Medical Rehabilitation is otherwise known as PHYSIOTHERAPY.. Rings a bell now??.. The only reason OAU calls it medical rehabilitation is because in your final year you have the option of choosing to specialize either in 'Clinical physiotherapy' and one other branch( forgive my forgetfulness). So.. Are you ready to become a physiotherapist??.. If not you might not be fulfilled if you continue thinking at the back of your mind that you are inferior to doctors or Dentists.. I hope I answered your question well.. Cheers!!! |

afol4dam: Please...u guys should throw more light on stuff like posting....what does it entails........what is junior posting? During your clinical years, all of you will be divided into groups, each group will do a particular posting. A posting is just the subject a particular group is learning at that time. In unilorin, we are usually divided into six groups, so this is how it goes: In 400L after our introductory pathology and pharmacology exams, we go for our junior medical and surgical postings (M1 and S1). Groups 1,2,3 will do M1 while groups 4,5,6 will do S1 for the first 8 weeks, then they swap for another 8weeks.... In 500L, we do intermediate surgery, intro. Paediatrics and intro OnG (S2, P1 and O&G1). Now, if u understand, u will kno that group 1,2 will do S2, 3,4 will do P1 and 5,6 will do O&G1 for 8weeks, then swap and rotate until all groups finish their postings simultaneously!!! It's the same in 600L too |

afol4dam: Please...u guys should throw more light on stuff like posting....what does it entails........what is junior posting? Hey Afol4dam, take it one step at a time.. I have seen some questions you have been asking.. They are not useful for you at this point in time.. Rather ask on tips of how to scale through First year science and anat, physio and bch in the 2nd year.. So when you are through with MB you can now tackle posting then.. Ok??.. Bless you.. |
Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Nobody: 11:59pm On Sep 25, 2012 |
Shakidor: I will be glad to enlighten ya.. Physiotherapy is a branch of physical medicine that deals with muscle and skeletal problems.. You are trained on how to deal with people that are recovering from accidents on their skeletons.. You rehabilitate them and help with the healing process.. Physiotherapy also deals with muscular diseases such as muscular spasms and rheumatism, arthritis.. E.t.c.. By the way Physiotherapy is a 5_years course in Nigeria. Hope that was enlightening enough?? |

Shakidor: Two times?? Well- you're okay with your decisions. Provided its what you want. Getting into med school is a very competitive procedure - I just hope when you apply the odds will be in ur favour. For the physiotherapy stuff- you have Google with you. |

Hey oluafolabi, thanx 4 answering those questions, especially about physiotherapy... I just want to add that the physiotherapists and the orthopedic surgeons are twins.... They can't do without each other.... For example, if a man had a fractured tibia (the large leg bone, biology things!!!) The orthopedic surgeon may apply an external fixator or just an ordinary plaster of paris (POP)m when the bone heals, the physiotherapist helps the patient to make use of that broken limb as quickly as possible by some maneuvres, massages, etc... Physiotherapists are also used in stroke patients, patients with parkinson's disease, etc... So, being a physiotherapist is no big deal anyway!!!!! |
Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Shakidor: 5:38pm On Sep 26, 2012 |
It is now becoming interesting oooo, dat mean a physiotherapy can diagonise and treat a patient itself? Now getting clearer |

Shakidor: It is now becoming interesting oooo, dat mean a physiotherapy can diagonise and treat a patient itself? Now getting clearer NOOOOO OOOOOOO!!!!! Only doctors and dentists can diagnose and treat disease ooooo!!! Physiotherapists act on doctor's instructions, just like nurses. But physiotherapists are more specialized than nurses, and more highly skilled and trained, so they are not nurses.... They even have their departments, etc... Modified today 28/11/2016: physiotherapists do not act on doctor's instructions. They have their way of making a patient regain health..... Just like the doctors of osteopathy (DO) in the USA 1 Like 1 Share |

Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Nobody: 5:20am On Sep 27, 2012 |
Lagusta:i have always have issues with comparing one profession to the other. They all have their different department and are specialist in their various fields. I believe and i have learnt that the same way we have specialist in medicine so also in nursing and in physiotherapy. I do not know what you mean by nurses not being highly skilled: as in skilled in physio or medicine. You want them practising medicine or physio to show they are skilled. Let me say this, if they are not skilled they wouldn't be given charge of the ward for 24 hrs and to call us if things start getting weird. In US, most of them are even usurping the functions of family doctors , anaesthesiologist etc. @ Olu,better go for medicine if you dont want somebody looking over your shoulder while you work. Medicine is not fulfilling for everybody, so if you feel you won't be fulfilled as a doctor then take up physio to doctorate level and lecture. |
