The thyroid produces a hormone we consider a "master hormone." It is involved in several aspects of maintaining the body. Hypothyroid, i.e. low thyroid hormone, is easily treated by supplementation. Don't worrysmiley

The first one was a twin gestation that the doctors called a missed abortion at 8wk 6d,this was in august last year, the other two were also missed abortions at 5wk and the last one which was in june this year was 8wk.all this were evacuated.
Had a termination in jan last year when i wasn't sure i wanted kids,but After that experince i was kindda scared and decided with my boyfriend who is my fiancee now to have kids and all these started.

I have a few questions. What meds are you taking now? When is the pain, before your period or during you period? How old are you?
For now I am not on any meds.  I took clomid and vitamin E on the 5th day of my period, the pain comes during my period. I am 37.

Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by Shibrino(f): 10:07am On Jul 24, 2008

I took Trivid and Diflucan for bacteria and yeast infection in May. This month I have taken Diflucan again as my doctor prescribed after a lab test that still read yeast infection.  Could these delay my period.  It came on the 22nd of May, then 24 of June and I am yet to see it this month.  I am worried about this.  Please help.

@enflamme
I think you should ask your doctor for pain meds. I also think that you should be on iron supplementation. I would not move up your surgery because counterintuitively, removing only the fibroids is more difficult and involves more blood loss that removing the whole uterus. I think it is advisable to build up your own blood stores as much as possible to decrease the need for transfusion. I don't believe in the diagnosis of your doctor. All your losses are in the first trimester when the embryo does not really need a lot from you. The most common cause of first trimester miscarriages are chromosomal abnormalities. How big did he say the fibroids are?
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 4:16am On Jul 26, 2008
@shibrino
I don't think the meds are responsible for your pain because you are taking them after your menses starts. Diflucan doesn't affect when your period starts but stress does. You seem very worried about this. The difference in length of your period is still within normal limits and shouldn't have any bearing on your ability to have a child. Relax my friend and get an ovulation kit. Good lucksmiley

@ gamine
Not curable and can be deadly to newborns. If a woman has a lesion in or near her vagina, she has to deliver via c/section
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by Enflamme: 10:49pm On Jul 27, 2008
In jan,scan said there was a fundo-anterior intramural fibroid measuring 36mm/37mm, anterior and posterior lower uterine segment intramurals fibroid measuring 14mm/14mm and 35mm /38mm.
In feb,the scan said there a mass attached to the uterine fundus measuring 70.6x56.7mm another image is seen posterior to the cervix measuring about 41.0x39.3mm,don't know what the size is now though i know it was larger after the last pregnancy in the early part of this month,still bleeding though and the doctor has me on primolut n two tablets three times a day.
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 6:15am On Jul 28, 2008
@ enflamme
I am not quite sure what your doctor is trying to acheive by giving you the primolut but I do agree with his plan for surgery. It is highly unlikely that you bleeding is the result of a thickened endometrium since you recently had a D&C. I would still highly recommend iron supplementation.

hellllo Dr. Kathy

i was @ home dat faithful day after i went for antenatal 2days before, the doctor did not run a scan on me that day.

he justed checked my BP, and blood level and said i was ok.

in the evening 2 days after i was felling heavy under my abdomen, dat night i could'nt sleep, so i rushed down to the hospital, went for scan and the sonographer said nothing was wrong only the placenta, so i took the result to the doctor and he gave me some tab. but i insisted for him to check me and give me injection cos i was in much pain but he didn't and i was felling pain every 5 mins.

You are doing a wonderful work doctor. God bless you so much.
Am 24yrs. I had a case of blighted Ovum late last year which was finally evacuated. I learnt that the likely causes of a blighted ova maybe due to chromosomal problems although my doctor said it's likely to be hormonal imbalance. Doctor is there some treatment for this chromosomes to prevent future reoccurence?
My husbd is kinda getting really worried cause i ve had previous miscarriages and ve not been able to concieve since d last mis.
Am really TTC but my fear is that i don't just want to get preg. but to stay PG.

My ques here are:
1.What are the causes of a blighted ovum
2.How can it be prevented.
3.Am TTC, what nutritioinal supplements do you suggest i take?

Thank u doctor. Am hanging on for your precious reply. God bless.

Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 8:45pm On Aug 02, 2008
@zequisha
Thanks for all your good wishes. I am sorry for your heartbreak however there is nothing you could have done or can do to avoid a blighted ovum. We assume a blighted ovum occurs when an abnormal egg is fertilized. There was never any "baby" so to speak. I would recommend that before you think of having another baby, you take folic acid and omega acid supplementation. This will not prevent another blighted ovum but is helps prevent neural tube defects. Best of wishes and good luck
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 8:46pm On Aug 02, 2008
@ gentleone
It might continue itching for a full year. I would suggest you wait at least 3 months before trying again. However, full disclosure, there are higher risks of the incision being disrupted with potential loss of the pregnancy if you wait less than a full year. That being said, it is still a very low risk.

If I may chip in, @ a.A.K.

You probably have Chronic Prostatitis - A condition characterized by a low-grade pain and irritation in the exact area you have described, and caused by a long-standing bacterial infection of the urinary tract.

However, I may be wrong.

I see you have used antibiotics. Were they prescribed by a doctor who heard you out fully and then assessed you properly?

Your best bet is to see a Urologist who specialises with the "water-works" part of the male anatomy. Your regular GP can refer you to one.

If not a specialist, then get your GP to take a more thorough repraisal of your complaint.

Goodluck, mate.

@kathyekiti. Hi, doc.

I left you a message on me thread, pleeeaase. . .
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by Nobody: 9:03am On Aug 04, 2008
Hi doc

So sorry abt the 419 mails but your efforts are appreciated

Well i'm in my early thirties
have history of dysmenorrhea
never had an abortion, never had STI or STD, never had any urinary or reproductive tract infection
regular periods, i just dont bleed as much as when i was a teen and the days are shorter

i get spasms every now and then but i suspect it may be related to ulcer

I'm just concerned with all these different issues women have with fertility and I want to check myself out first to make sure there is nothing i need to treat
Where would you suggest I start
