponsorship letters from people who already has some sort of award/funding from an external body. I believe you should be able to skip that part.

Ask your questions, people are generally nice on this thread.
