@9nja and everyone in the house with infertility problems,i will introduce you to a lab man who i did a swab test with and the result was staph and later candida,i have been fighting with a lot of vaginal infections but finally came out of it, finally so i know he can help
his name is James, just email me and u can be sent there and your problem solved

candida does not have any role in infertility. Staph is only significant if it is found in cultures in a patient with PID. However, it is rarely the instigating infection

Thanks for the kudos. It is important for your wife's hormonal levels to be tested in order to ensure that she is ovulating

Dr. Kathy,

Thanks expeting ur urgent reply.
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 1:30am On Aug 16, 2008
@ princess k
PID means pelvic inflammatory disease. The most common cause is what we call ascending infections caused by oxygen loving bacteria such as gonorrhea or chlamydia. Gonorrhea is normally symptomatic, chlamydia is not. Candida does not ascend i.e. it only causes infection in the vagina. Candida is "weak" and aside from the vaginal infection, will not cause widespread infection in a person with normal immune system

@osazeet
I don't see any reason why not. Good lucksmiley
@brownbaby
Yes!! I think you need an ultrasound now in order to determine that the embryo is in the uterus

hi phat girl,
just as kathyekiti says,your inlaw has low sperm count and need to see a fertility specialist.there are quite a number of them here in nigeria,though it is quite expensive so they have to be financially prepared. they can be found at bridge clinic cant remember venue,nordica clinic at ikoyi,hope valley at victoria island.contact me if you need more info so i can give you details.cheers wink

hi kathyekiti,
its wonderful for coming on board this forum.im also a doc with interest in o$g and have discoverd that a lot of people need help but dont know where to turn to.its really nice that you decided to give back in your own little way.its really amazing that the rate of infertility is on the rise in nigeria especially male fertility and especially in a society who condemns the women for not being able to have children.most of the cases i've seen this year are mainly due to the male factor and its like trying to move a mountain trying to get these men to come to the hospital.God help us.thanks for being there wink

@ Doc,
sorry I just discovered in my wife’s prescription that it is pelvic scan she’s to go for and not hormonal test, pls my question is what will be the relevance of the pelvic scan after HSG and while not hormonal test directly?
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by Fummiee(f): 10:12pm On Aug 20, 2008
@deardoc,
really since his count is 17millon, really its nt so bad. But is the 17millon per mill or its his total count. Cz he cld av realeased 4.5 mill or 2mill , Which means u'll av 2 divide the 17million by the mill he released. And how heavy or light is the staph. But better still i'll advice he request 2 see a gyneacologist in d hospital he uses. The wife 'll also av 2 go 4 series of tests as well such as hsg 2 knw if hr tubes are patent, homonal profile, scan etc. If she has no problem, then she cld be prepared 4 her next cycle. Cuz truly all she needs is just one sperm fertilise her matured egg. Less i 4gt, what % is his sperm motility? The reason 4 giving u all these tips is basically b'cz nodica n bridge hospitals are very expensive and moreso they cld be talking of insemnation or ivf, which are terribly xpensive.

But above all God is the answer through christ Jesus. All the best.

Hi katheyikiti, please what are the do's&dont's of getting pregnant (for the 1st time) at 40+ and also the steps to take to have healthy children, thx for ur response
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 2:45am On Aug 22, 2008
@ osazeet
The ultrasound may show fibroids that are not affecting the uterine cavity or show ovarian cysts which the hsg will not show

@ fummiee
Yes it only takes one sperm but the female genital tract is a hostile place for sperm so one needs as many as possible

@princess K
You are welcome

Just understand that fertility decreases with age. I would only try "natural" for 6 months before going to a specialist. Understand that the risk of chromosomal abnormalities i.e. genetic malformations increases with age as well as complications during the pregnancy
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by mufasa(m): 2:22am On Aug 23, 2008
this is a million dollar discussion going on here, well i like the way the docs handle the questions, cos i'm a doc to but on NYSC for now with major interest in Obgyn and public health,

will be poppin in every now and then to flow too as needed,

You must be an angel. Who else would offer medical advice and opinion gratis. I would really like to meet you.
Well, I have a BIG problem. My fiancee just got diagnosed for herpes. His doctor said it's not so bad for us but I'm afraid on its implications in terms of pregnancy. We are not yet sexually active so I'm still in the clear. I would really love to marry him but for my fears. Ps advice on the implications.

I'm a med student, its revealing to see so many cases on the O& G section here, i wonder if its a signal on what to specialize in. Anyway, on the 17million sperm count and staphylococcus aureus present in sample, its really not indicative of an infection, it could have been a contamination when the sample was being collected, because Staph. is a normal commensal on everybody, i.e if i scrape your skin, plenty staph. dey there, BeSIDES there are many things associated with infertility, the couple must be residing togehter & having unprotected intercourse, very important, then do you have a vaginal penetration, v important, a case we joke over, this couple were so naive, it was an anal penetration, anoda were using condoms and they expected to get preg!!!, anyway, no doc will test you till after a year, also ur hubby has to be around always, if he's in abuja u in lagos and you oonly meet at weekends, ther's a problem there, anyway, for more info, send a mail gmyguy@yahoo.com, facebook Adebayo George Olugbenga

Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 6:00am On Aug 27, 2008
@teetee2
There is nothing to "boost" your fertility. If you are having monthly periods, I will assume that you are ovulating. If your periods are not regular, there are medications to cause ovulation. Chart your period in order to determine your ovulation date. If you have sex around your ovulation date for 6 months and you do not conceive, I would suggest you go to a specialist.
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 6:04am On Aug 27, 2008
@heads
Sorry to hear about your fiance but there is hope. I would suggest that your fiance go on daily suppression therapy. This will decrease the chance of him infecting you. I would also suggest that he get tested for all the other sexually transmitted infections before you have sex with him. The medications decrease the chance of transmission but do not eliminate it completely. If you do get infected, you will be started on suppression therapy when you hit 36weeks. This is to prevent an outbreak. If you get an outbreak, you will have to deliver by cesarean to prevent transmission to the baby. Good luck

Good day Dr.

I have one question to ask, is it possible for someone who gave birth, but due to illness, she could not breast feed the child, now she is OK, and the child is 9months old, she is insisting that she want to breastfeed her child.

Is it possible?

dear dr.kathyekiti
could you please tell me if reglan is safe in pregnancy it was prescribed by my dr for persistent nausea and vomiting but i want to really be sure it's safe before taking it.

Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 12:48am On Aug 28, 2008
@mamaa
Yes it is possible. However, it is more difficult and necessitates continuous nipple stimulation
@Largie
Go ahead. Reglan is completely safe

@gsawlah
It is common for there to be changes in the length of one's period.  11 days is abnormally long while five is normal.  You just finally regulated

@ mamaa
It's really self explanatory.  Stimulate the nipples and you can cause a woman to lactate.  You can surf the net for more info
